I haven't seen this thread yet and it's one I enjoy - the annual game of fridge jenga!

Here is ours - no meat in there yet so not sure where that is going to fit 😬

There is lots of booze & juice as well as prawn cocktail, squirty cream & double cream, red cabbage, Savoy cabbage, sprouts, a gazillion cheeses

@ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy we have the same fridge Grin

00100001 · 22/12/2020 13:18

@MrsWhites it's just their awareness is greater this year.

Nobody jumps on threads like 'shall over my DD a switch or an iPad ' and derail them going "don't you know how many people can't afford to give their kids things like this?" Or if some posts "we're going to Rome, what's a must see attraction". They don't all like on and say "Rome? Some of us haven't had holidays for 20 years! Poor taste OP!!"

People are just miserable fucking twats sometimes.

UndertheCedartree · 22/12/2020 13:18

@rottiemum88 - but there were loads of us struggling before - why was noone concerned about that last Christmas? This sentiment really does remind me of the way all of a sudden when 'respectable' people need to claim UC it's suddenly not enough and gets put off! Lots of us have disabilities and illnesses that we are never going to recover from - our income will be compromised year in year out - which imo grinds you down more than a temporary situation like Covid. I think that's why I enjoy seeing what others have - I'm never going to have that but it's escapism! I'm not looking at it thinking 'grr...how annoying I had this last year but can't afford it this year due to Covid so people shouldn't be showing what they have!' Anyway - I'm going to stop derailing the thread. Merry Christmas to everyone whether you have a lot or a little I wish you a peaceful Christmas.

Shitfuckoh · 22/12/2020 13:19

I've got my Christmas delivery due soon, goodness knows how I'll manage my fridge jenga this year. 3 growing DC who seem to be bottomless pits!
So jealous of your fridge OP, purely due to the size of it!

00100001 · 22/12/2020 13:19

This miserable twats are the ones who have internet access to moan on a Christmas thread
...don't they realise that some people don't have access to the internet? It's just selfish of them to waste their bandwidth on a forum when others would love to be able to use the internet to teach their kids or order food...

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 22/12/2020 13:21

I thinks that us done now, the crisps are in the cupboard.

What about the baileys? Shock
ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 22/12/2020 13:24

@MrsWhites, there are 3 punnets of grapes in there somewhere. It's like Where's Wally with fruit! Grin

@JorisBonson, it's a perfectly-sized fridge. In normal circs! 😂😂

MitziK · 22/12/2020 13:25

@FestiveStrop

M/C people sometimes think they're classy posting what they HAVE ready for Christmas. When in reality it's the height of bad taste and really very vulgar, especially now.

Along the lines of posting crass photos of zillions of plastic tat presents.

I can only guess they've never been in a situation where you can't afford Christmas.

Well done.

I took a photo once of the contents of my fridge - because it looked lovely - as it was the first time in years that I'd actually had enough money to fill it.

You know what it reminded me of to see meat, eggs, butter, milk and a multitude of vegetables? Harvest Festival displays where the point is to celebrate having food for winter and the abundance that is available to us. (plus how great God is for doing it, but I'm pretty sure the harvest was being celebrated long before that particular deity because the most powerful/famous one)

Are Harvest Festival displays also 'the height of bad taste'?

dudsville · 22/12/2020 13:26

It's a festival in which food is central, as are loved ones and giving. A lot of people only have the food aspect this year, and some don't have that. We aren't all the same. It's ok however for people to feel happiness and contentment where they find it.

I got my shop in the morning that the new restrictions were announced, so the food I'd bought to share is now to be had for just us two. The result has, I think, started a new tradition in that we are having "holiday" meals every day rather than saving it for the special occassions of the holiday period and I'm loving that.

I come from poverty. As a result I have always understood that we are not all the same. The issue isn't the difference between me and my neighbour. The problem is the 10%. Infighting keeps us focused on the wrong thing. the 10% could wipe out so much struggle. When I was young my neighbour wasn't the source of my suffering. We need to keep focused.

