Thread 25 - the one where WE GOT TO MAGIC THREAD 25!

Reastie · 05/12/2020 06:50

25th December is Christmas Day and for the first time ever we’ve hit 25 threads! My little challenge every year was will be make it magic number 25 and we’ve only gone and done it and still 20 days to go!

Thank you everyone for posting and sharing ideas and links, so many have been helped in what will be a very difficult Christmas for many, to be able to achieve a Christmas more bumper and less expensive than they had thought they could manage,

please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Close double square brackets

Like this
[[www.amazingbargains.com bargain ]] but with no space after/before the brackets.
If I do it again without the extra spaces only the word bargain will appear in blue

For more links etc see message 2

If any link doesn’t work or you want to add something please let me know by @ing me Thanks

@Iwillneverbesatisfied what a lovely story, so warming to hear. I hope you can trace more relatives and meet up again soon.

OrigamiPenguinArmy · 10/12/2020 11:00

I know the Kevin the carrots stuff has been popular on here so I thought I’d report I've just been to Aldi and they had loads in. Cuddly carrots of all types and sizes, the turkey and the hedgehog (one of those might have ended up in my trolly), wrapping paper, little story books and kids pjs.

sh0ppingstar · 10/12/2020 11:02

Has anyone seen the Strictly 2021 annual for less than £10:59? It's a stocking staple but i'm sure i don't usually pay that price for it!

@TheLastStarfighterbthank you so much for your feed back I’ve been dithering over whether to order this or not....and I just have...I have already ordered the chocolate flakes from pendragon, my DS is going to love this. Thanks again x

Dolphintrainer · 10/12/2020 11:03

@ KillZill thanks for the sweets post, I’ve gone for it. Extras for a couple of teens.

mogtheexcellent · 10/12/2020 11:12

Thanks to everyone for the dressing gown help. DH vetoed the short M&S one but we found a good one on New Look and the 25% code a pp posted brought it within budget.

A 20% off code for Matalan arrived yesterday NMDM2-5WC-02IREK-2C6 Think its single use only. Please post if you use it so others dont waste their time.

I've just had a despatch email from Oodie for the two I ordered on 5th October - saying one will despatch on 5 January and the other on 17 January Xmas Sad. Have replied asking WTF and got an automated response advising that I would get a reply in 3 - 8 business days! Xmas Angry

The DCs have plenty of presents and don't know they are getting them, but I am so disappointed!

I had an email today saying they had been having problems with their emails and hope to rectify today. Some customers (me included) have not received a dispatch email but goods have been sent and in some cases received. I ordered on 1st October with a 8th December delivery day, they arrived on the 4th I think. Can you remember the estimated delivery date? Maybe it's a further email problem and yours are still being sent 🤞
CeeceeBloomingdale · 10/12/2020 11:29

Probably easier to attach than paraphrase. Can you call them?

Thank you @CeeceeBloomingdale, I got that email too, and confusingly I've now had a different email, also saying they've been despatched but showing the original despatch date, so I am now more hopeful that you are correct. There is a DPD tracking number on there, not yet showing a status, but I'll wait and see whether that shows up in the next 24 hours and try not to panic!

SisterNight · 10/12/2020 11:56

Does anyone know if you have to use a microwave with that hot chocolate shaker? I'm tempted but we don't have a microwave! Grin

LetsPlayBamboozled · 10/12/2020 12:06

@Puffalicious hurray! So glad it did help someone!

Has anyone seen those snakes that jump out of a can of crisps or similar in a shop? Like this Jump Out Snake

DD would love it if DH opened one but I don't want to pay that much. None in our pound shop. Wondering whether to venture further to B&M...

herecomesthsun · 10/12/2020 12:12

Re the chocolate shaker, I have some heat-proof microwave mugs that seem leak-proof, and have an air vent in the top that you could open at choice to equalise pressure. I might experiment with those, especially as they are a fraction of the cost of the shaker and both kids already have them. I will let you know if we have any success.

