Really is this happening? I’ve seen a friend asking for recommendations on fb that’s the second in as many days.

How do I get in on this?!

Inthemuckheap · 23/11/2020 16:53

Very American and making its way across the pond. Been done there for years.

Also have postie friends who find the bows over the post-boxes a huge pita. Selfish, entitled twats usually do this.

ahola · 23/11/2020 16:58

Good Lord! Facebook Britain is an entirely different entity to the Britain I inhabit.

Pootles34 · 23/11/2020 17:03

Bloody hell. A much nicer version - our local florist is employed by all the local shops to 'dress' their windows - it's really simple, just evergreen branches really with lights and the odd bauble- but looks really effective.

pussycatinboots · 23/11/2020 17:09

I've seen the bows. I've also seen the postie pulling them off the door to get the post through the letter box.
I don't understand why he doesn't carry scissors at Christmas now this is a "thing" tbh.

@Bunnybigears

Literally nothing can go on our front door, I actually caught someone in the act of stealing our door number!
Blimey -where do you live?
Bunnybigears · 23/11/2020 17:53

@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants a North East City, we do have lots of nice people as well!

Nonamesavail · 23/11/2020 17:55

Its all for Instagram and completely unrelatable.

PolarnOPirate · 23/11/2020 17:57

I think they look really nice but would be ridiculous on the majority of bog standard houses! Our 1970s semi would look a bit up itself with all that going on 😄

NotImpossible · 23/11/2020 18:01

I know of someone who 'does' windows. And by 'does', I mean paints them with Disney/other cartoon characters in Christmas hats and outfits. I'd imagine that its a total breach of copyright/IP but it seems popular...

WildWaterSwimmer · 23/11/2020 18:02

Those door bows scream 'tacky' to me!

CosyAcorn · 23/11/2020 18:02

I personally prefer this to glowing reindeer and santa on roofs, but actually I love spotting all signs of Christmas even if it's not to my taste.

Although, I'll be just sticking to the Christmas wreath!

MrsBobDylan · 23/11/2020 18:23

There are very wealthy people who, rather than give the money to charity, prefer to seek endless new ways to spunk their money ostentatiously.

How they can lie in bed at night while there are children who went to bed hungry I have no idea.

I don't begrudge them lovely, houses, holidays but this sort of shit? Yes, very much so. Fucking arseholes.

Oooooooops...

My excuses are

I did it myself

I'm barely working due to Covid and needed a way of entertaining myself for 30 mins

I'm in competition with the family across the road Grin Their house always looks amazing. Every time I add another piece of Xmas tat I put a photo on the street what's app challenging them for their next move.

But seeing all the comments about posties...I do not wish to upset Colin the postman so I will doctor it so he can easily post letters Smile

My parents are Geordies I never lived there, but love SS. I'm down in the SE. Mixed bunch of people everywhere!! Though more extremes (both ways) in SS I think.

My place too!! I'm even wondering if a 'contemporary' front door will look too 'up itself!'

NOW I can see why the posties are pissed off!!

Do you not feel guilty that you're making their job more difficult and that they have to touch your ribbon to move it?

I'm getting a new front door. I live the ones with the letter box at the bottom, but I won't get one as I think it's a shitty thing to do to the posties.

Cross posted!!

I look forward to your next instalment!!

If it is a thing.....then I want to be a door dresser 😃

AdultHumanFemale · 23/11/2020 20:02

Honestly, dressed front doors make me snigger in an uncharacteristically mean-spirited way. I don't know, it just looks... crass. I don't think it could look classy or clever or merry, however much effort was made or money spent on it. Unabashedly ostentatious. In our area, you only see 'dressed doors' on a particular type of house, most people have more traditional decorations which look lovely and in keeping with the season. I can't see them catching on here Grin

TheRubyRedshoes · 23/11/2020 20:05

I first saw this when watching a program about Tamara Eccleston - she had her door dressed for halloween and xmas, it looked amazing, I must admit I would like to be a door dresser!

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 23/11/2020 20:07

DS once bought some skull shaped tyre covers for his car and they got nicked whilst on the drive in the middle of the night. No way would a dressed front door survive here Grin

AdultHumanFemale · 23/11/2020 20:08

MrsBobDylan, I don't think it's the wealthy who lower the tone and tart up the hood.
