Thread 25 - the one where WE GOT TO MAGIC THREAD 25!

Reastie · 05/12/2020 06:50

25th December is Christmas Day and for the first time ever we’ve hit 25 threads! My little challenge every year was will be make it magic number 25 and we’ve only gone and done it and still 20 days to go!

Thank you everyone for posting and sharing ideas and links, so many have been helped in what will be a very difficult Christmas for many, to be able to achieve a Christmas more bumper and less expensive than they had thought they could manage,

please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Here’s Barbarara’s instructions from last year on doing clicky links:

Open double square brackets

Paste link
Space
Name of link
No space
Close double square brackets

Like this
[[www.amazingbargains.com bargain ]] but with no space after/before the brackets.
If I do it again without the extra spaces only the word bargain will appear in blue

For more links etc see message 2

If any link doesn’t work or you want to add something please let me know by @ing me Thanks

I had a parcel that is still stuck at a sorting office apparently. Posted 2nd week of November and still not here. Think they're already overloaded.

whoknows1230 · 09/12/2020 17:47

@EightToSixer
Oh no. I phoned them earlier and the immediately said they'd send another one out and it'll be with me in up to 10 working days. That takes us to 23rd December though and I need it for a gift on the 24th, so I'm worried it might not arrive in time, or that it arrives broken and it'll be too late to do anything about.

I'm also worried because they haven't sent me an email confirmation for the replacement and the item has disappeared completely from their website after showing as out of stock for a few days.

Has anyone seen a minecraft/gaming Christmas jumper? I wondered if primark would have any but wondered if anyone has seen any before I venture out!

SnotRockets · 09/12/2020 17:55

I've only just thought that I need to get a present for my little girls music 'class' leader. She does music classes for preschoolers. Can anyone think of any music themed gifts under £10?!

TheCrow · 09/12/2020 17:58

@greyinganddecaying primark's website is showing as having Minecraft Christmas jumpers 🙂

BalaamsAss · 09/12/2020 17:59

@TheCrow Santoro Gorjuss stuff is still available. My DTs are obsessed with the range and have loads of it. TK Maxx often have stationery in and the other place near me that sells it is the Hallmark shop. Amazon also has some stuff. Be warned though that it isn’t always cheap. The Hallmark shop often has stuff 50% off but Amazon is more expensive.

Fabulous - I'd forgotten they have a website now! Thanks very much Smile

@TildaTurnip - the switch I ordered was supposed to be delivered yesterday - had a text from Royal Mail with an expected time of between 9:42 and 13:42 - but it still hasn't arrived. It was apparently 'dispatched by their supplier' (Very's supplier) on 29th November, but not received at Royal Mail until 7th December, so goodness only knows what it was doing for that week; Royal Mail just says they have it and 'normally expect to deliver to your address between 9:42 and 13:42', but no date....but there was a text yesterday saying it was arriving yesterday? Luckily there is someone home, as it's not the kind of thing I'd want just left.

I can only assume Royal Mail are seriously overloaded? Although I sent two parcels second class last week, and they all got to their recipients 2-4 days later.

I give up! I'm hoping it will come by the weekend?

JoanneCofton · 09/12/2020 18:01

@greyinganddecaying Asda have minecraft and PlayStation jumpers. I paid £14 the other day. I have seen them in primark but they were also £14 and I’d say way lower in quality than the Asda one

IggyAce · 09/12/2020 18:09

I’m sure I spotted a minecraft jumper in Tesco today and I think they have 25% off too. @greyinganddecaying

Bezzi · 09/12/2020 18:24

@Totallylostnow mine arrived the next day. You could try contacting them on their Facebook page, might be more responsive that way and you could find out if it was dispatched at least? And who it's being delivered by

TheLastStarfighter · 09/12/2020 18:32

@thaegumathteth I hope you feel better soon Flowers

TheCrow · 09/12/2020 18:34

@BalaamsAss I've found quite a few bits of it now, I just couldn't remember what it was called so didn't know what to search for 😂 found a few small bits on eBay and Depop within budget. Our Clinton's used to sell it I think but they closed this year

