Best and worst Christmas films?

I love Home Alone (1 and 2) and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Not keen on the Polar Express although I want to love it. I think it's to do with the ticket blowing away and it being inevitable and it makes me twitchy.

What are yours?

I like the original grinch cartoon and we always watch some of the cbeebies pantomimes (the christmas carol is our favourite) even though the dc are far too old for cbeebies really.

The worst is Netflix Father Christmas is back.

Please tell me someone agrees with me. I can't find anyone who's seen it and has taken against it as well!

I also really dislike Arthur Christmas and the theory it portrays that there have been multiple Father Christmases over the years…I mean, I realise this is a far more realistic story, but it just doesn’t sit well with me!

Best - Muppets Christmas Carol

Worst (in a fair few categories) - Elf. I just don't get the Elf love.

Equal best:
It's A Wonderful Life and Love Actually.
Worst:
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

My worst is the Jim Carey grinch film which irritates me by being misogynistic in the narrative that the grinch is grinchy because of being turned down by a woman.

Best - Disney's A Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey and Colin Firth

Worst - The Holiday....and any of the American films except National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

Die Hard isn't a Christmas film. It's a film that happens at Christmas time...not the same thing!

But you could say that about lots of films that people consider Christmas movies.

Technically Home Alone is not a Christmas movie, it's a movie about a young boy who is left at home around Christmas time.

Technically Love Actually is not a Christmas movie, it's a movie about a network of relationships and friendships around Christmas time.

I will always see Die Hard as a Christmas movie, because I watch it at Christmas, and it also has the best Christmas movie quote - 'now I have a machine gun, ho ho ho'.

Klaus is a beautiful Christmas movie also.

I get why people enjoy 'Elf' but Buddy is awful, i don't like him.

I absolutely love Klaus! Muppet Christmas Carol is definitely the best. Agreed.
Worst is the Christmas Chronicles. I've tried to watch it about five times because every year someone recommends it to me and I just can't get into it.

I actually love this about Arthur Christmas. Its a more modern retelling of the father Christmas story, I think its far more likely that its all controlled by computers and elves making sure it all goes to plan! It is also one of very few films where nobody questions the existence of Father Christmas which I like for my younger kids.

My favourites are the first two Home Alone movies and The Snowman. It's not Christmas without those!

My least favourites are It's a Wonderful Life (too long and not a lot happens) and Elf - I like the general storyline for Elf but for me the food is off-putting. The spaghetti and syrup did it for me.

Love them all really, Christmas eve is a Christmas movie fest with as many as we can fit in but I do love Arthur Christmas

Just sat through A Castle for Christmas on Netflix - absolutely DIRE, no idea why I subjected myself to it! I think it was just gawping at Carey Ewels hideous Scottish accent ... terrible, all of it and so cheesy and yet I watched the whole thing! Christmas with The Coopers is quite good, love Elf, Home Alone, The Holiday

Best, I love Christmas films a would have a hard time choosing one. The worst by far Santa with Muscles.

I love lots of Christmas films, The Muppets Christmas Carol, Love Actually, The Holiday & Christmas With The Kranks being some of the best.

Deck The Halls is absolutely the worst.

Die Hard is most definitely not a Christmas film!!

Films I watch every year, Muppets Christmas Carol, Christmas with the Kranks, Jingle all the way, Four Christmases, Krampus, Scrooged, A Christmas Carol in different versions, Father Christmas. We normally throw in a classic, last year it was White Christmas. This year it will be a Wonderful life.

Although not Christmas movies, as such, one of the Bridget Jones films is usually in at some point. And I live those!

I love The Muppet Christmas Carol and The Holiday. From my childhood, I loved Yogi Bear’s First Christmas!

I hate the Polar Express because of the awful animation - they all look like corpses.

We went to see A Boy Called Christmas at the cinema last weekend and that was amazing.
