Unexpected hit presents

What random presents have you given or received this yeah that have gone down really well? I got DH a beanie hat with an LED torch on the front for going into the loft as we don’t have a light up there, and he can never find his torch (and when he does it’s out of charge, and he ends up using the torch on his phone). It was super cheap and a bit of a last minute random thing, but he loves it! It’s really bright, and we’ve already both used it loads for going out into the garden to get things from the garage fridge. I especially love it as I used to hate going into the garage when it was dark and groping around for the light switch....

Anyone else got something similar?

I'm going to go looking for a teamaid though. I don't think I've seen them since the 1980s and had forgotten about them.

mam0918 · 26/12/2020 20:18

both my DS got 'clackers' as one of their little santa gifts and have played with them constantly since even DH joined in because he declared 'wow I had these as a kid, I was great at it' lol.

One of these. For my DS10. Although the teens are all trying to pinch it. Strangely therapeutic and doesn't tangle like a slinky!
this has been a hit with my oldest this year (I bought him one last year that he didnt even look at that went missing so I got one as a freebie this year and added it to his pile) even caught youngest trying to do it this morning before him brother got up but his little arms are too short lol.

@EveningOverRooftops my DH is from Bonar Bridge... The other side of the bridge is Ardgay Grin

Rainbowandscarlett · 26/12/2020 20:58

My in laws buy me pjs every year (posh pjs-not charity shop ones I buy myself)
They got me some in tartan this year-I don’t really do tartan but said I’d live with them
Omg!best pjs ever!I love them
Red is my colour but I don’t really wear it
I look so classy and put together even tho I’m just slobbing around the house

My fella was over the moon with 3 bumper packs of his favourite sweets-I raided eBay to find them
He’s eaten one bag and is halfway through the second
I’m the best girlfriend ever for ‘just knowing him inside out’
(He told his mate about 7 months ago and I went online to order them-the dog was told not to let on-turns out he’s ace at keeping secrets)

A Lego stationary set that was a freebie

FilthyforFirth · 26/12/2020 21:51

A dino slingshot game that was about a fiver. DS 3 loves it and delayed opening other presents to play with it.
A classic, but also Hungry Hippos! I was not expecting him to enjoy it as much as he has. We played it all evening and at various points throughout today as well!

lucysmam · 26/12/2020 21:56

@Chosennonesneakymincepie where are the iced coffee sachets from please? Dd1 would like those, I think.

mamaduckbone · 26/12/2020 22:50

I bought ds15 and ds11 cheap furry blankets and a set of those stick on strip LED lights for their bedrooms as little extras and they have both spent a good bit of time today tidying their rooms and putting their lights up. I'll take that as a win.

HayJkl · 26/12/2020 22:53

I got my kids a pack of spy pens from Amazon and they are obsessed!

gettingolderbutcooler · 26/12/2020 23:01

Guitar hero from eBay! Huge success!!!

heidipi · 26/12/2020 23:18

Great thread! DP is now getting a beanie light hat for his bday in Feb and I've noted a few stocking fillers for next year.

Hits here have been Wreck This Journals for both DDs after I spotted them on another thread, and a £4 Harry Potter trivia game from M&S which has been played loads.

PinGwyn · 26/12/2020 23:25

7yo - Basic Barbie Mermaid. DD is absolutely delighted with it and it's the thing she's been telling everyone about and swears she "really really" wanted one but forgot to put it on her list. I took a punt because it was a £7.50 lightening deal and she needed some bath toys!

14yo - Magnetic fidget rings. Couple of quid from the works and he hasn't put them down.

EyeDrops · 26/12/2020 23:28

Biggest surprise hit here was the water-snake squishy thing I grabbed on a whim at the checkout in Claires. Toddler DD clutched it tight all day and kept showing us to tell us she had it. 😊

Vargas · 26/12/2020 23:35

Fluffy sling back slippers for teen dd. I think they're truly hideous but she loves them...

gaggiagirl · 26/12/2020 23:46

A cuddly very cute gingerbread person for DS he calls it his baby he adores it. £8 well spent.

The oodie for DD. She hasn't removed it since Christmas morning.

A buff for DH...again...hadn't removed it since Christmas morning. He's bloody slept with it around his neck! I'll have to cut it off him probably.

NaughtipussMaximus · 27/12/2020 07:58

I got DS a fidget spinner and I’ve actually ended up stealing it for myself, it’s hypnotic! I’m expecting DS to reclaim it as soon as he notices but at the moment he’s occupied by his Lego...

DS(23) was chuffed to bits with a miniature tin of Danish butter cookies that I bought for a joke- I'd stopped buying them because he hoovers them up so fast!

Dsis loved a set of 4 Harry Potter coasters that I got in a charity shop.

Another charity shop find was a Lakeland silicone Le Creuset style collapsible cooking pot which my other sis was thrilled with.

We are drowning in sugar and apparently there's more on the way in a delayed parcel from my mother...

mandaloriancovid · 27/12/2020 15:08

A flying drone ball. It cost £3 and got everybody laughing and kids out to play with it.

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 27/12/2020 15:57

Miss 14, glow in the dark stars! Put on her ceiling on the 25th! All of hers were themed around a telescope, stars, book, galaxy umbrella and a stars projector - suggested by her sister who was then proclaimed, “the best sister ever!” They don’t always get along so this was massive.

Didyousaynutella · 27/12/2020 17:06

A pull up bar, cost £20. Kids are obsessed with it.

ilovesushi · 27/12/2020 17:34

I was rescued by mumsnet! I had a pitiful amount of presents for DD and was freaking out at about midnight Christmas Eve looking at her rubbish santa sack. Many helpful suggestions but went with making a homemade gift certificate for horse riding vouchers. DD was ecstatic. Has told everyone who will listen.

bigTillyMint · 27/12/2020 20:37

I bought DS (19) a football quiz and DD (21) a game called Moral Conflict - both £5 from Sainsbos IIRC, both been played with enthusiastically Grin

Countarthursgroupie · 28/12/2020 00:06

@Persipan that's the cutest thing ever! Grin

RaRaRasputinHardBastardToKill · 28/12/2020 00:36

Warm dressing gown for ds15 - he's disproportionately thrilled with it.
