Is paying someone to “dress” the front door a thing now?

Really is this happening? I’ve seen a friend asking for recommendations on fb that’s the second in as many days.

Look very Notting Hill. People are batshit.

halcyondays · 23/11/2020 15:17

Bit tacky, aren’t they? A simple wreath would look much nicer imo.

Titsywoo · 23/11/2020 15:19

@DontGoIntoTheLongGrass

Omg that one in the picture with the kids in front of. Where's the bloody door 😂

My mum and dad put a lovely wreath on their door the other year. It got nicked. You do not put stuff on your door around here at any time of the year Grin

This happened to us at out old house. Proper "naice" middle class area and we found it on the door of a house on the same road Confused. How stupid can you be?
AlwaysLatte · 23/11/2020 15:24

Bonkers! Go round and put a pair of dungarees on it.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 23/11/2020 15:26

@EachandEveryone

This is an example
I would pay to avoid that!

I'm wondering whether to show these to DH, we already have a Santa's grotto for a living room, not yet this year but it's always the same . DH has a white beard perhaps her dress up as Santa too.

I have seen so many beautiful trees on Facebook groups, I wonder if people do it themselves or get someone in to do it for them.

They bear no resemblance to our tree, which looks like I’ve fired the festive version of Homer’s make up gun at it. 😄

The bows have been a big thing here for a few years. Those that think they are posh get them for the birth of their babies (pink or blue obviously) Christmas and even when their kids finish primary school and move onto secondary school. They have photos of the kids in front of the door on the last day of school and the bows are in the school colours.

At the start of lockdown they were pushing people to get their doors dressed to cheer people up and then when the rainbow pictures started they moved on to rainbow door bows.

We live on the coast in Scotland and within a couple hours of cleaning my windows and door they are filthy again so I hate to think what the bows look like up close after a couple days. It just looks disgusting.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 23/11/2020 16:04

I live in the Outer Hebrides, so the idea or hanging baubles or wreaths on the door is amusing me. It's so windy here that they would be decorating a cow three fields away within 20 minutes!

ChasingRainbows19 · 23/11/2020 16:06

The ribbon on doors has been a thing for years hasn’t it? . I’m not a fan. Maybe a wreath that’s it. But if people who are laid off l I suppose things like this helps keep an income.

FredtheFerret · 23/11/2020 16:07

Yeah.

Not in Scunthorpe it's not. People would tell you to fuck right off if you were posting this sort of shit. More money than sense my granny would have said...

ParkheadParadise · 23/11/2020 16:08

DH owns a house building company.
He has a contractor who furnishes their show homes. I have used them in the past to decorate our home.
She was telling me they also now decorate your home for Christmas inside and out.
I'm tempted to ask them to do our house this year🎄🎅😂😂.
DH thinks I'm mad.

madcatladyforever · 23/11/2020 16:08

Insanity, also incredibly vulgar.

AcornAutumn · 23/11/2020 16:08

Full marks for randomness 😂
Pinkflipflop85 · 23/11/2020 16:09

Dh is a postman and absolutely loathes the door bows. Said it makes it almost impossible to get letters through the door.

Oh wow That sounds very Stepford.

I've got one that has a lovely little Ribin on it & every year I'm so thankful when he's still there at the end of the season

...and my front door isn't on the street & I'm in a decent area! No way I'd put him out anywhere 'less nice' 🤣

My door will remain 'naked' other than Robin Wreath.

Meepmeeep · 23/11/2020 16:12

It’s been a thing for years.

Thewiseoneincognito · 23/11/2020 16:25

This is definitely something for the crushed velvet instagram bandwagon riders. All aboard!

Jesus it’s like the hive mind of Mrs Hinch, Stacey Solomon and a love Islander all jumbled together to project a sense of faux wealth for likes. 🤮

Bunnybigears · 23/11/2020 16:29

Literally nothing can go on our front door, I actually caught someone in the act of stealing our door number!

Ginnymweasley · 23/11/2020 16:30

Someone in my small welsh village has started doing the door bows. They look so tacky, and I'm not convinced they will withstand the wind and rain. We have to attach our wreath with an industrial strength hook and it doesn't always last the month and we have a small roof over our door.

TotalBitch · 23/11/2020 16:31

@TW2013

Wow, do you think they could throw in a bigger house too?
Grin

Was thinking how utterly shit this would look on my teeny house! Like my house had vomited decorations all over itself.

justanotherneighinparadise · 23/11/2020 16:34

Every days a school day. That doesn’t happen round here 🤣

RightOnTheEdge · 23/11/2020 16:42

I've never seen any door bows in real life.
When I win the lottery and have my Georgian mansion I am definitely paying professionals to decorate my house!

scrivette · 23/11/2020 16:43

Some of the beauty type shops in our local high street have started having them all year round, I am not a fan.

I agree it's the grey/velvet/cleaning fans who seem to have these.
