What random presents have you given or received this yeah that have gone down really well? I got DH a beanie hat with an LED torch on the front for going into the loft as we don’t have a light up there, and he can never find his torch (and when he does it’s out of charge, and he ends up using the torch on his phone). It was super cheap and a bit of a last minute random thing, but he loves it! It’s really bright, and we’ve already both used it loads for going out into the garden to get things from the garage fridge. I especially love it as I used to hate going into the garage when it was dark and groping around for the light switch....

Anyone else got something similar?

DD loves her smiggle pencil case and DS declared his favourite gift to be a tiny pin badge of baby yoda.
SIL got a glasses cleaner in a cracker and thought it was ace!
Not particularly random items but not what I expected to be the biggest hits!

@MissMogwai

A big box of Japanese sweets/savoury bits for 16yo DD. Lots of different snacks and a guide telling us what they are.

She loved it and spent most of the afternoon tormenting her older siblings with the more odd ones. Ground fish sweets anyone? 😷

You can get a subscription for snacks from around the world; www.snackcrate.com/

@ShowOfHands

My Mum bought this hot water bottle for 9yo DS and he won't put it down. He's currently wearing it like a scarf while building Lego.

13yo DD got some mini toadstools in her stocking (for crafting) and she is in love with them.

I want one!

A plastic tiara from claires for 4 year old dd. It was a cheap table present. She loves it as hasn't taken it off all day today

Ltdannygreen · 26/12/2020 15:57

Got DS 12 a studio creator set which came with a ring light and a green screen and something else . He’d only asked for airpods so I had to clutch at straws for the rest. He absolutely loved it. I didn’t expect it to be such a hit. It was only £25

Ltdannygreen · 26/12/2020 15:59

Also got DS a case of purdeys for £8 for 12 and he was over the moon with that. Dd8 was over the moon with her fluffy scrunches I’d purchased on sale at Claire’s.

@MarmiteWine

The tin of smoked paprika I bought for my sister! I now also need to buy one for my mum.

And if anyone can suggest any other foodstuffs that come in fantastic tins and readily available in bricks and mortar shops then I'm all ears.

Sous chef.co.uk is worth a look.

A map of rude sounding places in U.K.

Had an absolute giggle chatting with US friends about it and sending pictures of the map

Bonar bridge and cockhaven were highlights. Typical men 🤣

jocktamsonsbairn · 26/12/2020 16:26

Shower gel in a tub shaped like baby yoda for my 18yo DS!!

I8toys · 26/12/2020 16:28

I love this thread. Its just shows its not always the most expensive or popular thing you remember as a child.

I loved a plastic beauty set in the 1970's that had a little plastic box with real tissues. I bloody loved it.

Hits this year have been cuddle cushions. Got one for my mum and their cat curled up in the arms and went to sleep. They thought it was brilliant.

sohypnotic · 26/12/2020 16:45

DD has lived her marble run, talking to the marbles as they travel down, and the Melissa and Doug felt pizza.

One of these. For my DS10. Although the teens are all trying to pinch it. Strangely therapeutic and doesn't tangle like a slinky!

Anyone else writing down these ideas for next year? Grin

NaughtipussMaximus · 26/12/2020 17:25

@NK5fd36457X11218d61631 I like that? Can you really not tangle it? I saw them and thought while DS would love it, he’d destroy it in five minutes!

Got a bath bomb from the pound shop for dc as a stocking filler. It’s the one with little toy dinosaurs inside. Dc loved it and insisted on having a bath right after breakfast, at 7am! They were in there for ages splashing about. The youngest has asked to go for another bath before bed

NK5fd36457X11218d61631 · 26/12/2020 17:31

@NaughtipussMaximus whilst it's not that robust, it doesn't tangle.

Drogonssmile · 26/12/2020 17:49

Got a teasmaid for my mum and stepdad. Very big hit. Now they don't have to argue about who's going to get up and make the morning brew Grin

I wasn't sure they'd like it but they definitely do.

Whatayear1234 · 26/12/2020 17:53

@I8toys I agree. I had a fake rainbow brite doll in the 80s as a smaller gift (as in nit my main one) and absolutely loved it! Also a polka dot hair bow in stocking once (80s child) and it was my favourite gift. It wasn't that I didnt like my other things.
This is a lovely thread. It shows that the stocking fillers can be as good as the main present.

Whatayear1234 · 26/12/2020 17:57

@insertRudeWord yes I am! I'm looking up things for new years gifts: cuddle cushion and Among Us plush toy.
Don't normally do a new years gift but a small token would be nice for a slightly grim year.

Justbenice1 · 26/12/2020 17:59

Sorry but my husband gave me the best best present I've ever received this year. He actually listened to me....so I've been asking him to stop working so much and spend some time with me. ( it's not a problem really I just miss him) so he's homemade me some vouchers for taking the day off, x6 damn fine seeing to ;) amongst many other vouchers like foot massages etc. But the best one is a voucher for a new cat ( clearly I'm photocopying that one lol).
I'd asked my husband not to buy me anything as even though we have enough money for gifts there just want anything I wanted. Homemade vouchers however, are seriously the best present. Can't wait to spend them ;)
(Please note this was a joke present, no misogyny intended - he's a fantastic bloke but just wanted to bend the no present rules), just had to share as I'm so happy

6 year old son got a pokemon card holder - €3 from wish and 13 packs of pokemon cards.
He has spent the day sorting them out.

He cant remember anything else he got Hmm

Mumto3thatsme · 26/12/2020 18:20

Do and I thought it’s about time the kids learn about the pleasure in giving it just receiving so we took each kid to a charity shop to choose something for their siblings.
Dd3 chose a cuddly great white shark toy for dd11, said shark has not left her side since she received it.
Ds10 is over the moon with his Lego architecture, says he can’t believe he’s been given such a difficult piece, but in a good way.
Dd3 is loving her dolls, I knew she would and I’m living seeing her be so gentle with them.
Dh is thrilled with his sat nav. An upgrade in the one he’s had for about 8 years, that gets used daily but the battery just cuts out.

Despite the current pandemic, I think this is one of my favourite christmases 😊

DianaOfTheLakes · 26/12/2020 18:24

A really small and cheap joke book £2.99 for my niece. The cousins have been begging to get back on zoom all day to tell each other jokes.

thismeansnothing · 26/12/2020 18:26

DD1 - all the Japanese tat from Kenji
DD2 - a football
