Has everyone who placed an order with the glitchy code either received items or a cancellation notice/refund?

OP posts:
Maharajah20 · 25/11/2021 00:05

Haven’t received anything yet. All the bits in my order were dispatched yesterday. 🤞I am hoping they arrive tomorrow. I ordered some YSL mascara gift sets and some YSL lipstick gift sets. 4 of each for myself, daughter, sister and niece. Chucked in 2 aftershave gift sets that were on my list as well. Didn’t dawn on me to go shopping for other stuff 🙄
Kicking myself for not throwing in some Hotel Chocolat!! But will be very happy if I received the bits I ordered.

Skippettydooo · 25/11/2021 00:11

Mine was delivered by DHL. I ordered at 6pm just before it was taken down. I spent £200, I wasn't very savvy and didn't realise how the code worked, I just knew to put ysl in basket and the code. It has helped with christmas gifts though. I had products in the box that I hadn't even ordered. It did all arrive in singular packaging which was embarrassing and 2 things were broken

Kandii1992 · 25/11/2021 01:53

I don't think it's morally wrong. As others have stated, if the company had a problem with it they could have cancelled the orders. They would rather retain their reputation, get people talking about their brand, sell loads of products (most of which they source very cheaply, so even with £20 discount they are still making profit), and potentially attract new returning customers. It won't do much damage to a company that earns £146million profit every year.

My heart goes out to the retailer and teams involved. Heads will be rolling and the gleeful, triumphant way people and allegedly 'loyal customers' have taken advantage 'because they can' will be doubly depressing for staff. Can't believe the number of people on here equating this to shared customer acquisition codes or pretending this is a victimless crime or the fact that their despatch warehouse didn't clock on quickly enough is some sort of tacit consent. They can't just brush off a loss making incident like this and I hope JL caught it in time. And yes, I worked in retail in a similar organisation and have seen it all, we routinely checked promo codes for unusual activity, scanned social media for glitch posts and worked through the nights preventing international hackers and scammers running automatic programmes looking for said glitches. It was shit and stressful but hey, as long as you get things you didn't pay for. Merry Christmas.

DockOTheBay · 25/11/2021 07:22

They didn't do their job very well then. I had items dispatched more then 24 hours after the glitch was fixed. They're very lucky that it wasn't picked up by Hot UK Deals or the stock of YSL would have been cleared in minutes.
There's not really much point in keeping coming on these threads and trying to make people feel bad. What will you achieve?

If that was in response to my post, it's my first and only comment. I was challenging some of the justifications and offering an alternative perspective. I wasn't trying to make people 'feel bad', if you shopped knowing full well this was an error and justify it because the retailer 'wasn't doing their job very well' or 'can afford it' how badly you feel about doing that depends entirely on your own moral compass.
VioletPetals · 25/11/2021 07:47

They did cancel some ordered.

I received this email.

JL - hopefully this won't be deleted !!
Billyandemily · 25/11/2021 07:52

Mine got cancelled once it had reached my local delivery office. Got same email as above. Still waiting for refund email.

Bishbashboshing · 25/11/2021 08:00

@VioletPetals I received that same email and my order was quite small. I only added 6 YSL items to my basket and nothing else.

GotToGoBye · 25/11/2021 08:00

Of course it’s morally wrong. JL are behaving well but that doesn’t mean you are.

If you feel bad, maybe that is your conscience.

TheMooch · 25/11/2021 08:06

If I get any YSL for Christmas I will know where it came from.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 25/11/2021 08:26

They did cancel orders, and part orders and some have only just been sent out. They recalled orders from couriers and click and collect. I’d say that they are happy to have sent out what they did because we’ve seen they could have stopped what they wanted to.
Most of mine was recalled from the courier, with no warning or email from JL. I had six things ordered and ironically it is the low value things I received (I received two items) rather than the more expensive Lego where the discount didn’t really make a dent in the price.

