Best and worst Christmas films?

I love Home Alone (1 and 2) and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Not keen on the Polar Express although I want to love it. I think it's to do with the ticket blowing away and it being inevitable and it makes me twitchy.

Scrooged Trading Places Love, Actually

Glad to see someone else counts Trading Places as a Christmas Film which it totally is.

Worst: Love Actually

Die Hard IS a Christmas film - it contains all the genre tropes:

• saving Christmas
• reuniting a family
• Christmas music

Klaus is fantastic.

Not a film, but we always rewatch The Box of Delights.

Muppet Christmas Carol definitely the best

Can’t stand It’s a Wonderful Life

Best; any version of a Christmas Carol. There was a cheesy US TV one were the woman had to relive Christmas Day over and over. I liked that.

Worst. The utter bilge that is it’s a Wonderful Life.

Muppet Christmas carol is the best.

I watched something called Snowmance the other day and it was so bad that I shouted at the screen. Awful “nice guy” entitled male friend sabotaging woman’s relationship and sulking like a child that she didn’t notice him, then she somehow realised she’d been in love with him all along. INFURIATING. I, of course, looked up the writer and director. Both men, and I could probably have described their appearance without having seen photographs.

@Liverbird77 omg, forgot about The Christmas Card! I love that too. So cheesy and obvious but so so watchable. I’ve not seen it on Tv yet this year. I’ll have to look out for it.

@GivememyowlbackSandra . The Emma Thompson scene in Love Actually always makes me cry as I did find a gift my ex husband had bought for the other woman. Her birthday was straight after Christmas.

Worst:- Polar Express, The Grinch and the majority of those TV Christmas movies that my folks make me watch when they come to visit!

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, it’s a wonderful life, home alone, Elf, Santa clause, I love the cheesy hallmark channel films!!

I watched single all the way on Netflix though which had promise but it was DREADFUL. Admittedly I didn’t finish it so it could’ve got better

Having just seen a Boy Called Christmas that is now my favourite!

Mind you, my guilty pleasure is all those cheesy Hallmark ones.

I liked the original Nativity!, the sequels not so much.

A boy called Christmas is sky only atm. I don’t have sky, waiting for Netflix.

It looks magical.

Best: National Lampoons family christmas (so funny) and a Christmas Story is beautiful and so nostaglic (The one with Ralphie)
The animated Dr Seuss The Grinch is magical for children, I felt like a child watching it!

Worst: Gremlins terrified my children. The various scrooges are all so miserable and scary too.

I can verify a boy called Christmas IS magical! A cross between Harry Potter and Finnish Lapland. Loved it!

For all those saying the hate the Grinch, me too, awful film, but the newish Benedict Cumberbatch one is actually quite a nice film. Definitely easy watching for a Sunday afternoon.
