Before I nod off in a food / booze coma, here is our new thread!

We've had a lovely, chilled, day building Lego. I should probably eat more cheese to really finish the day in style though. 🧀🧀🧀

Stockings I've never used double pointed needles successfully. I use circulars when I'm making socks and use a method called magic loop. I taught myself using YouTube and it was fairly simple. I've got stitch markers but I don't use them as it's easy to see where your row starts using magic loop and the position of the dangly end from the cast on tells me if I'm doing the first part of the row or the second part.

You could knit leg warmers flat and sew them into a tube but knitting in the round is very satisfying and appeals to my inner lazy trout as I hate sewing up - you'll only have the cast on and cast off ends to darn in.

Good morning everyone. Quite sunny here today but still cold. Got up earlier as couldn't sleep again so had bath and washed hair. Before my DS started his lesson he was singing his head off listening to some song, and it never fails to make me smile. Smile

Good luck with the homeschooling Wreck I find it really hard to keep them motivated though mine are older.

Hope your drops appear soon Fluffy and work quickly for you.

WreckTangled · 22/01/2021 11:23

Dd gets on herself but ds needs 1:1. He also has the handwriting of a 4 year old HmmBlush

MarshmallowManiac · 22/01/2021 11:35

It will improve, in my class I have seen their handwriting improve in a few short months. Maybe you could try him with something like these.

WreckTangled · 22/01/2021 11:43

When dd was in year one she started handwriting sheets but ds is now year 3 and has never done them. He really struggles and it's too much stress to get him do them Blush I know I should.

WreckTangled · 22/01/2021 11:50

He's gone off in a strop now. It took him an hour to write about six lines. It's just too much work for him.

MarshmallowManiac · 22/01/2021 12:00

Wreck we moved when DS was in year 3/4 and he somehow missed the handwriting lessons too. It has taken him a while to get up to speed with it and we did many handwriting sheets to get him there. It is hard as my DS didn't want to do them either.

MarshmallowManiac · 22/01/2021 12:02

Get his teacher on board and get her to contact him and say how he needs to practise his writing. It's what we did too.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/01/2021 12:20

Cursive writing is shit anyway. Just ridiculous. They should focus on legible handwriting in any style. Nonsense.

WreckTangled · 22/01/2021 12:28

They don't do cursive writing at school just standard joined up. But still it's easier and quicker for him to just write without joining up. I don't write joined up and don't even hold my pen properly. I only recently told dd that once she's at secondary school as long as her writing is legible (it's already lovely to be fair) they won't really care.

Marshmallow ds is at school 80% of the time.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/01/2021 12:31

There is no need for joined up writing. It's just so unnecessary and unneeded pressure on kids. Hate it. (Can you tell?!)

WreckTangled · 22/01/2021 12:50

I'm pleased I'm not the only one! Dh writes everything in capitals Confused

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 22/01/2021 12:58

Many many congratulations to crazy and lachy on the new homes :)

DS really struggles with writing too and is quite behind the rest of his class in that regard, I think it is very common.

I have just handed in my notice and it is such a weight lifted.

Bought a bike for DS this morning, can't believe he is 5 in less than 2 weeks Shock

MarshmallowManiac · 22/01/2021 13:02

Oh right Wreck well surely his teacher (or TA) will help him along with it. I mix up my writing sometimes I include capitals just for the hell of it. Grin

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 22/01/2021 13:26

Hi folks up early after nightshift as my daughter is moving in with her boyfriend this weekend. Had a photo of the boiler from her to show she had the keys.

I have Blepharitis Fluffy have done for years. Used to be a nightmare when there was smoking in pubs my eyes used to sting for hours afterwards.

PussyCatInChristmasStockings · 22/01/2021 13:53

Woolly I love circular needles, even for normal knitting. I'll have a go as I hate sewing up too

Wreck I think you just need to persevere with his writing - it is one skill he will need throughout his life, even if he doesn't want to do it. You're just going to have to put up with a strop.

I must be the thread weirdo - I loved practicing calligraphy and used my special pens for headings on all of my homework/coursework when I was at school. 😇😇

🤔🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

😂😂😂

CrazyBaubles · 22/01/2021 13:58

Fluffy I completely missed your message about your eye. I hope your drops have arrived now, it sounds painful.

puss ddog ran into the patio door once and now sits next to them waiting for one us to tell him he can come through, whether it's open or not 🙄

Thank you most

I don't understand the need for joined up writing anymore. I'm the only one in my family that does it, and that's only because I'm fussy I like it and it's faster.
DHs writing is unreadable, worse than any dr I've ever seen!

NoWordForFluffy · 22/01/2021 15:56

I don't think anybody needs joined up writing. To be able to write, yes. Joined up dying spider dragging ink across the page, no!

The drops didn't come. DH got sent out for some. My eye is itching a bit now. I think that means it's working! 😂😂 I'll get 3 doses in today, I reckon.

You've been productive with your unpacking, Crazy. I'm impressed!

CrazyBaubles · 22/01/2021 16:01

It's been hard work but being so organised at the packing stage has really paid off. By the end of the weekend everything will be unpacked, we'll just need to pick up the extra things we need (and organise some wall papering and painting).

I was mentally decorating the conservatory for Christmas yesterday Xmas Grin

Fingers crossed your drops work quickly Fluffy

PussyCatInChristmasStockings · 22/01/2021 17:01

Crazy you're gonna need another tree and loads more lights! 🎄

NoWordForFluffy · 22/01/2021 17:47

Crazy, the aim for the conservatory is visible from space! 🎄 🌙

PussyCatInChristmasStockings · 22/01/2021 18:34

Morning!

It's been very wet overnight here. Just what we needed! 🚣🏿‍♀️🏊‍♀️

The forecast is sleet and snow over the weekend and back to bastard freezing. I'll go and top my bird feeders up at the allotment tomorrow, but won't be able to get anything done.

My eye / stye look and feel better already. I'm glad the drops are working. Bloody thing!

PussyCatInChristmasStockings · 23/01/2021 08:11

We've had snow overnight again - it froze so I had to scrape the car but still went shopping at 6 when there was only me and 1 other shopper (and managed somehow to get a free crate of beer, thanks Mr Tesco). It's just started to sleet/snow again.
fluffy I've found another cross stitch pattern for you Halo will pm you.
