Thread 25 - the one where WE GOT TO MAGIC THREAD 25!

Reastie · 05/12/2020 06:50

25th December is Christmas Day and for the first time ever we’ve hit 25 threads! My little challenge every year was will be make it magic number 25 and we’ve only gone and done it and still 20 days to go!

Thank you everyone for posting and sharing ideas and links, so many have been helped in what will be a very difficult Christmas for many, to be able to achieve a Christmas more bumper and less expensive than they had thought they could manage,

please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Here’s Barbarara’s instructions from last year on doing clicky links:

Name of link
No space
Close double square brackets

Like this
[[www.amazingbargains.com bargain ]] but with no space after/before the brackets.
If I do it again without the extra spaces only the word bargain will appear in blue

For more links etc see message 2

If any link doesn’t work or you want to add something please let me know by @ing me Thanks

Really worried about my Aldi velvetiser now too! My parents got me mine as my main Christmas present so I won't be able to try it til Christmas day, crossing everything that it's ok

Theonlyoneiknow · 07/12/2020 22:03

@Casablanca78

Do the hotel chocolate offers on the collections come in any kind of presentation box or is it just loose individual items. Trying to work out how giftable it is as one present or will need some boxing up. Thank you
My last order just came loosely packed in a cardboard box
CoffeeAndEnnui · 07/12/2020 22:05

Thanks, @TheGriffle, I think I'll go for it. I did see the pic of the bag on the site and I liked the look of it so I'm glad to hear it really does come packaged like that rather than just shoved in a plastic bag. I've been caught out before!

chocolatepudandchocolatesauce · 07/12/2020 22:06

@kulaexchange do you have a Lego store near you? They are often available in-store still when out of stock online. My husband bought this year's one yesterday :)

Theonlyoneiknow · 07/12/2020 22:06

@kulaexchange

Any Lego experts on here? I've suddenly decided I need the Lego gingerbread house (code 10267) and that I can justify the price tag because building it will become a Christmas tradition every year ... the only problem is that it's sold out on the Lego website, John Lewis and Amazon. I found it on bric-brac but it was £150.00. Does anyone know if it's likely to come back into stock before Christmas?
It's in stock in some John Lewis stores if you check the "in store stock checker" but depends where your nearest store is?
margaritasbythesea · 07/12/2020 22:22

SparklingLime I bought two different pairs from two random UK sellers on ebay. They arrived really fast. I just searched, filtered by UK and clicked ones fairly near the top of the list. I'll check which ones tomorrow if you want. I paid about £3.

SparklingLime · 07/12/2020 22:25

Thank you so much! D’you think they would fit huge teen boy feet? Size 12? Possibly not!

SparklingLime · 07/12/2020 22:26

That was for @margaritasbythesea ⬆️

BeaLola · 07/12/2020 22:28

Lego 10267 Gingerbread House

I may have misunderstood your post ,so apologies, but is this the one that on Lego online shows sold out and costs £84.99 ?

They also have in Lego online option to check store stock - I randomly stuck in places near me in SE but no joy as also sold out but when I stuck London in it showed a list where Aldi sold out but then showed instivk in Watford - could be worth sticking in places near you to see if in stock

  • one thing though I would ring before embarking on journey just in case stick levels incorrect plus if you pay for it over phone they may hold it for you ? Worth a shot maybe?
BeaLola · 07/12/2020 22:29

Not Aldi - bloomin phone - also out of stock

Prizepudding · 07/12/2020 22:35

Appreciate the weighted blanket recommendations, have ordered one thanks

1stMrsFatherChristmas · 07/12/2020 22:36

@Elskerdeg sorry to hear about Aldi hot choc maker - i am in a similar position. On the bright side my DSis and I (it was for her) have decided it had justified the purchase of a real velvetiser!
Aldi customer service brilliant - they are collecting with Hermes on Thursday. They did say it might take 3 weeks to get the money back though!

@SparklingLime DH bought the socks for the DTDs (11) good as a novelty I'd say but not likely to last long. They are the tube sock type that for any size but they'd be a bit short for a size 12 I would think. Soft though and great colours (DDs have a calico and a ginger so anything with these colours is always a winner)

Rubyroo73 · 07/12/2020 22:55

Gaaaah new ipad 8th generation.. seems to be out of stock everywhere.. now that I have been asked to find one 🙈

Wondering whether to order from Apple in the hope that they will get first dibs of any stock, though realistically not expecting to receive until January..

Any thoughts?

Kerrierr · 07/12/2020 22:59

Help needed....
I need gift suggestions for an 11 year old boy and an 11 year old girl. Budget should be £5 each but could go a little higher. They both like games and crafts. Struggling to find anything🙈

DinosaurOfFire · 07/12/2020 23:11

Another one hunting out Argos codes, seem to be pretty rare this close to Christmas though? Daughter has asked Santa for an expensive toy (£50!) that wasn't originally on her list and as Santa only brings one toy and the rest are off us, its now an "essential".

Purpleheadgirl · 07/12/2020 23:13

Could anyone send me a student / University code for Hobbycraft please? Thanks in advance x

Purpleheadgirl · 07/12/2020 23:13

Unidays that was meant to say :)

lolarabbit · 07/12/2020 23:25

@Kerrierr what about a wood craft type puzzle like this one?

SnowDoggy · 07/12/2020 23:30

@dragonfly132

Does anyone know what a 27 year old who is in the Army Reserves would like for Xmas? I've been told 'army things' - helpful. It's for BIL who I don't ever speak to but he's coming to ours for Christmas so we need to get something.
I have purchased things from both Help for Heroes and Force Wear and highly recommend both of them. They are both charities for veterans and do clothing and accessories you might find something on one of these.
mrsbyers · 07/12/2020 23:34

I may have just spent £64 at hotel chocolat - oops

Lurleene · 07/12/2020 23:38

I needed another Spode Christmas Tree place setting this year and found the cheapest price for single items here, they were delivered about 2 days later.

The kid for the hotel chocolat offer! Completely forgot I had a £30 e gift card from them after a complaint in the summer. Once I added the codes and the gift card, I only had £5 to put towards the Nice List collection. Absolutely didn't need them, but will enjoy them all the same!