VividImagination · 10/12/2020 12:18

@ShellyLou1234 my popcorn came yesterday. Dh and ds3 have already eaten most of it.

The snake in a can is such a brilliant idea. My kids would love to give one to their Dad - let me know if you find one cheaper please?

Choconuts · 10/12/2020 12:29

Oh and my popcorn came today

MysweetAudrina · 10/12/2020 12:36

Oh no. I have a despatch date of 15 Dec for two oodies but no email notifications yet. Hopefully they will arrive but luckily the 2 people I ordered them for have January birthdays so can use them for that purpose if there is going to be a delay.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 10/12/2020 12:47

@Justonedayatatime11 @BalaamsAss

I still have a Meltingly Good Collection in my HC basket, the description is:

'First, two tubs of hot chocolate – gossamer-fine flakes of real grated chocolate, each in a signature recipe: Salted Caramel that’s a malty, deep hug-in-a-mug with a just-right salt tingle, and Classic 70% that’s smooth, elegantly balanced and satisfyingly chocolatey. Next, your Mini Chocolate Dipping Adventure for Two: marshmallows, almond biscuits, mini grissini and gianduja balls to dunk into pots of white and milk melting chocolate. Finally, your Mellow Baton Library: 45 solid chocolate batons in our signature 40% milk, caramel-milk and white chocolate – perfect on their own, or sublime dipped in your favourite hot drink.'

Hope everything gets sorted out for you both soon! I didn't order one in the end (it's currently showing as available to ship 09/02/21), waiting to see if there's another hamper deal on smaller items I can split for presents Xmas Grin

ImpossibleGirl86 · 10/12/2020 12:49

@herecomesthsun try that at your own peril!

I think the point of the hot chocolate shaker is it equalises its own pressure by popping out. If you shake a container of hot liquid, then open your air vent it will spit out, unless you're massively underfilling them - even then I would still expect a mess!

Good luck if you do decide to try 🙈

jingleballing · 10/12/2020 13:10

bargain alert

So I've just been in to m&s for the musical biscuit tins but was told they've sold out and won't be getting them back in again!

I very quickly overcame my disappointment when I spotted these gorgeous, gift boxes of biscuits down to £4 from £7 ... 720g so a really nice size for emergency gifting ! Needless to say I picked up three Xmas GrinXmas Blush

I was in my local (m&s food Didsbury, manchester) and there were lots on the shelves. But two other customers saw my pile and bought some so I don't think they'll be there for long Xmas Grin

TheLastStarfighter · 10/12/2020 13:13

@SisterNight you don’t need to use a microwave for it. You need some method of heating the liquid (kettle for water, stove or microwave for milk), and then you mix the hot liquid and chocolate together in the shaker.

@herecomesthsun I really wouldn’t recommend that. I made that mistake cleaning a travel mug - I put some boiled water in the sealed cup and shook it to clean. When I unscrewed the lid the (now pressurised) very hot water spurted everywhere and I was lucky not to get get burned.

jingleballing · 10/12/2020 13:13

Also absolutely loads of Kevin the carrot et al. Limited to 2 per customer but I think it was two of each type because I bought these and was fine. They also had the giant carrot ! Again, the Didsbury Aldi if that helps anyone.

SisterNight · 10/12/2020 13:18

Thanks so much! I'm going to get one

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 10/12/2020 13:22

Does anyone have a code for Feel Unique?

Don't worry about the wristwarmers @uniqlo!

If anyone wants a pair of bright pink turtle doves wrist warmers before I return them, give me a shout!

nicky2512 · 10/12/2020 13:29

Sh0ppingstar I need it too. Buy it every year for nowhere near that price. I’ve looked everywhere but will soon have to give in and buy it. Begrudge it though!

Also - I received an oodie yesterday that was meant for despatch on 15 Dec and also the email saying they had problems and hadn’t sent out notifications.
