When do you shower on Christmas Day?

Out of curiosity... this is the first year dc's are old enough to understand and be excited about Christmas.. I don't want to miss a moment of them enjoying their presents or eating special breakfast etc.. but I also like the idea of all going downstairs sleepily in pyjamas to open stockings etc.

Is it madness to shower quickly then change into clean pyjamas before we all go open presents...? What do you do?

Obviously this is a chats and fun post, not actually stressing about it... GrinXmas Wink merry Christmas!!

Not showering before about 9 has a massive negative effect on my mental health and I become awful to be around so for us it is stocking, shower, breakfast presents. I make sure the stocking contains a toy that will keep DS happy for an hour.

@ClaireP20 sometimes I’d love a lie in but there’s nothing like the sound of an excited whinny when you pull up in the car. I longed for a pony every Christmas when I was little so super lucky now (although also incredibly poor as a result). I hope DD has the pony bug, she’s been in the stable mucking out since she was 3 weeks old. But if she’s not keen it will still be pony before presents then home for shower and breakfast for me. Long suffering DH gets to prep the veg for dinner whilst I’m out Grin

I dont shower every day anyway because really, I'm not that smelly 🤷‍♀️

But, usually it would be xmas eve night or after opening gifts on xmas day.

NeonSparkle · 17/12/2020 09:39

Stockings are opened in our bed first thing, we shove Christmas music on in our bedroom, we have some toast and coffee etc, and the living room door is wrapped over with wrapping paper; it means no peeking or going in without me Grin lol
So once the stockings are open the kids play with stocking toys in our room and I rush off for a super speedy shower, then DH does the same. We don’t dress up or anything fancy but I like to at least be clean and shove a bit of mascara on lol
Then when we’re all ready we can then go into the living room and do the tree presents etc.

evilharpy · 17/12/2020 09:48

In all honesty I probably won't bother. I'll have one on Christmas Eve before going to bed, then wake up on Boxing Day, do a workout and shower after that. One day won't kill me.

Deelish75 · 17/12/2020 09:55

I’ll shower Christmas Eve evening, depending on how I’m feeling my next one will be Christmas Day evening or Boxing Day morning.

(I normally shower in the evening, very rarely in the morning especially if it involves washing my hair).

VestaTilley · 17/12/2020 13:38

Growing up it would be after stockings and presents, and before church.

Our DS is 20 months. I think I might shower last thing on Christmas Eve, and DH will shower probably after stockings and breakfast. Our house is small so we may not be able to distract DS from the lounge full of presents before DH showers, but we’ll just have to work that out.

Not sure if we’ll be allowed to go to church because of Covid; if we’re not then timings will be a bit more relaxed, but we’ll ensure we’re showered and dressed in our best by 10am.

Namechange8471 · 17/12/2020 13:54

Christmas eve here too.

Bluntness100 · 17/12/2020 13:57

Oh you can’t make little kids wait till you’ve had a shower! That takes from the excitement.

I also shower after breakfast and presents, at that point you’ve some free time available.

newnamenancy · 17/12/2020 14:29

I shower after bedroom stockings, before breakfast.

We don't open tree presents until after breakfast. They can definitely wait the 30 mins it will take me to shower, dress and do hair (ok, maybe 40 mins)

ellenleaves · 17/12/2020 14:30

After stockings which are done in our bed, and before breakfast and main presents. Main presents are once everyone is dressed and had breakfast!

BabyLlamaZen · 17/12/2020 14:31

Get up, showered and dressed whilst someone is downstairs sorting breakfast. Delayed gratification right? We have a bit of food then the room with the stocking gets opened!

HoppyHop · 17/12/2020 14:34

The evening before.

Imissmoominmama · 17/12/2020 14:37

The kids used to open their stockings on our bed, then we’d shower and get dressed whilst they were playing with their stocking stuff. Once downstairs, they’d choose a present each to unwrap before breakfast. We walk the dogs, then open most of the rest when we get back. We always keep a couple back for later, so there’s something else to look forward to too!

spiderlight · 17/12/2020 15:34

We all go downstairs to see if he's been as soon as DS wakes up (all cheerfully ignoring the fact that DS is a teenager and knows damn well that nobody's actually been....!) and then I go and have my morning shower and get dressed once he's opened his presents. He would never in a million years wait until I'd showered and dressed before going down!

Nonamesavail · 17/12/2020 16:16

Either late Xmas eve or after presents on a morning.

snookercue · 17/12/2020 16:39

I find it utterly odd people are saying wouldn't have a shower on Christmas Day.

Odd? Get a grip. It's just not the same as you.

Marmite27 · 17/12/2020 16:41

Bath Christmas Eve and bath Christmas Day night. No need for a shower.

AuntieMarys · 17/12/2020 16:43

We do a 6 mile walk first....shower about 11.30 and then get ready to open gifts

ElfieElfington · 17/12/2020 17:17

I'll have a bath and wash my hair Christmas Eve night.

DPs daughter is joining us for lunch so I might have a quick shower when I get dressed, if she want coming I'd pop a bra on under my PJs and turn the heating up.

goose1964 · 17/12/2020 18:11

I've always had a bath immediately after breakfast

LastChristmas20 · 17/12/2020 19:19

Since DD was old enough to want to rush up and into presents.

Our schedule is:

She joins us in bed (anytime from 6 onwards we allow) and opens her stocking. DH and I give each other our cards.

Then we get the kettle and our dressing gowns on and head to the living room.

DD opens a few presents while DH and I have a coffee. By which time one of us will need the loo.

So at that point DD stops unwrapping and then can play with some of the things she's opened so far.

I tend to wangle it so that something that needs built or batteries put in is opened early. Then that way we get half an hour or so to take it in turns to get washed and dressed while the other parent plays with DD. I do make sure my hair is washed on the 24th so it's not needed on the 25th.

Then we have a quick breakfast and convince DD to put some normal clothes on and do her teeth.

Then we can get to the serious unwrapping where we all take it in turns.

Works well and means DD hasn't opened everything by 7am.

RoseZinfandel · 17/12/2020 19:31

My Dc always open stockings on their beds, without me.
This gives me extra time in bed, and time to shower while they enjoy the contents of the stockings.

BrandyandDeath · 17/12/2020 19:37

@AuntieMarys

We do a 6 mile walk first....shower about 11.30 and then get ready to open gifts
My three-year-old quadruplets insist on a similar routine.
lazylinguist · 17/12/2020 19:46

Stockings as soon as we're awake. Then showers, get dressed, have breakfast, then Bucks Fizz while opening presents. Otherwise it would all be over by about 9am, with hours to wait before lunch.

There is no way on earth I would not shower on Christmas morning. I hate the idea of a slobby Christmas. My hair looks lank 24 hours after I've washed it, and I'm not having lank hair with my festive clothes! We don't dress up super smart or anything, but definitely on the smart side of casual.
