Is paying someone to “dress” the front door a thing now?

Really is this happening? I’ve seen a friend asking for recommendations on fb that’s the second in as many days.

This is tipping me over in to peak Grinch. Hideous monstrosities! Why would you do this?! 🤣

AdultHumanFemale · 23/11/2020 20:15

OK, Ruby, I take that back, if Tamara Eccleston does it...
What cracks me up is the thought of someone eyeing a door, back in the grey mists of a few years ago, muttering to themselves: "Now, what that door needs..."

TisConfusion · 23/11/2020 20:18

My neighbour had someone round 2 days ago to do this and in my humble opinion...it’s hideous! It’s one of those bow things which are bad enough on their own, but it’s then covered by a gaudy oversized wreath that barely fits the door. What’s worse is that we live in tiny Victorian terraces that open right out onto the street and our front doors are probably no more than 45cm apart.
So it feels almost forced upon us!

GuiltyDoorBow · 23/11/2020 20:33

@TisConfusion I'm in a Victorian terrace Grin

DilysPrice · 23/11/2020 20:33

I think it’s harmless fun (as long as you do it in a postie-friendly way though). When my DC were little they’d have loved seeing them. We used to go to Holland Park specially to gawp at the Halloween decorations on the houses of the American bankers - I bet they get someone in to wrap their doors in Xmas Decs as well.

Far too cheap to do it myself you understand. Five quid wreath from the flower stand outside Greggs, hung off the wreath hanger with jingle bells my mum brought me back from Germany ten years ago.

UncomfortableSilence · 23/11/2020 20:49

This is huge where I live, it's all over Facebook with prices starting from around £2/300 to do a door arch, candy cane theme seems fairly popular Confused Florists selling huge wreaths for upwards of £100, door bows have been going for years here so I assume this is the next thing.

VestaTilley · 23/11/2020 20:56

Oh I do hope not, OP. How ludicrous.

BlackCatShadow · 23/11/2020 21:02

Oh my goodness, those photos!! 😂

It looks like someone sneezed Christmas decorations on their house.

AndAllOurYesterdays · 23/11/2020 21:02

The only time I've ever seen this is very posh houses near Pimlico. But there it was very tasteful- lots of evergreen foliage and peacock feathers and such. No oversized bows in sight.

CovidTrialGuineaPig · 23/11/2020 21:11

I like the first picture. But the environmental cost? Can't get past that.

I have a lovely wreath which comes out each year and outdoor lights which I initially refused to join in with but now rather like.

Cheesypea · 23/11/2020 21:18

We cant even have a wreath because it gets pinched! I'm enjoying watching crap American Christmas films on channel 5. The decorations in those films are out of this world, cant say the same for the acting.

clary · 23/11/2020 21:29

I'd never heard of this so I googled Christmas door bows, oh my eyes!

These are not nice. Also yy a total pain for postal workers, newspaper deliverers, if anyone else who puts things through doors (leaflets, local mags). Why would you?

TheRubyRedshoes · 23/11/2020 23:49

Door arch, that's what it actually is, isn't it.

Ready made, tweaked for the client then shoved around the door.

Ginandplatonic · 24/11/2020 00:09

I find all this paying someone to put up hideous, tacky - er I mean perfectly coordinated decorations for you a bit sad. My kids get such joy from decoration the tree and house, even now as teenagers. OK, it looks like a complete dog’s breakfast, and I have to bite my tongue every year as their decorating aesthetic differs slightly from mine let’s say. But it makes them happy, and I can stand it for a few weeks. Where’s the Christmas spirit in all this competitive decorating??

Choccorocco · 24/11/2020 07:51

Live and let live! So what if people have different tastes? I think it’s nice that people are making an effort to cheer up their neighbourhoods Smile

Stopitwiththefireworks · 24/11/2020 07:56

I passed a door with a red bow.
Didn’t realise it was a Christmas thing (given it was mid-November)
Assumed they were BNP supporters or pro-Brexit Grin

CottonSock · 24/11/2020 07:57

There seems to be a different new thing every year. Wasteful for the environment in my opinion. I'm not a fan of early trees, eve boxes or the elf either..and our advent calendar will be £1 chocolate ones not an expensive fancy one my kids are asking for. Bah humbug

MrPanks · 24/11/2020 08:08

If I had the money I'd pay someone to do all the decs and make it look all coordinated etc, I think it's a fabulous idea.some people have a brilliant eye for it. Why not, if you can afford it?!

Fleshlumpeater · 24/11/2020 14:35

I know the girl who does Stacey Solomon’s door. Jonathan Ross has just had his done too. Her instagram is full of fabulous houses. I agree it would look strange and ott on normal houses

Masssivefuckup · 24/11/2020 14:37

@DerbyshireMama

Is this something for the grey crushed velvet brigade?
This was my thought too yes I am a massive snob
SuperbGorgonzola · 24/11/2020 14:40

Crikey

I hate the Christmas decorations palaver, so I would actually love to go out for the day, come back and someone to have done it really well, but those pictures are a bit Confused

Summerstorms · 24/11/2020 14:50

Why is mumsnet always so down on anything that might make people a little bit happy?

Nonamesavail · 24/11/2020 15:05

@Summerstorms

Why is mumsnet always so down on anything that might make people a little bit happy?
I think because its mostly done for show.
Whoopsmahoot · 24/11/2020 15:06

FFS 🙄 some people have too much money

chunkyrun · 24/11/2020 15:07

We've got my kids Christmas artwork in the windows...
