Thread 25 - the one where WE GOT TO MAGIC THREAD 25!

Reastie · 05/12/2020 06:50

25th December is Christmas Day and for the first time ever we’ve hit 25 threads! My little challenge every year was will be make it magic number 25 and we’ve only gone and done it and still 20 days to go!

Thank you everyone for posting and sharing ideas and links, so many have been helped in what will be a very difficult Christmas for many, to be able to achieve a Christmas more bumper and less expensive than they had thought they could manage,

please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Here’s Barbarara’s instructions from last year on doing clicky links:

Open double square brackets
No space
Paste link
Space
Name of link
No space
Close double square brackets

Like this
[[www.amazingbargains.com bargain ]] but with no space after/before the brackets.
If I do it again without the extra spaces only the word bargain will appear in blue

For more links etc see message 2

If any link doesn’t work or you want to add something please let me know by @ing me Thanks

LutherRalph1 · 10/12/2020 08:24

Buildabear have up to 25% off at the moment with a "game" on their site. Santaclaw is the code for 25%

Puffalicious · 10/12/2020 08:28

Letsplaybamboozled Thanks for that Minecraft link- I bought the whole tracksuit for DC3 birthday in Feb. Great stuff.

Can anyone think of a £10 gift for a 15 year old...? Not a book

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 10/12/2020 08:32

15 year old boy, or girl? What are they into?

Lurleene · 10/12/2020 08:34

@AmberRoseGold do you mean Smash Hits magazine? That folded in 2006 I'm afraid. Apologies if you mean something else.

WeAreTheWeirdosMister · 10/12/2020 08:41

Sorry it's a boy, 15 yo, £10 limit, likes xbox - was looking for a gift card but I can't find a physical one... loves guitar

Top of the pops? A “cool” mag for an 11 year old girl. All suggestions welcome!

Lurleene · 10/12/2020 08:57

AmberRoseGold how about Shout Magazine? That may fit the bill.

WeAreTheWeirdosMister I have a DS15 and he loves guitar tshirts like this Fender one which can be found for around £10 in lots of different shops.

Haveyoubrushedyourteeth · 10/12/2020 09:01

@wearetheweirdosmister not the most exciting of presents, but Nike socks are always very well received by teen boys in my experience.

Ds3 (14.5) would prefer a voucher (Amazon) or cash. It’s a hard age to get right.
DinosaurOfFire · 10/12/2020 09:27

@WeAreTheWeirdosMister XBox do £10 vouchers in Tesco and maybe Smyths. But don't get the Xbox Live ones as that is subscription based, the "Xbox" only card will be able to be used for games etc.

That looks perfect. Thank you! I am sure there were tonnes of those sorts of magazine around when I was younger (tho’ my Ma barred me from reading any of them). Seem to be precious few now
Puffalicious · 10/12/2020 10:11

Wearetheweirdos I have 2 DS, 16 and 14. I got portable power banks from Sainsburys for £9 the other day. Has caribiner on it for clipping inside a bag.

Shower speaker (Typo have some for £10 in the sale), a print for his room (guitar one/ slogan) there's loads of companies that do them. I've just sourced some brilliant Stranger Things ones for 14 yr old DS and specific band ones/ lyrics for DS 16. Hope that helps.

Fuckingfuckssake · 10/12/2020 10:12

Just ordered this from Amazon (apologies to those trying to avoid) looks good for a tenner.

Bumping my comment, has anyone received the wooden utensils with smiley faces on them?

These are nice ideas.

Also agree that Nike socks would probably be well received.

Thanks so much to all for these threads, I literally couldn't have done it this year without all the amazing ideas and discounts! Everytime I light a Neom candle I shall think fondly of you all!
I have a final present to get and am struggling - DS has asked for Pokemon cards as it is the current playground craze. I've bought some before but they turned out to be fakes, can anyone suggest a reliable source?

guiltynetter · 10/12/2020 10:36

Does anybody have a boden code? I've tried lots but they're not working!

KillZill · 10/12/2020 10:44

Can I say to anyone struggling for gift ideas to consider an ancestry DNA test? Thanks to this, I found 2 cousins (and their siblings). Their mothers (my half aunts) had been adopted. They were full siblings and did not know each other existed. Sadly they died before they could all be reunited but I met my cousins just before lockdown and we've kept in touch during lockdown. I think there are more relatives out there and the more people who do DNA testing the more likely we are to get answers. So please add an Ancestry kit to your gift buying.

Is anyone still waiting for their Vodafone popcorn?

Ruralretreating · 10/12/2020 10:51

Wow, 25 threads! I’ve only been on these for a couple of years but love reading everyone’s ideas and finding bargains. Cult Beauty codes if needed
