I’ve taken the liberty of making us a shiny new thread!

@HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule

Xmas Grin

I once said ‘Love you’ to the estate agent as she was leaving my home. She said it was a lot nicer to hear than the things some people said to her!

Thank you, I hope they will flower for a good long while! Is there anything I can do encourage that?

Oh God, that reminds me of when I got confused and sent a WhatsApp to a colleague, thinking it was going to DD2. I signed it off using her pet name and telling her I loved her very much.

Aaaarrrgghhh Blush

“ Once the bulbs are planted, it will take about three or four weeks for the flowers to bloom. With attention, they can remain in a healthy state for another two weeks. This type of longevity will require specific care, Longfield Gardens says.

First, keep them in the path of direct sun even if you have to move the container from windowsill to windowsill during the day. Rotate the container every few days so the stems remain upright (as opposed to arching in the direction of the sun). Maintain an indoor temperature as close to 65 degrees Fahrenheit as possible and water when the moisture is depleted.

“Force” your imagination – fittingly – to contend with any drooping stems. You can rescue such stems with anything from dental floss to your own miniature trellis made out of real twigs and branches. Next time, you may wish to plant paperwhite flower bulbs in a tall vase so that they have a stronger means of support.

Snow1n · 17/12/2021 15:41

Thank you @PooterLoop - they are nearly all adorned with bows now as I never got round to buying alcohol so theyre all rather leggy!!

I'll join in and add our tree to the beauties shown on here. Ours is 4.5ft as it stands on our coffee table.

Our children might not be going back to school now so Im swaying between feeling excited that the holidays may have began and absolute dread that I am not ready! I started a bit of a declutter today and ended up removing the sofa covers to wash (they dont both fit in at the same time so on the proper wash for them it takes 6 hours to wash and probably 2 days to dry 🙄) so I only got half the decluttering done. Our recycling bin is already half full even with one of the kids having jumped in it so it'll be overflowing by the time its emptied again after Christmas! 🤦‍♀️
I feel very unorganised!

I made it out of Sainsbury's alive ! £257 lighter mind you but alive . And I have located some real mistletoe so shall be hanging pieces all overGrin

Spending this evening tidying DS2's room for his return home tomorrow and then making his birthday cake , plus cheese straws and mince pies whilst there's space in the oven . Two more days to get stuff done then 4 at work .

PooterLoop · 17/12/2021 20:00

I think true poncing is not putting tree and decs up too early. I bowed to pressure and did our tree on Monday and today we put some outside lights up - I imagine outdoor lights are too gaudy - in my defence I have two small children who adore Christmas lights.

My SIL was shocked that we don't do elf on a shelf. My inner ponce clutched her pearls very tightly when she mentioned it.

PooterLoop · 17/12/2021 20:03

@Snow1n mine are so leggy, they're drooping all over the place. I've put bamboo canes in to support them but they keep on getting free.

They were leaning over my advent candle earlier in the week and slowly burning. I was haunted by the smell of roast beef crisps for ages until I realised to my horror what it was!

eitak22 · 18/12/2021 08:08

Finally finished the handmade cross stitch cards for my Dmil and Dgmil. Hoping they like them.... so annoyed as one of the threads ran (Dmc apparently!).

SayAaa · 18/12/2021 09:30

@Trumpton

I made a wreath of two halves today that breaks apart when the gate is opened. I had a plan and it worked !
Not only is this beautiful, the two halves approach is also sheer genius. Well done!

Been baking like a demon today - DS1 and I have been up to our elbows in flour and sugar since 10am ! Made these meringue crowns , all 12 of them , only for DD2 plus assorted friends to discover them , plus DH and DS2 , and now there are 4 Grin

I was awake by 5am so started cooking at 6am. I made bubble and squeak for 10 and did the pigs in blankets. All in freezer now.
Also managed a festive coffee out with stollen.
This afternoon we have been out out to a pop up pizza and sang carols and danced and watched a mummers play.
Chippy tea after I help mil to bed.

StormyCornishSeas · 18/12/2021 19:40

Filtered and had first drink of the marmalade gin today. It's very yummy.

Started on the main wreath using foliage from the garden as well.

CrazyBaubles · 18/12/2021 21:25

Checking back in although my poncing mojo has been disappearing quickly over the last few weeks.
I was on the last thread when I was doing more but can't remember what I posted so I'm going to put all my poncing here (crocheting and sewing).

I'm very jealous of the posters that can bake and particularly of the wreath that splits in half. So much talent!

This year we've gone back to a real tree but have opted for small-ish (5ft) potted ones (1 inside, 1 outside) Xmas Smile

More pics - the wreath is a cushion made for my auntie and the snowflakes are a garland I made for myself but was stolen by my 3yo niece "because it's like Olaf and Frozen and I neeeeeed it in my bedroom" Xmas Grin

@CrazyBaubles
I love your cross stitch. I used to do it years ago but it’s the sort of fine work that I can’t do now. Althoni might try again with decent lighting.

Trumpton · 18/12/2021 21:28

Although I might try again….

CrazyBaubles · 18/12/2021 22:02

@Trumpton Ive been cross stitching for just under 2 years and I find it hard because my eyesight is a bit rubbish - lighting makes all the difference!

I finished this amazing piece earlier this year (it was meant to be done for Christmas 2020 but was completed in May this year Xmas Blush ). I'm ridiculously proud of it.
Definitely try a small one to get back in to it if you can.

Can I ask (and sorry if I've got this completely wrong) - is it you that has a room that gets redecorated every year for Christmas? I love the idea of it but not a chance my DH would go for it!

@CrazyBaubles I’m loving the show and tell. I love the Christmoose especially Xmas Grin

OnTheHillNotOverIt · 18/12/2021 22:10

@CrazyBaubles that scene obviously trumps the moose but I cross posted.

Trumpton · 19/12/2021 07:57

@CrazyBaubles
It is me indeed who has a different theme for the sunroom each year. This year it’s Gnome Sweet Gnome.
Poncing in there has been a bit curtailed this year as we had to have the ceiling ripped down but it’s come together.
@TheWoollybacksWife sent me this amazing teacosy!

CrazyBaubles · 19/12/2021 09:32

Thank you OnTheHill I love the big Christmas scene but I found it difficult to make so right now I prefer the cards as they were quick and straightforward!

@Trumpton ah it is you! Your sun room looks amazing and your tea cosy from Woolly fits in perfectly!

I don't think there will be any poncing from me today as I will be out from 10 until around 8pm but I'm thinking I may have to start some sort of crafting after work tomorrow... Xmas Smile

Trumpton · 19/12/2021 15:17

Finished two drawstring gift bags and wrapped GH presents.
I like the flamboyant gift bags for DDs and the understated Japanese wrapping for DH.

Trumpton · 19/12/2021 15:18

Doh! Forgot photo !

My paper whites are doing nothing sadly. Very jealous of everyone else's though! I have made a wreath today, finally finished knitting DPs Santa hat and made the cranberry sauce. Just about to start on a ginger cake and icing the main cake which should be fun!

StormyCornishSeas · 19/12/2021 17:42

My DM and I made this wreath today from the foliage in the garden.

Tomorrow it's marzipan the cake and do festive flower arrangements

Poncetastic the second 2021
OnTheHillNotOverIt · 19/12/2021 20:01

Ok please talk me through decorating the cake or more specifically storing it afterwards. Do you put it back in the tin? Leave it out? Cling film it?
I’m sure Delia or Mary would tell me if I search but I know you’ll know here Xmas Smile
