Thread 25 - the one where WE GOT TO MAGIC THREAD 25!

Reastie · 05/12/2020 06:50

25th December is Christmas Day and for the first time ever we’ve hit 25 threads! My little challenge every year was will be make it magic number 25 and we’ve only gone and done it and still 20 days to go!

Thank you everyone for posting and sharing ideas and links, so many have been helped in what will be a very difficult Christmas for many, to be able to achieve a Christmas more bumper and less expensive than they had thought they could manage,

please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Here’s Barbarara’s instructions from last year on doing clicky links:

Open double square brackets
No space
Paste link
Space
Name of link
No space
Close double square brackets

Like this
[[www.amazingbargains.com bargain ]] but with no space after/before the brackets.
If I do it again without the extra spaces only the word bargain will appear in blue

For more links etc see message 2

If any link doesn’t work or you want to add something please let me know by @ing me Thanks

@YouReallyAre As others have said, Talisker would likely be well received if you want a smokey, peaty whisky.

You could also consider going slightly wild card and gifting them a Remy Martin 1738, which is a very nice cognac. Would go very well with mince pies! I don’t know anyone who appreciates whiskey who doesn’t also like a nice cognac, especially at Christmas.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 05/12/2020 21:02

DH suggested if you want to get some good insight head to the Whisky exchange where you’ll find lots of good reviews, and their guide to each whiskey is very easy to follow once you know what you’re looking for.

@Justyou We have one of the plastic sushi makers a bit like this and also one of the more traditional bamboo mats. The plastic stuff doesn't look so pretty maybe but it it way easier to make really good maki rolls that don't fall apart - we use it regularly. Have totally failed to get to grips with rolling them using the mat!

@TheLastStarfighter - so pleased that hot chocolate shaker is a hit. Got one as gift for DH on basis of this thread (we we're underwhelmed by the Velvetiser - not hit enough/cups too small!) and I am now more optimistic that he will like it 😁

Thanks that looks good.

flumposie · 05/12/2020 21:34

My aldi hot chocolate maker came today. Just used it with some Hotel Chocolat flakes. Yum.

Jfw82 · 05/12/2020 21:45

My Aldi Black Friday roomba arrived today though haven't yet braved setting it up- am excited though!

I have had few request to suggest ideas for presents people can get my kids (2yo and 4yo) anyone else hate suggesting things that they know would have been cheaper if the gifter had know about the bargains on this thread? (Or that something now out of their budget would have been in budget earlier but just didn't want to say without being asked)

FizzyPink · 05/12/2020 21:46

I don’t suppose anyone has an Anthropologie code? I did a big order last week when it was 25% off and DP has left it until just now to decide he wants to copy my ideas for his family Hmm

Fuckingfuckssake · 05/12/2020 21:47

Lovely people, does anyone have a discount code for ASOS? Not somewhere I usually shop but it has just the kind of jumper I'd like for DF.

kingat · 05/12/2020 22:02

Last thing I need is some bath bombs for DS. Does anyone know if there is any way to get free delivery from Lush?

YouReallyAre · 05/12/2020 22:05

@HollyandIvyandallthingsYule thank you very much for your help. I will go and have a look at that site and see what I can find out!

FizzyPink · 05/12/2020 22:06

@Fuckingfuckssake if you download the ASOS and enable notifications they very often do 20% off everything. I never pay full price on there anymore, just add everything to my wish list and then go and buy as soon as there’s a code

Royal Mail is a total nightmare at the moment. We have a small business and orders I sent out last Monday first class didn’t arrive until Friday when it’s usually next day. Oddly I decided to test sending something second class to see the difference and that was delivered the very next day Hmm

Delahot · 05/12/2020 22:28

my nephew is 6 and he has asked for some soldier figures to play with. I know he likes playmobil type things usually. Any ideas or tips would be great as I am a bit stumped.

Delahot · 05/12/2020 22:32

Another request for help - my daughter mentioned that she really wanted a doll from the Nutcracker and the Four Realms Disney film. I assume she means a barbie type figure of Clara in a blue dress. Is this even a thing?

BicycleMadeForTwo · 05/12/2020 22:35

So chuffed we got to the big 25! Congrats Reastie 🥳

@BalaamsAss I can get you a student discount but it’s only 10%. They have a 15% code for first orders with newsletter sign up - here

Fuckingfuckssake · 05/12/2020 22:38

Looks like they might only be available in America?

Fuckingfuckssake · 05/12/2020 22:39

Oh, blue dress, ignore that.

girlsyearapart · 05/12/2020 22:48

I managed to get the facemask maker for dd2 allegedly arriving Friday
Currently panicking as I ordered dd2 & 3 new beds via Wowcher and since read dreadful reviews 😕

BalaamsAss · 05/12/2020 22:50

@BicycleMadeForTwo I signed up for the emails several hours ago and no code through yet. Sad

Not sure of this is what you’re after, but I got these for my ds. They have other types on the site as well and they’re discounted too!

1stMrsFatherChristmas · 05/12/2020 23:13

Well done on thread #25! Great bargain hunting everyone.

The Aldi velvetiser arrived today, cue much excitement from DSis, for whom it was an early gift (she is such a Christmas fanatic I knew she would get more pleasure out of it in the run up). She made 3 delicious hot chocs for her DNs and me then it stopped working and her own ended up being microwaved Sad. Not such a bargain after all. Very disappointing to put it mildly. We are eyeing up the real one with £15 off - can't imagine Aldi are going to to be able to replace it...

Rubyroo73 · 05/12/2020 23:17

Bomb cosmetics bath bomb crackers (with 3 bath bombs inside) are down to £6.66 with free delivery at justmylook.com

Puffalicious · 05/12/2020 23:31

I'm laughing at those PPs who are finished but keep looking on these fabulous threads and buying more! Because this is me! I went RL shopping in Sainsbury's today and bought more bits! Blush. Their wrapping and cards and decs are super gorgeous this year. I gave innand bought myself another xmas jumper- an ironic Wham at Christmas sweatshirt- love it!

SewVeryLazy · 05/12/2020 23:40

I'd love an entertainer code if one is still available please @Luxplus or @aimslou