Fairyliz · 25/11/2021 08:27

For those posters who think it’s terrible to take advantage of this glitch; what do you think about the report from Which that says 90% of Black Friday details (including some from JL) were cheaper/same price in the previous six months?
Isn’t it all a big game? Retailers try and bamboozle us with ‘offers’, ‘special deals’, loyalty points and basically try and get our money and don’t care if we can’t afford it. How many posters have bought teenagers overpriced designer stuff?
Isn’t this just the other side of the same coin, customers trying to get stuff cheap?

Kendodd · 25/11/2021 08:34

I wonder how much of this JL loot is on Ebay already?

psuedocream3 · 25/11/2021 08:40

DPD is the only courier that lets you recall an order, so if you ordered for next day delivery, they would have sent it DPD and they can recall those. Anything via DHL or Royal Mail could not be recalled.

I had a cancelleation email after recall, I am waiting for the refund to come through, and they said they will be issuing a voucher as a good will gesture but that hasn't been received yet either,

Babybooboodedoo · 25/11/2021 08:54

Yup, it’s a scummy thing to take advantage of an obvious error, which will have caused a lot of stress and upset for the staff involved.

It was obviously an error and it’s plain wrong to take advantage. Especially when the company itself acts with a high level of integrity.

Porfre · 25/11/2021 08:58

This reminds of the thread where a poster asked whether they would pick up money that had fallen out of a truck.

Most posters stating of course they wouldn't pick it up and would return the money. How they've never taken a £5 that didnt belong to them. Looking shocked that anyone would do such a thing.

TheRealHousewife · 25/11/2021 09:27

I’ve had the opposite experience this week.

I received an order from Emma Bridgewater and on opening it discovered they had sent everything x2. My very first thought was to contact them to let them know a mistake had been made and arrange collection of the surplus. I didn’t for one minute consider keeping them. They weren’t mine and I hadn’t paid for them. As a thank you EB gave me a Gift Voucher of £30.00, although I didn’t expect that, it was appreciated.

I can’t believe the number of people who have blatantly abused JLs mistake and people actually posting they are disappointed they missed the opportunity. Where are peoples morals?

Yep. A retailer accidentally sent me a duplicate order this week and I let them know and they collected it. No thank you gesture though! I am now wondering how many people would have thought it fair game to keep it. Ultimately we all pay in higher prices and closed businesses. I was very disillusioned at customer behaviour when I worked for a high end retailer - people blatantly lying about missing parcels etc and sending back worn clothing. 🙁

I agree promtional marketing and discounting is really tiresome but I dont agree its the same. In fact there are laws and consequences for misleading pricing and false advertising - the Which report is saying dont believe the overall hype and misconception that prices will be lowest on BF. I dont know what to say to your claim that retailers make you buy stuff and dont care you cant afford it, surely thats like saying pubs shouldnt serve you alcohol if you have a drinking problem and its a restaurants fault if you are overweight 🤷🏻‍♀️
Imitatingdory · 25/11/2021 11:47

motherofgodhaudyerwheesht how is it any different to using a e.g. Vodafone code that isn’t yours? Some of those companies are small. Or a blue light discount when you aren’t entitled to a blue light card? Or the other glitches which have never provoked similar outrage on here before. Posters who do the above shouldn’t receive the discounts they do in the same way as glitches give discounts posters shouldn’t get.

Nearlyadoctor · 25/11/2021 11:50

I placed 2 orders early in the afternoon , not huge amounts both were standard delivery but dispatched on Monday via DPD. The only item I received was a bottle of Black Opium, all the others were dispatched individually and recalled. I’ve had no communication at all from JL but the money has been refunded to my JL card this morning.

I dont think it differs at all, essentially. Exploiting any discounts obviously unintended or not intended for you is basically dishonest.
Imitatingdory · 25/11/2021 13:28

motherofgodhaudyerwheesht If you acknowledge similar things are no different why did you post ”Can't believe the number of people on here equating this to shared customer acquisition codes”?

Daisy829 · 25/11/2021 13:46

@LDB1985 I’ve had a text to say my jo malone is being delivered tomorrow. Can’t believe it! That’s the last bits I’m waiting on. Pretty chuffed.
