@HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule
They look perfect!
I also have tin envy !

DanceWithYourBalloon · 07/12/2021 10:44

I've fallen off the poncing wagon. Been decorating and having our bathroom re-done.
Today is tree day and I'm hoping to make some more mince pies and some sausage rolls to freeze.

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 07/12/2021 12:34

@Trumpton thank you! I love them, DH got them for me. Xmas Smile

I’ve noticed a couple of flower buds that look like they might open soon, is now the time to add the gin or should I hold off a bit?

PooterLoop · 07/12/2021 14:12

@HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule
They look great! I would do the gin early - mine have gone very leggy Blush

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 07/12/2021 14:19

Ok @PooterLoop, what do you do, tip out the water and replace with Gin? TIA!

PooterLoop · 07/12/2021 14:22

I did my wreath over the weekend, while watching Pride & Prejudice Grin(in a rare child free day).

I've done the christmas cake and feeding it brandy at regular intervals.

I did mincemeat a while ago and is waiting for me to must energy to make some pies.

I can't seem to post any photos disappointingly.

PooterLoop · 07/12/2021 14:24

@HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule
I did it when water was very low - put a tiddle of gin in a pyrex jug and then added water to ration of 1:7

PooterLoop · 07/12/2021 14:26

*ratio

I have found my spiritual home! I am now officially retired from the British Olympic Ponce Team, but still like to indulge my inner ponce at Christmas.

This year, for the first time, I have hung a large ball of fresh mistletoe from the hall lantern and have treated the front door to a new wreath made from slightly frosted eucalyptus leaves and berries. But still think it's missing something so am torn between adding either a dark grey velvet bow or a wine red one. Thoughts?

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 07/12/2021 14:45

@peaceanddove 🎄🎄🎄I would go for dark grey, sage green or white ribbon.

Red would look lovely too, mind.

I’m so sad we can’t have a wreath on the door as it’s just too windy here. I lived in flats for several years before we bought this house and I really was looking forward to having huge beautiful wreaths once again. I might still try nearer to Christmas and see if I can get away with it for at least a few days...

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 07/12/2021 14:46

@PooterLoop ah thanks. Hmmm, there’s still a fair bit of water in there...might wait a day...

Row1n · 07/12/2021 14:59

I believe you can take the water out with a syringe (nurofen/medicine one will do) and then add the alcohol water if you want to! I cant remember if @Trumpton mentioned that or I read it elsewhere.

I've done very little actual poncing but I have been getting more christmas ready.
You'll all be pleased to know I have bought a new, non glittery table runner! I still need a tree skirt though!

Thank you. I love the idea of a dark grey bow but just realised that as our front door is dark grey, you wouldn't see it. Think it might have to be wine red.

Such a shame you can't have a wreath on your door. Is there no way to secure it with something like heavy duty fishing line?

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 07/12/2021 16:44

Wine red will be beautiful too (one of my favourite colours)!

It’s very very windy here...I’ll still put one up on Christmas Eve in time for my girls to visit, I think; I’ll just have to cross my fingers - don’t want to use wire etc to reinforce it as it’s a very new door and I don’t want to scratch the paintwork.

TheWoollybacksWife · 07/12/2021 17:16

@HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule could you attach it with two lengths of wide ribbon - one at 12 o'clock and one at 6? The 12 o'clock one goes over your door and the 6 o'clock one goes down and through the letter box. Tie them on the inside of the door and your wreath should be firmly anchored. This assumes you've got a horizontal letterbox roughly in the centre of your door and you won't be too bothered if it's open a bit and draughty.

I need to get my act together and think about icing my cakes. They are only small but there are three to do.

I don't know if I posted a picture of my Fererro covers on the last thread but I have finished them and given them to my friend.

I'll finish the first of DD1's socks tonight and will hopefully have the other one done by the weekend although I've got another project that I want to complete first.

Yes take the water out as much as possible any time now and replace with alcohol 1/7 it will stop them getting leggy and floppy

Trumpton · 07/12/2021 18:01

I made drawstring bags from some Christmas fabric I had. They are for the DDs “stocking” fillers.
Very pretty.
DDs are both adults by the way and still love their silly but useful bits.

Trumpton · 07/12/2021 18:14

@TheWoollybacksWife
The chocolate covers are amazing Xmas Grin

Trumpton · 10/12/2021 06:30

Yesterday I made broccoli and Stilton soup and froze it. DH and I had some for lunch.
Not a lot of other poncing. The tree still has only lights on it so I must get the decorations on it today.
The builders were back working on the landing Velux window so we have had scaffolding on the landing. I was tempted to drape it in fairy lights but resisted the temptation. But did leave a battery candle on it during the night in case one of us forgot it was there in the dark!
Sunday I am going to a wreath workshop so have been gathering bits and bobs for that.

BeastOfBODMAS · 10/12/2021 15:16

@TheWoollybacksWife your Ferraro rocher cover is so cute!

I have nearly completed the wrapping today and scored a bit of a coup - my mum has agreed to a day of Christmas baking together. She is no cook and so will spend a day cuddling the baby and making politely interested noises whilst I take over her kitchen which is 6x the size of mine. Then we will both eat cake. Everybody wins.

I made a wreath of two halves today that breaks apart when the gate is opened. I had a plan and it worked !

That’s great @Trumpton. I’m just about to move my over the door Garland to the bannister. It’s a bit early to bring fresh foliage in but it’s not long enough for over the door and looks daft Xmas Confused

OnTheHillNotOverIt · 12/12/2021 16:08

Over door Garland looking lush on bannister but will be crispy by Boxing Day

Trumpton · 12/12/2021 17:16

You can spritz it with water to help keep it fresh with the lights off!

FireworkParrot · 12/12/2021 18:09

I fell off the thread but had a very festive weekend. I finished the wrapping yesterday so everything bought and wrapped. DH still has a bit of shopping to finish for his Dad and siblings but that's his problem!

We've also started eating the Christmas cake. It's been my first year making one and I'm pleasantly surprised with how well it turned out! I may have to make another one next year now....
