When do you shower on Christmas Day?

Out of curiosity... this is the first year dc's are old enough to understand and be excited about Christmas.. I don't want to miss a moment of them enjoying their presents or eating special breakfast etc.. but I also like the idea of all going downstairs sleepily in pyjamas to open stockings etc.

Is it madness to shower quickly then change into clean pyjamas before we all go open presents...? What do you do?

Obviously this is a chats and fun post, not actually stressing about it... GrinXmas Wink merry Christmas!!

Not the norm for most but after morning stables for me. DD is still little (15 months) but when she’s bigger it’ll be stocking only before ponies, presents after. But pony mad kids don’t mind that Smile
If DD turns out not to be pony mad then she’ll have to stay home with DH.

Ginnotgym · 16/12/2020 22:59

I do this! Always have and my daughter is 7 😆
Back in clean pjs in bed before she comes down to our room

Branstonchunk · 16/12/2020 23:02

I shower Christmas Eve night and then Christmas night

shazshaz · 16/12/2020 23:09

I usually wind up having a shower about midday. Kids sleep in until 9.30/10 ish so I do too. Present opening while drinking tea then I sling the turkey in the oven & leave instructions for anyone willing to listen. We don't do breakfast - usually too much chocolate has been eaten during the present opening.

TokyoSushi · 16/12/2020 23:14

After the present opening whilst DH is cooking a lovely big breakfast. I like to use any new stuff that I have!

TableFlowerss · 16/12/2020 23:15

@myhobbyisouting

Imagine having to wait while everyone showered to find out if he's "been".

I used to almost explode if my mum had a long wee on Christmas morning Grin

Same 🤣😂
saffire · 16/12/2020 23:19

Before bed on Xmas eve! Although this year I know I've got some nice bath salts so might have a long soak on Christmas night before tea.

Rosebel · 16/12/2020 23:30

We do stockings in our bedroom. I'm mean though and make everyone have breakfast and showe before main presents.
It's less of an issue this year but we normally see family on Christmas day and if I let the children open their presents before shower /dress then we'd never get out of the house.

supersplodge · 16/12/2020 23:30

Agree with PPs who say Xmas Eve! No way are any of us going to shower on the big day - there's too much else going on.

Normally we go to the crib service at church at 4 pm and then have a meal in the local family friendly pub at 5.30, before coming home and getting ready for Christmas (i.e. I peel sprouts, DH puts out hay for the reindeer and DCs leave mince pies etc for FC). So we would all shower during the day before all that. This year will be a bit quieter.....

But we can all manage without washing on Christmas Day. If the DCs get smellier as teens and need to wash more I suppose I would suggest they did so after breakfast/stockings and before grandma arrives and main presents, but I certainly won't have time (and will carry a whiff of roast turkey all day anyway........Grin).

ClaireP20 · 16/12/2020 23:32

@veeeeh

Day before. Feck that shite on the day.

You would think we were all down the mines. My granny survided to 95 bless her with a flannel wash.

🤣🤣

I can't tell you how jealous I am...stuck in my east london abode..

It's so lovely to read so many different versions of Christmas morning, I feel all warm inside!

We will do presents, DC will have breakfast while we clear up/build toys. First year we're not leaving the house on Christmas day, so i suspect i'll be the only one showering, probably while the DC have breakfast this year.

DwangelaForever · 16/12/2020 23:39

Deffo after present opening and breakfast.

MarmaladeTeepee · 17/12/2020 05:21

After breakfast and presents, but only a quick body wash not a full hair wash (my hair is ridiculously thick and takes forever to dry). I do hair the day before and then just a quick run over with the straighteners on Christmas morning. DH and DC all have showers/baths on a night so it's only me in the morning.

midnightstar66 · 17/12/2020 05:28

Either after breakfast and presents or not all all. It's a very relaxed day for us though so skipping isn't an issue. If yours is more formal then definitely after presents.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 17/12/2020 07:07

There's a 15-30 minute window between the 3 year old and 2 year old waking up. We planning on letting the 3 year old open her stocking in our bed, watching a bit of Christmas cartoons on tv while husband and I brush our teeth (in prep for the kisses), wash our faces and brush our hair.
I usually have a lovely bath after presents and breakfast using my new lotions and potions while my husband plays with the kids. Then we go for a walk.
Ohh you've got me all excited for Christmas now!

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 17/12/2020 07:10

Christmas eve. However I do always make sure I get myself very nice shampoo and conditioner for Xmas. I only buy it this time of year so sometimes I'll have a morning shower to use it Grin I don't miss presents as DH is a big kid and wakes DD up at the crack of dawn to open presents Hmm

Oh should clarify, we do stockings hung on our bedroom door with small treats in. Then main presents under the tree downstairs.
BrandyandDeath · 17/12/2020 07:16

By my calculations, Christmas falls on a Friday, so Christmas/Boxing night (Dec 25/26) is bumsex night on Mumsnet.

Therefore, bathing needs to happen as close to bedtime as possible on Dec 25.

Angel2702 · 17/12/2020 07:20

We don’t have a shower, we all bath before bed and have a wash at the sink when we get dressed in the morning.

Iamblossom · 17/12/2020 07:20

I find it utterly odd people are saying wouldn't have a shower on Christmas Day.

But hey vivre la difference!

I'll have a shower after stockings and breakfast or more likely, after stockings and while DH cooks breakfast.

Highly likely DSs will go back to bed after breakfast anyway. (14 and 16)

LST · 17/12/2020 07:23

@Iamblossom why do you find it odd?

Iamblossom · 17/12/2020 07:28

@LST because I can't imagine not wanting a lovely hot refreshing shower and being all clean and smelling nice, even if it is just to get back into clean PJs or slobbing out comfies. Maybe I am just smellier than everyone else!

Also perhaps I am more likely to get a Christmas shag than others with small kids so I would deffo want a shower after that. Xmas Grin TMI?

inappropriateraspberry · 17/12/2020 07:47

Bath on Xmas eve, and maybe quick wash of hair over bath on Xmas morning if not done night before.

JustAnotherUserinParadise · 17/12/2020 07:49

Open stockings, have breakfast, then shower and put on nice clothes before the grandparents arrive 😊
