I haven't seen this thread yet and it's one I enjoy - the annual game of fridge jenga!

Here is ours - no meat in there yet so not sure where that is going to fit 😬

There is lots of booze & juice as well as prawn cocktail, squirty cream & double cream, red cabbage, Savoy cabbage, sprouts, a gazillion cheeses

it's not the grinchery on this thread that's appalling, it's the pile on to @formerbabe who has a perfectly valid opinion which hasn't been put forwards with any offensive language or attitude. Peace and love in the chilled foods aisle.
(my comment on the fridges is that a lot of people must be drinking 1k calories a day before even starting on the booze and where do you all keep your potatoes?)

CrunchyNutNC · 22/12/2020 14:35

Reading this thread makes me think I might be a bit depressed, I'm just not 'feeling it' this year.

Our fridge has the normal amount of stuff to see us through ten days until I shop again (I normally shop at 10-14 day intervals) but I've largely failed to see the attraction of very indulgent or christmassy things this year. I have some boxes of quality street for the family and some more cheese than usual, but I haven't got anything that comes in fancy festive packaging, no special nibbles, no special breakfast ingredients, no fancy desserts, no fancy sides.

I passed lots in the shop yesterday but it all feels a bit unreal and I bought my normal things plus a turkey.

I thought this would be a common feeling but this thread makes me think it might just be me!

MitziK · 22/12/2020 14:37
@00100001. If someone explained their circumstances and said they had struggled to fill their fridge and were proud of doing so, I have no issue beyond thinking its slightly bizarre. I find the entire thing bizarre to be honest. Food in fridge..stop the press
That's the thing... If having food in the fridge is such a rare occurrence, you're excited by it, your confusion is coming from a world that hasn't ever experienced that insecurity.

The ex was always disdainful if not outright contemptuous of having food in the fridge, a freezer of ingredients instead of treats and things in the cupboard. Because he had never experienced hunger or deprivation in the slightest, so couldn't conceive of there ever being a time when there might be no food and no idea when there would be any again.

This thread has just reminded me to clean my fridge tonight in preparation for tomorrow’s delivery Smile

@MichaelMumsnet

Just dropping by with a call for peace and love (and a little Christmas cheer) on the thread.
How much “cheer” will coming across this thread in ‘Active’ give to anyone really struggling?
movingonup20 · 22/12/2020 14:40

Mine is looking empty compared to normal on account of only being 3 of us this year, kind of sad to miss the annual fridge jigsaw. Even the fact that the Turkey will only take 2 hours to cook reminds me I'm not seeing my kids, parents or siblings (I normally host). Just hoping dp's dc's test is negative later today otherwise she can't come either

islockdownoveryet · 22/12/2020 14:42

Sigh I just want to see people's fridge not have all this arguing.
Pop along to the Covid threads if you want to be miserable .
This is a thread of Christmas fridges and for those that want to see . If you don't want to see don't look .
We get it you don't like it point taken now move on .

What you mean letting the plebs who don't have fridges stuffed full of food know that JingsMahBucket needs to get their Christmas Day duck breast out of the freezer to defrost and marinate in time for Thursday? That kind of Christmas Cheer?

Never mind let them eat cake how about let them salivate and drool whilst looking at what they don't have. Crass and insensitive doesn't cover it.

LH1987 · 22/12/2020 14:43

Seeing other people’s fridges has made me feel a bit more festive after not being able to go home and see family.

For me it is not Christmas till there is Boursin in the fridge!

Here is my (very badly organised) Christmas fridge.

Show me your Christmas fridges!
alltinselandbaubles · 22/12/2020 14:45

How nice for you.
Our fridge has 1/2 pack of red leicester, a pack of mozzarella, a pack of filled pasta, 2 pints of milk, 3 eggs, a bag of spinach and 3 yoghurts.

MrsWhites · 22/12/2020 14:47

@JingsMahBucket nah if I give her an inch she’ll take a mile and before I know it she’ll have broken into the quality street too! 😁

@movingonup20 fingers crossed for the test results! 🤞

MrsWhites · 22/12/2020 14:48

@LH1987 Boursin is the ultimate Christmas treat food for me too! 😋

myhobbyisouting · 22/12/2020 14:56

If it's in bad taste this year then it should've been in bad taste last year.

You do know everyone wasn't completely fine this time last year when you were perfectly happy with a fridge thread surely?

MrsFluffyMuff · 22/12/2020 14:58

Pop along to the Covid threads if you want to be miserable .

Yeah you're right! If people don't like the fact they hardly have any food whilst you lot brag about how stuffed full yours is they should jog on!

MrsFluffyMuff · 22/12/2020 14:58

Hardly have any food in their fridge *

UndertheCedartree · 22/12/2020 15:00

@Plsv87 - thank you - you too! Xmas Smile

Bumpsadaisie · 22/12/2020 15:00

I'm worried about them bottles in the top of the door. One is going to out and smash right when you're at a critical moment with the pavlova, OP.

But, but MrsFluffyMuff they are perfectly entitled and justified to brag because they've supported food banks during the yearHmm.
HotSince63 · 22/12/2020 15:07

I love this thread every year Xmas Grin

I've cleaned my fridge out today, I'll be food shopping possibly tomorrow after work if I'm not too tired, or Thursday.

What's all the bottled white stuff in the door @MakeTeaNotWar ? I can't make out the logo, I'm guessing it's different types of milk.

letsmakethetea · 22/12/2020 15:10

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

I thinks that us done now, the crisps are in the cupboard.
My favourite so far.

It's an annual tradition on the Christmas board, which usually isn't full of the grinch / bah humbug types.

And today the AIBU miseries have all appeared en masse. Happy fucking Christmas, eh? Xmas Hmm

Tangledtresses · 22/12/2020 15:11

@MatildaonaWaltzer I keep my potatoes on the cupboard under the sink it's freezing in there 🥶

tentative3 · 22/12/2020 15:11

So weird that this thread has attracted so much ire. There are threads all over mumsnet that could be seen as crass to those who don't have the same - style and beauty threads, travel threads, investment threads, property threads, hobby threads, sports threads, IT threads, job threads, car threads, threads about kids.

And those saying it is not OK this year really need to consider why they think that.

Yes but those threads are often asking for advice and opinions, this just comes across as pure bragging
Butterflyball · 22/12/2020 15:13

Oooh love this thread, my big shop is tomorrow and had what I think is an amazing idea of putting a cold box outside (next to back door) and putting all alcohol in there so more room for goodies in fridge 🤣😋
