Glad your cake is a success Firework. Thanks m nervous about mine as have new oven.
Trumpton spritzing is a good plan. The lights are battery operated -md suitable for outdoors so should be good.

Carriemac · 13/12/2021 19:25

@Trumpton that wreath is genius!

Row1n · 13/12/2021 19:32

My paperwhites have started drooping so I've tied them up for now. We dont drink so I'll have to see about buying in some alcohol specifically for them, dh will really think Ive gone batty!

I think I'm nearly ready but I really don't feel it at all, and my christmassy feelings have waned slightly. Hopefully they'll return nearer to the big day. Reading all your posts is stopping me from losing the christmas plot completely

The tree is up and decorated.
I feel proper Christmassy now as I was in to carol recitals with choir yesterday. Something which I missed more than I thought I would last year

Row1n · 14/12/2021 14:00

Made this with the base and decs from a wreath I bought last year. I'm not sure how I feel about it but it's up now so it's staying regardless (unless we have a wind storm and it gets blown away)

Starting to feel a bit Christmassy again, little by little! @StormyCornishSeas I may need to up my carol listening to help me along, thank you for the idea!

Your wreath looks lovely @Row1n especially with the festive red door.

It made me feel Betsy festive especially with the mulled wine which was smuggled

Row1n · 14/12/2021 18:50

Thank you @StormyCornishSeas!

Paperwhites in and blooming.
Planning to make Baileys tomorrow.
Bread sauce is made and sampled…bread sauce sandwich anyone?
Had a hell of a day with mil so popped her into bed early then she got up and fell!
So been over and patched her up and given her clean night clothes. She has promised to stay in bed!
Ooof

Our wreath is dying now but it was fun to make at the time. Now prepping stuff for Winter Solstice. Burning a Yule log in fire pit along with various herbs and incense to celebrate the turning of the year.

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 16/12/2021 19:37

Popping back in after days and days away (or at least it feels that way)!

My paperwhites grew so much! They’re too tall for the bowl, sadly (which I was half expecting - i just didn’t want to buy a vase or lantern that would suit better but l’m going to keep an eye out in preparation for next year), so I’ve also had to tie them up. I’m planning to dress them up a bit tomorrow and then if it’s nice enough I’ll post a photo.😄

My tree is done, and I’m very excited to finally have a real tree again! 😊

We went for a manageable size this time so we could get it home easily (somewhere between 5 & 6 feet I think) but next year I’m planning to have it delivered instead so it will be much, much bigger.

I will read back now - it looks like lots of beautiful photos have been posted!🥰

Our tree is an 8 foot but sil has a truck so he picks it up. It’s an eight person committee to chose the tree each year!
But it’s a beauty this year!

Shame it’s on its side! Xmas Grin

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 16/12/2021 20:01

Heh! Gorgeous tree.

Next years will be at least 8 foot, possibly a bit more if I decide I want to go totally OTT. 😄

PooterLoop · 17/12/2021 08:00

@Row1n I love the bows on your Paperwhites.

Carriemac · 17/12/2021 08:30

Heresy mine - 9 foot

What beautiful trees ! I'm so jealous .

I've currently got five days off so am running round like a loon trying to collect presents ( why is it that click and collect has to be in 3 different towns ? ) But am also on a completely fruitless hunt for mistletoe ! Not so much as a sprig have I seen anywhere .

Lots to do today . Cranberry sauce to be made , and doing an inventory of my Christmas pantry stash before braving Sainsbury's again .

Trumpton · 17/12/2021 10:15

I gave up on real mistletoe and bought a tin sprig

Not sure I might be allowed back on here if I admit I haven't put the Christmas tree up yet??? Our main tree is quite big, and in 3 sectiond and due to a comedy of errors the tree is still in the garage. I desperately wanted to spray it with white flocking but the spray took forever to arrive (only arrived yesterday).

I'm off down to Norwich later to take DD out for dinner, and stating over to do the Christmas market before bringing her back tomorrow night. Then we have a big family party on Sunday. Seeing friends on Monday. Busy. Busy.

Would it be acceptable to just quickly decorate our much smaller (but already flocked) Christmas tree? I promise to use all our best glass baubles and some stupidly poncey ribbon. In mitigation we've had a huge wreath on the front door, and heavy garlands on the mantlepiece and twined around the bannister since Dec. 1st.

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 17/12/2021 11:03

Poncing is not determined by how early you put the tree up IMO...Traditionally it would have been done even later, anyway, so you’re just doing things the heritage way, which surely ups your poncing quotient!

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 17/12/2021 11:03

And yes, definitely go ahead and use the smaller tree!🎄🎄🎄

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 17/12/2021 12:23

My poncing effort for today!

peaceanddove · 17/12/2021 12:23

Oh bless you both! I had completely forgotten that the true ponce would decorate the tree considerably later than hoi polloi [breathes sigh of relief].

Trumpton · 17/12/2021 12:24

@HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule
So beautiful xx

Trumpton · 17/12/2021 12:25

Oops got carried away and sent kisses

Xmas Grin

I once said ‘Love you’ to the estate agent as she was leaving my home. She said it was a lot nicer to hear than the things some people said to her!

Thank you, I hope they will flower for a good long while! Is there anything I can do encourage that?
