Unexpected hit presents

What random presents have you given or received this yeah that have gone down really well? I got DH a beanie hat with an LED torch on the front for going into the loft as we don’t have a light up there, and he can never find his torch (and when he does it’s out of charge, and he ends up using the torch on his phone). It was super cheap and a bit of a last minute random thing, but he loves it! It’s really bright, and we’ve already both used it loads for going out into the garden to get things from the garage fridge. I especially love it as I used to hate going into the garage when it was dark and groping around for the light switch....

Anyone else got something similar?

Rod head massager from Amazon. Cheap, random, last minute gift. DH saw it advertised and said this must feel really nice. He LOVES it and uses it every day!

Atalune · 29/12/2020 09:06

DS got a very soft and fluffy dressing gown which He has not take off. He LOVES it so much, and it was only £20 from marks and Spencer’s.

Asj0405 · 29/12/2020 19:24

@fantasmasgoria1 our cat couldn't be less interested in the flippity fish either, I thought he would love it but nope not interested in the slightest!

I did do better with the kids though, chocolate fondue set and LED strip lights went down a storm with DD1. Throw throw burrito game is a massive hit with DD2 along with her hair glitter and DD3 loves her schleich horse riding centre and barbie closet, she has spent all day changing barbies outfits.

@EveningOverRooftops

A map of rude sounding places in U.K.

Had an absolute giggle chatting with US friends about it and sending pictures of the map

Bonar bridge and cockhaven were highlights. Typical men 🤣

Where did you get the map from? My brother would love that!
Imsayingnothing · 29/12/2020 22:14

@Asj0405 my youngest three could spend all day dressing, undressing and redressing Barbie's! Can I ask does the closet come with outfits or did you have to buy those separately?

Asj0405 · 30/12/2020 00:40

@Imsayingnothing Yes the closet came with several dresses, shoes and other accessories. It's the barbie dream closet and is a fortune usually but picked it up half price on amazon around black Friday.

Imsayingnothing · 30/12/2020 08:23

@Asj0405 thank you I will have a look as sounds ideal for my girls.

OhRex · 30/12/2020 09:47

Big hits here were one of those wire head massagers (50p from Poundland in the sale) and a whoopee cushion! Also the weighted blanket from onlinehomeshop which all of us have enjoyed sitting under on the couch. DS6 also got a truckload of skylanders off eBay that he was v pleased with. Ooooh and the few bits and pieces I picked up in the Korean supermarket for the anime obsessed DD9 - charmander fizzy pop anyone?

ILoveAnOwl · 30/12/2020 10:57

A 95p unicorn glider. Its made of polystyrene and has been pinging about the house since Xmas. My favourite gift was the father christmas salt and pepper shakers my son chose from the pound shop for me. I know I'm going to get them out every year and be nostalgic for his beautiful 5 year old self.

TrickyD · 02/01/2021 21:48

Mushroom growing kits for vegan DIL. I keep receiving photos of their remarkably successful development.

An Oodie for my teenage DD. Total hit. She luffs it so much she wears it all the time ( she’s studying for exams atm).

@jocktamsonsbairn where did you get the baby Yoda shower gel - I've googled and can't find it. My husband is loving the Mandalorian and it's his birthday.

Who cares? Great thread. Appreciate some things mentioned might not be available this year but am picking up some great ideas!

DottyHarmer · 15/11/2021 08:29

Great thread to resurrect. I’ve been noting down some really good ideas.

RJnomore1 · 15/11/2021 08:35

@RockingMyFiftiesNot oh I don’t care I enjoyed reading it, just found that hilarious when I got to the end 😁

I bought one of these for DH, cost about £4 and was meant as a novelty gift that i thought he would put away somewhere but its used regularly and is fondly referred to as the ‘shed hat’ looks ridiculous but so very useful. This year he is getting a remote control solar powered shed light which i hope doesnt make the hat redundant 😁

Haha me too I love it when people try to correct others and they're wrong Grin

I find this thread very helpful so am gleefully bumping said zombie.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 15/11/2021 09:03

Last year a bought the 17 year old a record player as his main present was late arriving. Apparently it was the best present ever

SpinachIsAGatewayDrug · 15/11/2021 09:18

I once got my brother a cheap web camera to check in on the cat while he is away. It was a last minute add but he uses it so much I rather wish I'd bought a higher quality version.

SpinachIsAGatewayDrug · 15/11/2021 09:19

p.s. agree, this is a great thread to resurrect!

ancientgran · 15/11/2021 09:26

Long time ago but when my son was 2 we got some lovely presents, first Christmas of him really being able to open presents and get excited. Aunt gave him a tin of Cadbury chocolate fingers and walked round all day with the tin under his arm (and chocolate on his face) and wasn't bothered about anything else.

SeeYouLaterAlf · 15/11/2021 09:33

Thanks for resurrecting this thread. It's got some great ideas. I'm going to get a hat with light for DB who loves walking and led strip lights for DS2 who is currently refurbishing for himself DS1's vacated bigger bedroom.
And it's a lovely thread.
