Thread 25 - the one where WE GOT TO MAGIC THREAD 25!

999 replies

Reastie · 05/12/2020 06:50

25th December is Christmas Day and for the first time ever we’ve hit 25 threads! My little challenge every year was will be make it magic number 25 and we’ve only gone and done it and still 20 days to go!

Thank you everyone for posting and sharing ideas and links, so many have been helped in what will be a very difficult Christmas for many, to be able to achieve a Christmas more bumper and less expensive than they had thought they could manage,

please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Here’s Barbarara’s instructions from last year on doing clicky links:

Open double square brackets
No space
Paste link
Space
Name of link
No space
Close double square brackets

Like this
[[www.amazingbargains.com bargain ]] but with no space after/before the brackets.
If I do it again without the extra spaces only the word bargain will appear in blue

For more links etc see message 2

If any link doesn’t work or you want to add something please let me know by @ing me Thanks

@dizzygirl1 I do charity pin badges in fill your own crackers, I've done Marine Conservation Society, this year I've got RSPB.

Theonlyoneiknow · 09/12/2020 11:16

Oh wise ones! I am searching for idea but stumped. Family Great Aunt and Uncle live half in UK/half in the Alps (early 80s) and I cannot think what to buy them at all. Have already bought personalised Marmite jars but need a little something extra, not too expensive. Any ideas avoiding books etc? So hard to buy for! Thanks in advance :)

Luxplus · 09/12/2020 11:19

@Jacopone

Ay, Christmas stockings taken out from cellar and have a distinctive musty smell. Will try washing them but if get ruined I will need emergency replacements Are there any left in shops? London, so no Home Bargains or BandM stores. Ours were from Asda bought over the years, ages ago and dearly treasured. I’m stupidly fond of them but feel I should probably get some new ones just in case. 😢
My great grandmother always said to put damp smelled clothes in the freezer over night and then wash with lime... worked every time I tried
SparklingLime · 09/12/2020 11:21

For a teen boy... would you go for a Dunhem cosy cushion in snow leopard or two Typo dice cushions?

Scout2016 · 09/12/2020 11:24

@margaritasbythesea you can get different books of postcards from the Wildlife Photographer of the year competition, although that's not British wildlife but they are often spectacular so might need fewer of them? Past year's editions are cheaper.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 09/12/2020 11:25

@SparklingLime I’d get the dice.

Totallylostnow · 09/12/2020 11:31

Anyone who bought the fairy houses? Did they arrive??

Shufflebum · 09/12/2020 11:45
@Shufflebum the best I could find was the 15% off for signing up to emails. You have to be patient though - it took 24hrs from when I signed up to the emails before my discount code came through. They did of course manage to send me a reminder “you’ve left something in your basket” email after just a few hours, but the promotional code one seemed to take forever. I was very tempted to give up but as our non-essential stores are still closed and I know it’s going to be hell at the shops from Saturday onwards as people make a mad dash to fulfil their shopping once they reopen, I have zero desire to go out to do real-life shopping.
Thank you I’ll give it a go!

Mine came very quickly (within a few days).

You’re probably right. He’s such a snuggler though 🤷🏻‍♀️

SnotRockets · 09/12/2020 11:54

@Fuckingfuckssake

An offer for the Photobox coasters popped up on my Facebook feed earlier and now I can't find it! It brought them down to £8, now is that the best we can do? And, does anyone happen to know what the code is 🙄
SAVE40 I think
Helssjbells · 09/12/2020 11:59

I meant to get the Hotel Chocolat Mellow collection (or Nice collection!) yesterday, but it’s now sold outline...does anyone know of the codes are valid instore? Or if they’re getting any more stock?! Thank you!!

sorryiasked · 09/12/2020 12:02

@Ibelieveinyou we always had to get extra padding for helmets like this - there are lots of generic pads on Ebay/Amazon

VividImagination · 09/12/2020 12:07

@SparklingLime ds (14) would prefer the cosy cushion.

SparklingLime · 09/12/2020 12:09

Thanks, @VividImagination. And thanks to PPs who advised on the cute cat paw socks. Decided they would probably not be at their best on size 12 feet! 😂

mummabear74 · 09/12/2020 12:23

@SparklingLime

My DS would prefer the Dunelm cuddle cushion for the softness of the fur and comfort. I don't think he'd use the dice cushion - they'd be more decorative.
ClaraLane · 09/12/2020 12:41

@dizzygirl1 Check out Ben Cameron, he makes lovely pin badges

ClaraLane · 09/12/2020 12:41

Arghh forgot the link 🙄 www.etsy.com/uk/shop/doodlesbyben

Raindropsonrosesand · 09/12/2020 13:00

My fairy houses haven't arrived yet either. I haven't been worrying too much yet - deliveries seem slow this year. Really hope there isn't a problem - I'm really looking forward to hiding them in our (very overgrown) garden for DD to discover Xmas Smile

Lovemusic33 · 09/12/2020 13:01
@dizzygirl1 I do charity pin badges in fill your own crackers, I've done Marine Conservation Society, this year I've got RSPB.
Dd keeps asking for RSPB badges, we went to our local RSPB place at the weekend but the cafe (where they sell the badges) is now closed. Can I buy them online?

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 09/12/2020 13:09

That’s true the dice cushions are purely ornamental. If you want him to be able to snuggle down on it, it would need to be the other one!

I8toys · 09/12/2020 13:15

The dice don't look very comfortable.

SparklingLime · 09/12/2020 13:17

Thanks pps. Have ordered the snow leopard comfy. Yes, the dice are definitely just ornamental but he does like a bit of tat so I was unsure. Anyway, decision made!
