I haven't seen this thread yet and it's one I enjoy - the annual game of fridge jenga!

Here is ours - no meat in there yet so not sure where that is going to fit 😬

There is lots of booze & juice as well as prawn cocktail, squirty cream & double cream, red cabbage, Savoy cabbage, sprouts, a gazillion cheeses

@UndertheCedartree believe me when you are in that situation you already fully know others have more than you - a mumsnet thread really doesn't register!

Don't tell me what doesn't register with me. It might not register for you but it has registered for me. It's one thing to know it but it's another thing to be shown just how much more people have.

@islockdownoveryet
It's getting boring now , so shall we all just have bread and water just so others can't afford it . My fridge is mainly cheese , ham and beer hardly champagne and oysters

To people who have very little cheese, ham and beer might as well be champagne and oysters. If you look in your fridge and think you have 1 egg each for the DCs and enough ham and cheese to make them an omelette for dinner and then see somebody else's stuffed fridge with lots of goodies to eat when you have no dinner for yourself then it's not pleasant. It'd be considerate, especially this year, for people to think a little before posting. If people with very empty fridges started a thread with what was in their fridges then they'd be accused of making better off people miserable or of begging yet it's OK for people with full fridges to show off about how well they have done.

People can have fun without making other people feel worse.
@MrsFluffyMuff - where have I bragged? Was it where I said we'd got some treats from the Salvation army? Or where I said I'd not had dinner in 2 weeks so I could buy fresh food? Your attitude is so patronising thinking you speak for all of us who are struggling - you don't!
Your attitude is so patronising thinking you speak for all of us who are struggling - you don't!

You did that as well, you told me that it didn't register about people having more when you were in a situation where you have very little/nothing.

TheTiersOfAClownAKABoris · 22/12/2020 15:54

I do actually buy as much Christmas food as I can though as my DC like it and look forward to it all year. I've spent £4 a week since the schools went back in September and am extremely proud of my filled cupboard (even though they, and my fridge, are much more sparse than last years).

I really really enjoy looking at other people's fridges and I would love to put up a photo of mine and feel proud but the thought of some grinchy fucker giving me the guilt for my £4 weekly spend is too depressing for words...

MrsFluffyMuff · 22/12/2020 15:55

Maybe you personally haven't bragged, but thats why this thread was created. For pure bragging purposes. I doubt those posting pics of their 'Christmas fridge' would put them on Facebook for their real life family and friends to see. Because its bad taste.

PickAChew · 22/12/2020 15:55

There are 4 of us with adult appetites (2 teen boys, dh and me) . And most of that stuff is a single layer, apart from the melon which has a stack of cheese behind it. One false move and those bags of salad get frozen to the back.

guesswhosbac · 22/12/2020 15:55

Not the tidiest as we didn't get back from shopping until 10 last night so just shoved it all in but here you go!
@islockdownoveryet, how dare you brag about your ham? so distasteful! 🧐
@LH1987 The monocle kills me every time! 😂

UndertheCedartree · 22/12/2020 15:56

@alltinselandbaubles - I do apologise. I didn't mean to imply that I spoke for you. When I wasn't able to provide any kind of Christmas for my DC - Mumsnet was the least of my worries! Going forward I find it best to not read threads if they will affect me negatively. Personally I enjoy seeing what others have as I know others who are struggling do to but of course I realise not everyone will feel the same.

MatildaonaWaltzer · 22/12/2020 15:57

dudes, are you all aware that THIS ISN'T AIBU?
Stop attacking posters who have gently expressed distaste, and their (entirely valid) reasons for it. This is becoming like a low rent version of that woman who wrote her lockdown diary for the F.T luxury section.

formerbabe · 22/12/2020 15:57

@guesswhosbac. Living life on the edge with the eggs perched like that!

Thewiseoneincognito · 22/12/2020 15:57

Doing our M&S shop tonight, we’ve bought tonnes already and it’s just two of us hahaha.

How’s everyone’s wine coolers looking? I’ve doubled up (4 of each is double right) on the Baileys and Moet 🤪🤪🤪

I wanted a Fortnums hamper but it seems ridiculous for 2 🙁

Sgtmajormummy · 22/12/2020 15:58

Oh dear.
I’m sure even the grinches have got something to eat in their fridges for the next five days.

Here’s mine. Not much different to a normal weekly shop. My fridge screams “Lidl!” these days as we’re financially embarrassed. No shame in admitting it. You cut your suit according to your cloth.
The space in the middle will have a spicy pork roast from the local Slovenian butcher tomorrow.

Show me your Christmas fridges!
BronwenFrideswide · 22/12/2020 15:59
@BronwenFrideswide - well the fridge posters have brought me a bit of festive fun and cheer. Pretty sure that's what they hoped to achieve and they have. But what did you hope to achieve? You've just made me feel patronised and a bit fed up.
To each their own I suppose, but I can't see any festive fun and cheer in bragging. You even responded to SadSeal and yet you can't see or acknowledge how this thread made her feel, that's patronising and I imagine she feels more than a bit fed up.

UndertheCedartree · 22/12/2020 15:59

@MrsFluffyMuff - we'll have to agree to disagree. It hasn't come across as boasting to me but a bit of fun and yes a positive boost to my mental health. My mental health is not great right now so I'll take that boost where ever I can get it.

islockdownoveryet · 22/12/2020 15:59

I won't start a show you my food cupboard thread then the 2 boxes of Aldi mince pies may be very offensive to you .

This is the Christmas board where we have this thread every year. They are the ones bringing the Christmas mood down with their AIBU approach to the thread.

ChristmasFridgeJenga · 22/12/2020 16:01

I like these threads because I find it interesting to see how different people celebrate. Foods that are staple at Christmas for me growing up are incredibly different for others. I don't post so I can brag but more in the way that we scan rightmove for fancy and usual homes - common on here. It's just to see how we're different and it feels only polite to show our own as comparison.

JingsMahBucket · 22/12/2020 16:02

@PickAChew would you be able to save some space by pulling the eggs out and putting them on the counter or a cool pantry?

UndertheCedartree · 22/12/2020 16:02

@alltinselandbaubles - I did and I apologised.

@alltinselandbaubles - sorry cross-posted

LH1987 · 22/12/2020 16:03

@Sgtmajormummy, spicy pork roast sounds delicious!

@TheTiersOfAClownAKABoris

Goodness the way this thread has descended has made me very thankful there wasn't a Show Me Your Hanukkah Fridge...imagine! Xmas Wink
I can only imagine the culturally tone deaf criticism that would erupt from a Hanukkah fridge / buffet thread. Blech.
