Thread 25 - the one where WE GOT TO MAGIC THREAD 25!

999 replies

Reastie · 05/12/2020 06:50

25th December is Christmas Day and for the first time ever we’ve hit 25 threads! My little challenge every year was will be make it magic number 25 and we’ve only gone and done it and still 20 days to go!

Thank you everyone for posting and sharing ideas and links, so many have been helped in what will be a very difficult Christmas for many, to be able to achieve a Christmas more bumper and less expensive than they had thought they could manage,

please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Here’s Barbarara’s instructions from last year on doing clicky links:

Open double square brackets
No space
Paste link
Space
Name of link
No space
Close double square brackets

Like this
[[www.amazingbargains.com bargain ]] but with no space after/before the brackets.
If I do it again without the extra spaces only the word bargain will appear in blue

For more links etc see message 2

If any link doesn’t work or you want to add something please let me know by @ing me Thanks

@SnotRockets thank you! Will order tonight.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 09/12/2020 16:04

@mogtheexcellent

DH has just started shopping Hmm. He needs a nice fluffy dressing gown in either cream or pale grey for his god daughter. We like to limit to 20 pounds but can go a bit over. Any ideas?
I got a Ted Baker one is Debenhams for £18 last week, they had loads for under £20. Also try H&M, Primark, Peacocks and Matalan
whoknows1230 · 09/12/2020 16:09

Royal Mail seems really hit and miss currently. I ordered something from the National Trust website after the free delivery code was posted on here. It was dispatched on 30th November on the 48 hour service but only arrived today. It also arrived smashed to smithereens but that's another story!

Conversely, I had a Xmas card posted 2nd class on Thursday last week and I received it on Friday.

Thanks Scout2016. Im' lacking a hedgehog I think so I'll try there.

FizzyPink · 09/12/2020 16:22

Has anyone seen a really warm dressing gown suitable for an 80 year old? My grandma told me yesterday how cold she is in her rubbish thin dressing gown. I think she must have forgotten I bought it for her last Christmas Grin

Sorry no help, but that made me laugh!
unfortunateevents · 09/12/2020 16:33

@whoknows1230 given your experience who knows when my National Trust calendar will arrive then! Due yesterday via Royal Mail, obviously not arriving until at least tomorrow. We haven't had any post at all this week yet, including The Economist which should have arrived Monday latest.

uniqlo · 09/12/2020 16:35

@GirlWithTheYellowHat sorry for the late reply regarding your kind Turtle Doves offer. Unfortunately pink isn't my colour either, so think I'll ask DH to get me some black or blue ones. Thank you though.

IggyAce · 09/12/2020 16:35

@FizzyPink try Matalan or M&S, I’ve probably got a voucher code for Matalan if you find one suitable.

Choconuts · 09/12/2020 16:37

@FizzyPink

I noticed these earlier on QVC and thought getting my grandma one.

You can get £10 off as well if you haven't ordered before - I'll put my referral code on the referrals thread.

IggyAce · 09/12/2020 16:40

@unfortunateevents my National Trust order was dispatched Sunday and the message said it’s normally 3-5 working days but to allow upto 10.

Ibelieveinyou · 09/12/2020 16:45

@sorryiasked thank you so much that may have saved me a few quid!

@girlsyearapart I’m not sure my dd will wear one that goes over her face but they’ve got some brill helmets on there. Thanks!

sorryiasked · 09/12/2020 16:46

@FizzyPink Damart have a good this one less than half price at £14

dancemom · 09/12/2020 16:49

Has anyone who ordered the wooden utensils with smiley faces received theirs? It said despatches on Monday and Thursdays so it would have been a week past Monday for me, 9 days .....

TheCrow · 09/12/2020 16:56

I thought I was done but I'm now looking for a secret Santa present for my boss (daftly thought we wouldn't be doing it this year). Looking for help- I can't for the life of me find what I'm looking for, it's like a little cartoony goth girl, maybe slightly Victorian style? They used to sell notebooks and purses and other things with her on in places like Clintons but now I can't find anything. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? 😂

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 09/12/2020 17:00

@TheCrow might it be the gorgeous (or was it spelled gorjuss?) range? that sounds familier to me at least

princessbear80 · 09/12/2020 17:01

Top cashback have 15% on Etsy today

Inastatus · 09/12/2020 17:07

@FoxInABox - thanks. I managed to get hold of one too 😊 I’m looking forward to playing it

Yes, it's Gorjuss.
I still have pens here from Santoro in this range! Grin

TheCrow · 09/12/2020 17:21

@OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack that's it! Thank you 😁

EightToSixer · 09/12/2020 17:24

@whoknows1230
I had the same issue. I ordered 3 x talking mouse models for myself. My sister and my mum as we are all separate this Christmas. 1 was smashed to bits. I’ve emailed them a photo to see if they can send me another before Christmas but it seems unlikely.

Puffalicious · 09/12/2020 17:31

I'm super late to the Hotel Chocolat party! Nice list and Mellow both sold out and Meltingly Good not even coming up in the search. The £5 off £30 and free delivery both worked, though.

Any ideas where Meltingly good is? Or is that the wrong one in the offer?

Eve · 09/12/2020 17:38

@lexloofah

Just back from TKmaxx, found a lovely Royal Stafford Christmas plate for £3.49 to add to my deliberately random collection of Christmas serving plates and bowls

pardon the usual hard to remove sticker

They had loads in the store but can't see on the website

thats lovely I have built up a collection of Portmeirion Christmas Story and hunt ebay all year to pick up pieces.
TildaTurnip · 09/12/2020 17:39

We had message saying the Nintendo Switch we ordered from Very had been dispatched last week (Monday 1st) and STILL not received by Royal Mail on their tracking. Yet my dad posted us a parcel this Monday and it arrived today less than 58 hours after posting. A parcel I sent almost a week ago is nowhere to be seen though...

elsielegallez · 09/12/2020 17:41

@lexloofah - beautiful late! Random tip but if you use a hairdryer to warm up the sticker, it peels off really easily.
