I haven't seen this thread yet and it's one I enjoy - the annual game of fridge jenga!

Here is ours - no meat in there yet so not sure where that is going to fit 😬

There is lots of booze & juice as well as prawn cocktail, squirty cream & double cream, red cabbage, Savoy cabbage, sprouts, a gazillion cheeses

@FestiveStrop

M/C people sometimes think they're classy posting what they HAVE ready for Christmas. When in reality it's the height of bad taste and really very vulgar, especially now.

Along the lines of posting crass photos of zillions of plastic tat presents.

I can only guess they've never been in a situation where you can't afford Christmas.

Well done.

There's plenty of people out there who give their kids piles of plastic tat presents and post them on SM, that can't afford it... They use credit cards, loans over drafts etc.
BronwenFrideswide · 22/12/2020 14:01

Posting pictures of huge fridges groaning with food whilst simultaneously smirking about how you are struggling to fit the rest of the food you have bought into them alongside seeing and reading the posts by SadSeal is way more than crass and tone deaf.

As for this is in the Christmas section, we do it every year don't read it if you don't like it - this thread is on the Active Page I doubt a number of those clicking on it noticed which section it was in.

As they say there's nowt funnier than folk and gleefully posting pictures of fridges full of food has got to be one of the oddest, smuggest things I've ever seen.

I'll join you in the grinch corner formerbabe.

@formerbabe so. Let's imagine that a poster had struggled in UC for the last year,but saved £2 a week, by making sacrifices throughout the year (they had a basic lunch every day, they bought only the cheapest toiletries for themselves, they made sure their kids didn't notice that the heating wasn't on all the time, they made sure that their kids didn't notice they didn't have a hot dinner with them etc) and then spent the £150 filling their fridge full of food for Christmas.

They're being a twat and showing off? Confused

From the brief glimpse of the ops kitchen and the humongous American style fridge in the photo, I doubt that is the ops situation although happy to be corrected.

@JorisBonson

my fridge is full of food and I've told the DC they can't eat any of it!!

@UndertheCedartree I'm telling DH the same thing. I've turned into my mother 😂

I bought the cheese a few weeks back and I've told DH if he steals any, he has to replace it like for like. It's worked so far.

Haven't done the main shop yet thank goodness as DH took this this morning.... Xmas Blush

@formerbabe we have a lovely big fridge freezer in our new kitchen that went in at the end of last year. Thanks to the pandemic though DH has had to take a hefty salary cut and could well be about of a job in a few more months, in which case we’ll be out of our house. You wouldn’t think it if you saw pictures of our beautiful extension though - this year has certainly taught me how quick things can change.

00100001 · 22/12/2020 14:11

@formerbabe Answer the question...

Butterbeeeen · 22/12/2020 14:11

Wow. That escalated quickly. What strikes me is the hundreds of posts on here saying xmas is cancelled and everyone saying no its not we can still have a lovely time. Some one tries too and BOOM. Yes the OP fridge is full of goodies, mine will be tomorrow as well. Am I loaded? No have I struggled financially this year? Absolutely. My DH and I work bloody hard all year to give our children a lovely Xmas with a fridge full of nice things then j will. I may even come back on this thread and post a picture of it for everyone to see as I am proud of what I manage to scrape together for my family. Especially this year when my work in a school has put me at risk on a daily basis. Yes not everyone can afford a lovely Christmas and yes I have donated to food banks numerous times year but likewise I cannot afford some of the houses or holidays on here and I just flick past and ignore. Let people have some joy in their lives and stop dragging each other down just to prove a point.

Thegrinchshorriblesister · 22/12/2020 14:13
@formerbabe so you're assuming how people who are struggling are feeling, that's even worse to be honest. FFS.
I know how people are feeling. I’ve just had to buy the Christmas meat for my cousin who’s partner fucked off two weeks ago and she is struggling to get her benefits sorted.

She’s really really skint and feels like a massive failure to her kids because she could not afford the traditional Christmas Eve buffet they usually have. That above else upset her the most tbh.

It’s just really crass to post these pictures with grinning emojis. Immature and crass.

formerbabe · 22/12/2020 14:13

they made sure their kids didn't notice that the heating wasn't on all the time

Is this the definition of poor now? I must be absolutely poverty stricken...who has their heating on all the time?

You are that proud of what you’ve managed you need to show the contents of your fridge? Confused

Not sure whether to laugh at this or feel sorry for how little self esteem you have you need strangers on the internet to validate you by looking in your bloody fridge. Do you ask your neighbours to come and have a look too? Grin

JingsMahBucket · 22/12/2020 14:19

@MrsWhites

My DD got the ‘get out of the fridge, that’s for Christmas’ shout yesterday...she came out of the kitchen and said ‘yes, I feel all Christmassy now you’ve said that’ 😂
@MrsWhites For that funny sass I’d let her have some Christmas food as a reward! 😂
Butterbeeeen · 22/12/2020 14:19

@Thegrinchshorriblesister oh I'm very proud and please don't feel sorry for me it could be a lot worse I could try to belittle people on the Internet all day for having a fridge full of food at Christmas. Bore off

Duggeehugs82 · 22/12/2020 14:19

Wow how rude Thegrinch

formerbabe · 22/12/2020 14:21

@00100001. If someone explained their circumstances and said they had struggled to fill their fridge and were proud of doing so, I have no issue beyond thinking its slightly bizarre. I find the entire thing bizarre to be honest. Food in fridge..stop the press

OptedForSome · 22/12/2020 14:22

Some of you have MASSIVE fridges. I'm very jealous.

JingsMahBucket · 22/12/2020 14:23

I love fridge threads! I just got one delivery a few minutes ago and I’m getting another later this afternoon. I did a half hearted clean just now to get stuff in there but I’ll do a proper one after the second delivery and post my pictures.

Ignore the terrible misery guts and thank you for starting this thread @MakeTeaNotWar. Love the username too :)

This thread also reminded me to get my Christmas Day duck breast out of the freezer to defrost so I can marinate it by Thursday morning.

Pinkiii · 22/12/2020 14:26

Oh bore off to the miserable grinches on this thread in the CHRISTMAS forum! Pretending you’re all concerned about leas fortune people when on reality you’re probably petty miserable people looking to piss on people’s little joy that they do have this year!

People have had a shitty year and can do and buy whatever they please and to celebrate xmas as they wish.

There is always someone who has it worse, doesn’t mean people’s lives have to stop.

My fridge is full to bursting and I can post a pic but what you won’t see is that half that food i’ll be making to give out vulnerable and homeless in our neighbourhood ( which we do every year as a street)

blue25 · 22/12/2020 14:29

This thread is insensitive this year I’m afraid & I normally think it’s Ok. Definitely not in the spirit of things.

Marmite27 · 22/12/2020 14:30
@JorisBonson you’ve got to try the Costco mince pies!!
DH is off to Costco especially for their mince pies later. They are epic (and huge!)

HillaryWhitney · 22/12/2020 14:32

This is a horrible thread. I know it's done every year, but don't people realise that this year is so so different from the norm?

MichaelMumsnet · 22/12/2020 14:33

Just dropping by with a call for peace and love (and a little Christmas cheer) on the thread.

Christmascheese · 22/12/2020 14:34

So is it not a good thing to try and find some cheer where you can?
