Thanks @GoblinDaughter for the title

It’s nearly December, Father Christmas is busy putting the final touches to his toys on the workshop and we are busy elves preparing for a somewhat different Christmas this year.

please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

[[www.amazingbargains.com bargain ]] but with no space after/before the brackets.

Hello! I was wondering if anyone might be able to point me in direction of healthy /good value plants? I have a friend (keen gardener) who mentioned how she ‘would love one of those as they flower in winter’ every time we go past a yellow flowered shrub, i looked it up and i thiiiink it’s a mahonia winter plant, but i have no idea about gardening at all. I also already have got her an aldi milk frother.. I’m wondering about just giving a tenner and specifying it’s to put towards the plant, and letting her choose it herself (she often goes to garden centres) but something in me wants the whole surprise at being given it 😂 (i accidentally already told her about the milk frother!!) and i feel like there would be something so Christmassy about getting a winter plant!
any help much appreciated!

I have missed several threads and have nothing especially useful right now, but need to know...
Are crumpets actually not available in Ireland? It had never even occurred that they wouldn't be.

Bridecilla · 13/12/2020 09:15

@whoknows1230

People are going wild for hot chocolate bombs at the moment. I looked on Amazon and you can buy the moulds for a couple of quid. You could put a kit together with marshmallows etc

whatwillicallmyself · 13/12/2020 09:17

@Theimpossiblegirl sorry I spoke to soon I just went into my dpd parcel wizard and they are closing due to brexit, any parcels coming into Ireland now from UK may have to pay duties/ taxes so its not viable anymore. Sorry about that.

RugsEverywhere · 13/12/2020 09:17

@Clementine8 something wooden from Grimms

butterflymum · 13/12/2020 09:18

@Friedbanana how about one via Waitrose garden? . Numerous other online garden suppliers to choose from, but some showing slow dispatch times at moment.

Lockdownlumpy · 13/12/2020 09:20

Need a last minute thing for a 6 year old boy, value up to £10ish, maybe a bit more for something great.
Not lego or playmobil as they have loads and loads already.
Anyone bought for someone similar and have suggestions?

WisestIsShe · 13/12/2020 09:22

@Friedbanana no advice where to buy it but could it also be winter jasmine? I'd imagine your local garden centre would be the best bet. Plus then you can feel virtuous as well as festive by shopping local. Xmas Smile

whatwillicallmyself · 13/12/2020 09:23

Shout out to Irish mumsnetters have any of you thought of ways to get parcels from UK after brexit ?

whatwillicallmyself · 13/12/2020 09:27

@Theimpossiblegirl is it a certain brand of crumpets ? If you tell me I can try and get them here and send them to him.

BorisSortYourHairOutAndBrexit · 13/12/2020 09:28

@CeeceeBloomingdale - Thank you, that’s decided it I’ll order the Jim jams now! Xmas Smile

@Restlessinthenorth

To continue the game theme, last night we discovered that our kids love bingo. Anyone ever bought a set that they would recommend?
I bought one in the entertainer recently for about £8 in their sale. Still in its box as it's a gift but seems to be more sturdy (looks like the cage is possibly metal, or at least fairly robust) than the more expensive, plastic one I got from Amazon during lockdown, which my 5 year old broke within a week with her vigorous turning of the tombola.
MrsHaveLock · 13/12/2020 09:33

@Theimpossiblegirl Tesco in Ireland have crumpets. You could organise a delivery slot for this week and he could freeze them if he wants them specifically for Christmas Day

Dobble?
MydeamonsanOstrich · 13/12/2020 09:38

@MissMarple0203 last year, or maybe the one before, lots of us got really bargainous glasses cleaning cloths with photos printed on them. Grandparents here still using there's with grandkids photos on and still rave about them (also like showing them off to their friends; or did pre-lockdown anyway).

There were loads on EBay at the time; I think I got 6 for about £1.30 each. Might be worth a look.

MydeamonsanOstrich · 13/12/2020 09:39

*theirs. Sorry for my shocking misuse of English. Still too early on a Sunday Blush

whatwillicallmyself · 13/12/2020 09:44

@Lockdownlumpy yes you can get crumpets here but due to lockdown restrictions its hard to get out and about to look for things if they are a specific brand or can only be bought in a specific shop, especially for the elderly as they are more nervous going out and tend to just go to their local shop, well at least thats the case with my parents and inlaws.

finallychangedmyusername · 13/12/2020 09:53

@Lockdownlumpy

do they like Paw Patrol?

The Entertainer have lots of 50% off items and there's Paw Patrol books, jigsaws and games at under £10.

www.thetoyshop.com/brands/nickelodeon/paw-patrol?q=%3Arelevance&page=21

Otherwise Brio (or BigJigs) is a massive hit in this house (with my 6 year old boy).

Ikea also do a couple of wooden train accessories.

Or my 6 year old would love this Bat signal: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0762445262/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_IqE1FbXDYDHVN?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

CeeceeBloomingdale · 13/12/2020 09:56

@dizzygirl1 Something like this? www.woodsofwindsor.co.uk/true-rose-dusting-powder.html

Try John Lewis, M&S, TK Maxx, Fragrance Direct, Amazon

CeeceeBloomingdale · 13/12/2020 10:00

Also local chemists. Bronnley is another brand.

suneetime · 13/12/2020 10:00

Almost done but I need to buy a jigsaw mat that you roll up and store mid-puzzle. There are loads on Amazon but is there anything specific I should be looking for? Or are they all pretty much the same?

margaritasbythesea · 13/12/2020 10:11

@SomethingInTheWaySheCooks Wow! Very impressive chess skills Shock

Scout2016 · 13/12/2020 10:11

@Whalewithnosnail WHSmith have a set of chess and draughts half price, down to £6 something. Looks like just a normal sized set.

SomethingInTheWaySheCooks · 13/12/2020 10:23

@margaritabythesea thank you! 😊 Being from a small country helped 😂