It's completely different. Everyone knows some people can afford more luxuries than others. Holidays are a nice added extra...they're not essential to life. You don't die without a holiday or a laptop. Food is essential to life. Boasting about having it is like boasting about having clean drinking water...you just don't do it. I think threads like this are crass at the best of times.
@tentative3. How bizarre...I never suggested anyone should cut down on what they're buying Confused
@formerbabe nothing bizarre about me pointing out that you're getting all snotty about your scrimping and saving while your 'restraint' probably looks like utter luxury to some other people.

islockdownoveryet · 22/12/2020 13:35

Here is mine, my turkey is in there somewhere.
It's definitely fridge Tetris, one wrong move and it will all come crashing down .
I've tried to put the Christmas food at the back and the food I'll use before Christmas at the front . I really need a bigger fridge and freezer , I've no room for my Prosecco Grin.

Well yeah but I don't post my purchases all over the internet then make claims that I've scrimped and saved for it..

I agree with this

islockdownoveryet · 22/12/2020 13:40

Those who think it's bad taste move along let us enjoy what we can about Christmas. Last time I checked having a full fridge at Christmas is allowed.

damnthemanatee · 22/12/2020 13:40
@damnthemanatee fridge goals right there, that is the neatest fridge I've ever seen! To be fair though I don't usually look in other people's fridges and mine is a mess! I've just had my weekly shop delivered and my fridge (which is a small one with a freezer underneath) is no fuller than it usually is! It's just going to be a pretty standard week food wise really, with the roast dinner on Friday instead of Sunday! I have bough a lot more chocolate, biscuits, crisps and nuts than usual though!
It's not my fridge but I am trying to be that organised. It really eases my stress when my fridge and cupboards are really tidy and organised.

All over the internet? Or in a clearly titled thread in the christmas section of mumsnet?

Tangledtresses · 22/12/2020 13:46

Top tip put the booze in the garden and the soft drinks....

Here's mine it's looking a bit bare at the moment because the booze is in garden and the meat is still at the farm

Is a bad time to mention there's another one in the garage 😬😬

Oh Gawd, your right! Not as done as I thought... Confused

Plonque · 22/12/2020 13:52

@formerbabe

I don't understand why anyone needs so much this year...surely you don't all have hordes of guests arriving?

We are a family of 6 on a regular Tuesday and I've carefully meal planned and bought sufficient ingredients, with sufficiently good dates - to see us through to the 1st at least. My 2 fridges are rammed.

FraggleShingleBellRock · 22/12/2020 13:53

Place marking. My delivery comes tonight and I'm CEV so gone all out and packed the larder, freezer etc in the hopes that we won't need to shop for anything apart from fresh veg in January.

We have also this year made and donated 40 Christmas Eve boxes to our local food bank, 30+ trays of tinned foods that they needed over the last 6 months, bought and donated 12 moon cups and I purchased and dropped off two massive carrier bags full of toys to my favourite primary school after the head teacher mentioned to me that a few families were really struggling and may not get a Christmas. My kids all choose a charity to nominate for christmas every year and this year gave £25 each of their own presents budget too help others.

Yes I am incredibly lucky to be able to fill my cupboards and fridge but I also share in my good fortune with anybody that needs it. This isn't a bragging. It's in the Christmas section for Gods sake 😂🤷🏼‍♀️

Christmascheese · 22/12/2020 13:56

Formerbabe clothes are an essential too right? May I direct you over to the Style and Beauty board as you won’t BELIEVE what some people spend on a pair of shoes or jeans and then come on here to post about!

Honestly, if we were only allowed to post about things that nobody anywhere could possibly get upset about then Mumsnet would be a very sparse site. Do you jump on posts where people are discussing what washing machine to buy? Because I know not everyone can afford one of those either.