TheCrow · 09/12/2020 18:37

With regards to royal mail delays I've just been reading the boots thread and they're having issues with royal mail backlogs too. I think it must be the main depots that big companies use as I've had loads of stuff take ages after it's been dispatched and in royal mail's hands (Doisy and Dam chocolates, qwertee etc) but I've ordered stuff off eBay which has taken the normal amount of time to arrive so I'm assuming it's passing through the smaller sorting offices a lot faster

TheCrow · 09/12/2020 18:40

Also someone mentioned that a lot of postal workers are having to isolate so they're short staffed at the same time as being way busier than usual due to covid. They said that if your item is showing as being dispatched but not received by royal mail yet it's actually in the sorting office but not been logged into the system yet. So they do have it and it will get sent but it's just in a massive backlog

1122christy · 09/12/2020 18:43

Anyone had any trouble with aldi Black Friday deals getting delivered? We bought a Tv but not been delivered. Keep getting emails saying itl be delivered between x times and then doesn't show up ( 3 times since last week) have messaged aldi and they've been rubbish, phoned them today and twice got hung up while they put us on hold. They have said they will message courier company, can't phone them as don't have their number?! And itl take 72 hours for a reply. Our latest tracking said they delivered it yesterday. I feel like I might not be getting a bargain 55" Tv now.

Asj0405 · 09/12/2020 19:28

Royal mail do seem a bit useless at the minute. I ordered the chameleon game from Waterstones on 30th November and it was despatched on 1st Dec.

Still showing as waiting to be received by Royal mail so phoned Waterstones today.

The man I spoke to said they'd had an issue with a lot of orders as Royal mail seem to have misplaced a large amount of them and that they were currently in talks trying to resolve the issue. He explained they should know more by Friday but I'm starting to think I should order from somewhere else to make sure I get it in time for Christmas.

Puffalicious · 09/12/2020 19:29

Any Argos codes around? DS1 has decided on a gaming headset and best deal is Argos surprisingly. Just wondered if there was even a £5 off somewhere?

TheLastStarfighter · 09/12/2020 19:30

I can’t remember who asked, but I said I would report back further on the hot chocolate shaker.

It doesn’t make much difference to Cadbury’s Hot Chocolate, but I find that always dissolved pretty well anyway (better than Green and Blacks for example).

It is AWESOME with Terry’s Dark Chocolate Orange. 3 segments in the shaker with hot milk. Also works out much cheaper per kilo than chocolate flakes.

Quick question - cheapest place for a Switch with WiFit currently? (OK if it arrives after Xmas).

Chocolateteabag · 09/12/2020 19:35

I have a 20% off Matalan code if it will help anyone? Online code or a barcode to use in store (which I'll forward to you by email if preferred)

Matalan have finally refunded me for the missing items.
My Eufy robot Vac is having to be returned as its faulty (but they are sending me another)
Millets refunded me the second fleece I ordered - apparently I was supposed to be psychic and just know that this would be what they would do nearly a week after putting 2 in the despatch note but only sending one Hmm
But Grin Hotel Chocolat sent me 2 new boxes to replace the bashed ones in my hamper (so I celebrated by buying more [sheep] )

So need a new fleece for DF and then I'm done (bar the itch - but that will now need real shops to scratch)

MydeamonsanOstrich · 09/12/2020 19:38

Can anyone recommend good quality, hopefully bargainous, coffee beans for hard to buy for BIL? He acquired a massive barista coffee machine during lockdown from a local coffee shop that closed down and it's become his new obsession.

BunnyBerries · 09/12/2020 19:43

@Asj0405

Mine from Waterstones arrived just a few hours ago! So maybe you'll get it tomorrow.

TheLastStarfighter · 09/12/2020 19:46

My Black Friday Eufy vac is still “processing” 2 weeks after purchase, even though they took the money straight away.

drapeyday · 09/12/2020 19:49

@MydeamonsanOstrich I get these coffee beans I love there taste.
