Thread 2 - the one with the return of the buns

Reastie · 16/08/2021 18:53

@jumpingintosummer thanks for the inspiration for the thread title, I’m now singing ‘return of the buns’ to the tune of ‘return of the Mac’

Thought I’d do a ‘how to’ for a couple of things people often post about not being sure of

To do click links you do this put link in here then a space then the name or phrase you want to go with the link . Don’t put a space between the start of the link or the last word next to the like I have or it won’t work but I had to to demonstrate.

If you’re posting anything specifically for me please do @ me or I may not spot it. It’s helpful if when sharing bargain info you bold it to make it easy for people to differentiate between chat and bargain links.

To follow the thread without using up a post to mark place you can click on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first post.

No affiliate links please.

Referral thread here to use for if you’re posting your personal referral link to others.

Second message has a few links and info which I’ll slowly build up, let me know if there’s anything you’d like me to add to it Thanks

Thankyou for that link I've just ordered the Knex for ds
TakeMeToYourLiar · 22/08/2021 08:42
@TakeMeToYourLiar I am so intrigued by your rubber duck print hunt. I can't find any either, not even slightly bigger ones that could be trimmed down. But would buying some ducks and taking photos yourself be an option? I would drop my phone in the bath if I did them in the bath but you are likely less clumsy. Or some bubbles in the kichen sink or in a bucket outside so you can get close ups? Then get them developed A5 or just over and cut them down.
Unless they are important enough to commission an artist for?
As I say, I'm intrigued!
Honestly, I'm doing up the family bathroom and DS wants photos of rubber ducks in there. He already picked out the frames

Taking my own not a terrible idea. Just need to find some ducks that aren't part chewed like ours!

Morning all, has anyone seen any bargainous advent candles yet? (The ones that you light daily and let them burn down day by day)...I've just realised that last year I used up the final 99p one that I had stashed from JL sale.

FireflyGirl · 22/08/2021 08:58

There are some nice bits in the Aldi sale including:

Ride on ice cream van and ambulance £14.99, down from £24.99;

Lego build your own adventure, choice of Star Wars, Ninjago and Lego city £5.99, down from £7.99. These are about A4 size, and are £13-£15 on Amazon. Perfect present for 6+.

Delivery is £2.95 or free over £30.

@Thisisbatshit

DD has asked for a skateboard. She will be 8 (just). Does anyone have any tips. I haven't skateboarded since I was about 10 and lost both my front teeth (so DD will always wear a helmet!).

If anyone has any ideas about where to start I'd be grateful. I don't want ro spend a fortune as I suspect she won't do it often, but equally I don't want it to be so cheap it is hard to use which will put her off.

Thanks

We bought DS one for last Christmas from skate hut via Amazon. Think it was about £30, but think you can get cheaper. Must admit think it’s been a 5 minute wonder, he’s only been on it in the living room🙈
Someaddedsugar · 22/08/2021 09:03

There are some for £4 on the Christmas shop mentioned on another thread on the board (the one where the OP has ordered a catalogue) @Yeknom

Someaddedsugar · 22/08/2021 09:07

@TakeMeToYourLiar have you tried searching for some royalty free images on Unsplash that you could send to somewhere to get printed? Or print at home on photo paper? Unsplash is a site full of photography and it's free.

Or alternatively if it was illustrations a site like iStock or similar would have some that you could pay a nominal fee for? I'm sure it's about £24 for 3 credits.

Scout2016 · 22/08/2021 09:07

@TakeMeToYourLiar oh that's lovely. Are they old enough to be involved? Bit of blue food dye in the water to make it more exciting? I have a soft spot for rubber ducks, I gave FIL an Elvis rubber duck years ago that probably I should have kept for myself...

whoknows2 · 22/08/2021 09:07

Aldi has lovely wooden ride on toys for £14.99 - there's an ice cream truck and ambulance

Chocolateemergency · 22/08/2021 09:25

@TakeMeToYourLiar if there is a print on Etsy you like it might be worth messaging the seller and asking if they can do alternative sizes. I’m sure they’d be happy to make a sale

Chocolateemergency · 22/08/2021 09:29

Lots of Harry Potter toys on the Aldi website this morning

Yeknom · 22/08/2021 09:30

@Someaddedsugar oooh thank you! Found the thread and seen the candle - gorgeous, just what I'm looking for. They're awaiting stock so I've added myself to the stock checker thingy! :)

WeeFae · 22/08/2021 09:35

Just had an email from the Etsy soap seller saying that due to high demand, my soaps wont look the same but will still smell great :(

HoldingForGeneralHugs · 22/08/2021 09:43

Hello everyone im not sure if this has been said but I was just having a look at the Menkind sale and there were a few Harry Potter bits there might be worth a look 😊

Fubbs · 22/08/2021 09:46

@ShoppingBasket I'm in ROI too but Amazon has been fine, they deliver with all taxes paid. In fact, I've had a couple of teeny refunds a few months after delivery when the fees have been lower than what they've collected.

I find bigger companies generally have something in place now but Hotel Chocolat STILL doesn't. Even though it can be horribly expensive when they have their system in place. And checking every time if a company delivers duties paid is a complete pain.

Paddy and Scott coffee delivery is over £33, hoping to get it for my sister but postage is more than the coffee costs!!

Christmas21 · 22/08/2021 10:28

Thank you for the Urban Decay link. I got my niece an eye palate for £14.70 that was £49!

Thanks for Urban decay link 🙂

MrsCrimbo74 · 22/08/2021 12:38

Oh my goodness i can promise you I am not the Etsy seller, i do not own an etsy page, i am definitely not creative enough. I honestly just thought the reindeers were a bargain and it made me feel warm and fuzzy that it helped other people.

Namechangesagain · 22/08/2021 12:52

@MrsCrimbo74 I was only joking!

Etsy seller was probably wondering what was going on 😂😂

MrsLCSofLichfield · 22/08/2021 12:56

Cox & Cox catalogue arrived yesterday, and there are a couple of Christmas pages at the back! Star

Carrie76 · 22/08/2021 12:57

@jrek I’d be on for a roi bargain thread

I’m very glad you shared them, purchased lots of bits from the seller as wanted token gifts to add to biscuits/chocolate etc and they were perfect. Amazing price and will be used every year hopefully so environmentally friendly.
