I haven't seen this thread yet and it's one I enjoy - the annual game of fridge jenga!

Here is ours - no meat in there yet so not sure where that is going to fit 😬

There is lots of booze & juice as well as prawn cocktail, squirty cream & double cream, red cabbage, Savoy cabbage, sprouts, a gazillion cheeses

Do people know that this thread is MN tradition? Yes some people may not want to partake in it and so don't have to post/look but, for me, things have been so shit and so different that I feel better seeing things like this. Like I said, I would have put a photo of mine up which I scrimped for on a low income.

Are the people saying YABU to do this (even though it's not fucking AIBU) go on every single "what are you buying for Christmas" or even Reastie's threads and give the OPs and posters a load of grief? Or the What Are You Wearing threads? Or What's the Best Thing you bought This Year? Or the beauty advent calendars threads where people post their photos too? Surely beauty advent calendars are the height of "read the room people are skint" faux pas type thread....

Thought not.

Just caught DH with a mouth full of Twiglets. It's like having a child (he's 38 😂).

islockdownoveryet · 22/12/2020 16:05

@ChristmasFridgeJenga

I like these threads because I find it interesting to see how different people celebrate. Foods that are staple at Christmas for me growing up are incredibly different for others. I don't post so I can brag but more in the way that we scan rightmove for fancy and usual homes - common on here. It's just to see how we're different and it feels only polite to show our own as comparison.
Same here , some people have very extravagant food and drink but I'm not offended in the least , I'm just nosey . Grin Lidl and Asda shopper here who's saved up on her Asda card all year to afford Christmas treats .

@JingsMahBucket I think lots of replies to a Hanukkah fridge thread may involve this is why we have an obesity crisis and a lecture on why air fryers are better than deep fried food Wink

UndertheCedartree · 22/12/2020 16:08

@ChristmasFridgeJenga - I like your explanation. I find it interesting too.

JorisBonson · 22/12/2020 16:09

All ours from Asda @islockdownoveryet - somehow got a delivery slot last month. Can't go wrong! 👍

LH1987 · 22/12/2020 16:10

I hope for the sake of peace ,no one asks can we see Christmas freezers 😬

Anyone with more than one tub of ice cream is a braggy so and so.

SuperFairy · 22/12/2020 16:11

Why aren’t all the spectres piling into the people posting in the Christmas Cheese thread in Chat?

rumandbiscuits · 22/12/2020 16:13

@MakeTeaNotWar

It's sprouts and cabbage, not lobster tails and caviar 🙄 I haven't seen my elderly parents in more than a year and my mental health is down the shitter. I will enjoy the contents of my fridge having scrimped and saved to be able to have the semblance of a festive season.

Merry Christmas everyone

Good on you!! I'm very nosey so love this thread and having a nose in peoples fridges.

Merry Christmas OP! Hope next year is a better year for you (and everyone else Thanks)

TheTiersOfAClownAKABoris · 22/12/2020 16:18

Actually (sorry for spamming the thread) I wonder if the replies would be the same on a Show Us Your Hanukkah Fridge thread? Read the room, and people are using foodbanks, and stop bragging...The thought that people would respond that way makes me feel uncomfortable, but I can't quite express why.

I think that Christmas in the U.K. is more secular these days but it still has food traditions strongly associated with it eg Turkey, trifle? I do feel that food is a very important part of Jewish festivals (apologies if anyone feels this is stereotyping, I don't mean it in that way, more the symbolism eg - oil being used in Hanukkah). I think it would be seen as U to criticise a Hanukkah fridge whereas Christmas is fair game? but surely Christmas has traditional food for similar reasons?

TheTiersOfAClownAKABoris · 22/12/2020 16:19

I forgot to say the important bit Blushwhich was as PP said, I enjoy looking at people's fridges for that reason...seeing people's traditions and what they buy and eat. And inspiration for better years for me ....I really want a cake made up of wedges of cheese!!!!

JingsMahBucket · 22/12/2020 16:20

Ooooh, my last post was deleted. Is that because I actually spelled out GF @MNHQ? Nonetheless, it was true.

ChunkyMonkey2020 · 22/12/2020 16:21

Here is mine.
First Christmas with just me and my child.

Cupboard and freezer all stocked too.

Merry Christmas everyone 🥳🥳

@JingsMahBucket

Ooooh, my last post was deleted. Is that because I actually spelled out GF *@MNHQ*? Nonetheless, it was true.

It was bang on! I'm a bit Hmm as to why it was taken down!

JingsMahBucket · 22/12/2020 16:26

@Plonque same here. I’ve seen people spell out GF all the time while referencing another poster and nothing happened to them. I’m genuinely confused. The poster is and was being a GF, filling up the thread with deliberately antagonistic posts, derailing the lighthearted thread.

Duggeehugs82 · 22/12/2020 16:27

@MrsFluffyMuff

Maybe you personally haven't bragged, but thats why this thread was created. For pure bragging purposes. I doubt those posting pics of their 'Christmas fridge' would put them on Facebook for their real life family and friends to see. Because its bad taste.
U assume everyone is putting their photos on for bragging. Im just interested as i genuinely like to see what people r going to be eaten over Christmas period.
PickAChew · 22/12/2020 16:30
@PickAChew would you be able to save some space by pulling the eggs out and putting them on the counter or a cool pantry?
No space on the counters. We don't have a cool pantry or else a lot of stuff would be in it. That's why we have stuff in the garage, at the moment, in a, hopefully, rodent proof box! (and we have a lot of eggs but do get through a lot of eggs - severely autistic ds2 would lose his shit if he didn't get his eggs for breakfast so that's one of the things that we currently make sure we always have 2 weeks' supply of. Also, if the eggs weren't safely put away in the fridge, DS2 would follow us around the house with them and that way lies disaster!)

PickAChew · 22/12/2020 16:38

And I agree - I love a nosey at what people enjoy eating and drinking. I always used to enjoy food even when I only had a yellow sticker and whatever's cheap at the market because there was no Aldi back then budget.

CovidCarol · 22/12/2020 16:40

Can the misery guts go away please.
I love looking at bursting Christmas fridges and you're putting a right downer on it 😂

Livnatmum · 22/12/2020 16:58

Thank you for this thread, I was feeling very sorry for myself as it’s only me and my mum this year. The DC were coming but are in tier 4 and Boris put paid to our plans. I had no Christmas food and no plans to buy any but have been inspired by your lovely fridges and had a trip to Aldi this afternoon! I feel much better now and keep going into the kitchen just to look at it!

OptedForSome · 22/12/2020 17:01

I don't have the money to fill up my fridge like this but I'm more than aware that some people are and thats okay too.

I've enjoyed looking at the fridges !

MirandaMarple · 22/12/2020 17:01

I'm a twat with two fridges

fizzyp0p · 22/12/2020 17:05

Haha twatty two fridges Grin

My fridge is virtually empty. Just me and DP. Just eat normal stuff really few extra treats mainly crisps and chocolate.

Love the fridge pics.

Wellthiswillhelp · 22/12/2020 17:14

Fucking love a good fridge thread. I'm so jealous of op massive fridge, I've got a twatty hateful fridge. I actually hate it it's all wrong, it's drawers are useless, it's drinks holders are too small and the space between the shelves too big. Fuck knows who designed it. Will add pictures when tesco arrives, I think I will need to put stuff outside but it's 10c atm.
