When do you shower on Christmas Day?

Out of curiosity... this is the first year dc's are old enough to understand and be excited about Christmas.. I don't want to miss a moment of them enjoying their presents or eating special breakfast etc.. but I also like the idea of all going downstairs sleepily in pyjamas to open stockings etc.

Is it madness to shower quickly then change into clean pyjamas before we all go open presents...? What do you do?

Obviously this is a chats and fun post, not actually stressing about it... GrinXmas Wink merry Christmas!!

Shower on Christmas Eve and new pj’s. Defo do not shower on Christmas Day...it’s a day to unwind, relax, have fun, eat, drink and be Merry!!!

Amerimoon · 16/12/2020 21:59

Shower Christmas night before getting into loungewear around 8pm. I like to shower in the evening anyway.

littlemisslozza · 16/12/2020 22:00

Christmas Eve shower in the evening.

AuntieStella · 16/12/2020 22:02

It used to be bath on Christmas Eve and nowt on Christmas Day

In recent years, shower after parkrun

This year Xmas Sad

ChipsAndKetchup · 16/12/2020 22:10

@SuePreem

I shower at the normal time - My dcs open a couple of presents while I have a coffee.

Then they have a break from presents while I shower as I really don't like being unwashed for much longer than that.

I don't think present opening needs to be a mad frenzy.

You sound like a fucking riot
Redwinestillfine · 16/12/2020 22:14

Before bed on Christmas Eve ...

Biscuitsdisappear · 16/12/2020 22:18

Must be something wrong with me, I prefer showering the evening before so that I go to bed clean. If the sheets are that bad that I need a shower in the morning then I wouldn't be in a fit state for Christmas.

Bin85 · 16/12/2020 22:22

Stockings first thing - just small presents
Get turkey in
Breakfast
More food prep
Quick bath or shower
A few more presents
Lunch
Any other presents wait until after the Queen's broadcast.

bellagogosdead · 16/12/2020 22:24

I never have a shower (well maybe on holiday) I will probably have a bath on Christmas eve. Float around in an elf t-shirt all Christmas day-collapse in heap. Bath again on boxing day.Xmas Grin

Siepie · 16/12/2020 22:28

Not at all (skipping one day won’t hurt), or maybe a bath in the evening with new bath things. I normally shower in the evenings anyway.

Unfairestofthemall · 16/12/2020 22:30

Kids will have a bath the night before and then put on their new pjs. Me and DH will probably shower in the morning but only quick ones and when the kids do getting dressed part/ calling relatives to scream merry Christmas and show them what they got from Santa. We open family presents after lunch so they actually have time to look at what they got instead of one mad rush in the morning

Empressofthemundane · 16/12/2020 22:37

When our kids were little, we put their stockings at the end of their bed. They were allowed to wake up and look at their stockings and run back and forth to each other’s rooms while their dad and I would rouse ourselves. Then we would all go downstairs together. They could look at whatever was sitting under the tree without wrapping paper from Father Christmas. Dad and I were there to take few sneaky pictures.

Then before unwrapping any presents, dad and I would go upstairs and get showered and dressed. We cook and eat a hearty breakfast clear up and then finally unwrap presents.

Somehow our little ones were happy to accept this. We instituted it after a year when I found myself at 2 in the afternoon still in PJs, teeth not brushed, with two tearful children who had eaten nothing but chocolate all day and a slew of very unflattering photos.

Slowing things down makes the fun last longer and a non-sugary breakfast makes for better tempers through put the day.

Norah8 · 16/12/2020 22:39

I don't. I see it as a waste of time when Xmas day is so special as a family.
Christmas eve nice bath and boxing day morning shower

Enicks86 · 16/12/2020 22:41

Sounds crazy but I get up 6am have a quick shower do my hair and makeup put my Christmas pyjamas back on, light the fire and put all the fairy lights on so when my children wake up it's all warm and cosy. I find by getting up early it gives me more time with my girls who are 8 & 5 when they wake up, Then a quick change later I can get on with preparing the dinner xx

dementedma · 16/12/2020 22:42

I love hearing about other people's christmas rituals. No showers here on Christmas day. It would take ages for all 5 of us!

AliceMcK · 16/12/2020 22:44

@sleepismysuperpower1

after we've opened presents and eaten breakfast
This.

As I won’t have to get dressed for any visitors this year I may not even bother and stay in my Christmas pjs all day 😂

peboh · 16/12/2020 22:45

I don't. I shower xmas eve before bed. I don't shower every day anyway.

AlwaysLatte · 16/12/2020 22:48

They usually bring stockings into us and we all open them then we go downstairs and they'll open a few before breakfast, but we open them one at a time and enjoy each thing (present opening lasts at least until the end of the days usually one or two for Boxing Day too) so there's definitely time of us to quickly get a shower. The boys shower in the evenings and there are always new pyjamas on Christmas Eve so that's an incentive for them.
We did the same as children, no crazy frenzy, it's nice to make it last.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 16/12/2020 22:48

After opening presents, but before going to my parents. So about 11ish? I have first shower, then DS, then we go out. Have to open the presents first so DS can wear his new clobber!

megletthesecond · 16/12/2020 22:51

After a run, around 10am.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 16/12/2020 22:52

Presents, breakfast, put turkey in the oven, phonecalls to family, shower, then the real cooking begins

oakleaffy · 16/12/2020 22:52

@myhobbyisouting

Imagine having to wait while everyone showered to find out if he's "been".

I used to almost explode if my mum had a long wee on Christmas morning Grin

This made me laugh! Oh the agony of having to eat a bloody breakfast first as a 6 yr old.. So loved Christmas, the crackly stocking, the boxes under the tree.. Bliss.
Ltdannygreen · 16/12/2020 22:55

I have a cycle of every two days and wash 8nbetween, this year my shower falls on Christmas Eve, usually I quickly have one between opening presents and breakfast. Kids are busy playing so have a spare 10 minutes.

Sweettea1 · 16/12/2020 22:55

I Normally shower about 11ish after presents an breakfast i am thinking about trying to get up a little earlier this year poss b4 they wake an get a shower just to wake me up properly am not a morning person (even on christmas haha) so shower first thing yo wake up otherwise takes me about hour to wake properly so think I would enjoy it more if fully awake.

MerchantOfVenom · 16/12/2020 22:56

I don’t like wandering around in pyjamas and dressing gowns, even at the weekend, I will get up, shower and dress, and then make breakfast, etc.

But Christmas Day is different as the kids are up soooo early, and it’s just not possible to shower before they wake.

So down, open Santa present and stockings, have breakfast and then shower. And then more pressies.

Feels a bit grim having breakfast unwashed and in pyjamas, but that’s my issue, and it’s only one day.
