Really Neros love it. Also love Christmas with the Kranks, Santa Clause, Grinch, A Christmas Carol etc. Watched a little bit of Christmas Wedding Planner last night but not too impressed.

NerosFiddle · 17/11/2020 13:07

Woolly that's the one. Fluffy someone on the thread said this is a problem that only occurs on MN not IRL.

I actually think the site is full of people who exaggerate their lives or add embellishments lies about things that have happened / they've done. Not a clue what they get out of it. But, then, look at the huge number of PBPs and trolls this thread gets! 🤷‍♀️

Mumsnet in the main certainly isn't like my real life!

pussycatinboots · 17/11/2020 14:03

fluffy my life is much less interesting IRL. Xmas Grin

CrazyBaubles · 17/11/2020 14:53

One of my fave MN games is to read threads on AIBU and guess how many posts before someone completely missed the point (especially if 'light hearted' is in the title) or the words unacceptable and furious are used 😂
I'm also always amused by the posts where someone one poster is worried about surviving when they 'only' earn £80k per year and others post about how they were fine earning £10k etc etc.

Always lots of embellishments going on and I don't understand it's - it's ok to be boring!

With cards, I buy a nice one for my parents and MIL. Everyone else gets multipack cards - but I do have a bit of a system where the niceness of the card you receive is based on how much I like you Xmas Blush I always buy a nice set or 2 but never enough cards for everyone because I still have a box of 2 of cards I don't like that I'm working through.

TheWoollybacksWife · 17/11/2020 15:03

Crazy you and I are so alike 😂😂😂 I have a hierarchy of multi pack cards. I also send my brother and sister (twins) the same card as they live near each other and might compare "niceness" of cards. Not a problem this year 😢

NerosFiddle · 17/11/2020 16:01

Crazy it's the infamous mn chicken that gets me. There is no way in hell someone is feeding a family of 7 lunch and dinner for a week on a £2 chicken from Aldi. But yip the "I earn 6 figures but can't afford a tin of value beans."

NerosFiddle · 17/11/2020 16:02

I buy Macmillan cards every year. They're a multipack but nice and for a good cause.

pussycatinboots · 17/11/2020 16:16

Woolly make sure if you do a family zoom you ask them if they got your card...then they'll know! Xmas Grin

The indignant stance of some posters can be quite funny...and the flounces, I love a good flounce! Xmas Wink

CrazyBaubles · 17/11/2020 16:37

Woolly 😂 I always give DHs stepmum's family cards from the same pack because I'm 99.9% sure they compare (not the cousins which are our generation but aunties and uncles definitely do).
This year I have some Highland Coo cards that I'm looking forward to sending but I only got 10.

I also choose and write DHs class cards which I enjoy - they're always childish, funny cards and I'm deliberately scruffy because his writing is awful.

Neros money is funny on here isn't it? Also enjoy the 'how much do you save' threads - poster 1 'I save my full £2k per month salary. I wouldn't sleep if our savings dipped below £50k.'
Poster 2 - I try and save £10 per month but I don't always manage it.
Then bun fight about those who live in a different world (poster 1) and those who just need to tighten their belts and stop being irresponsible (poster 2). Bloody ridiculous.

puss I love it when the OP flounces, or even better, has a little rant about 'vipers' and "I was asking for help, you're all so mean, I won't post again" etc etc. Especially when it's an AIBU and they've been told by everytime that they're unreasonable.

I don't get trolls on mn. What is the point?? I literally can't think of a single gain to be made by coming on here and lying.

NoWordForFluffy · 17/11/2020 16:49

Oh yes, flouncing, announced with 'I'm not flouncing but I am' Can't beat it.

I feel I should get in on the passive aggressive card sending! Xmas Grin

Crazy, I've no clue re the trolls / embellishers / exaggeraters. I can spot them a mile off though (years' experience of assessing clients' credibility)!

My family LOVE a card. We get Christmas, birthday, anniversary and Easter cards. I rarely send them but got a special one for my grandparents this year. I'll send a card from a multi pack to the people I won't see (other grandparents and godparents plus great aunt) but that's it.

MarshmallowManiac · 17/11/2020 16:53

I always buy some nice ones for the close family and friends but then other people gets boxed cards. Do usually get some charity ones and some ordinary ones too.

Those threads make me laugh too Neros

FireflyGirl · 17/11/2020 19:14

My dad is the only person bothered about cards in my immediate family.

They may be getting generic cards this year, as I can't get to a shop, have put all my crafting stuff in the loft out of the way as we're now using the spare room as a home office, and resent paying funkypigeon/moonpig prices for something that will just get thrown away.

BiddyPop · 17/11/2020 19:16

I’m going to go for a walk in the dark and wind to get out of my head ....although I also have to ring DM back so that may mean I come back in even worse form🤣

CrazyBaubles · 17/11/2020 19:36

Tough day Biddy? I hope the walk helps (my lunchtime rainy walks with the dog are massively helping me).

Fluffy passive aggressive Christmas cards are funny and keeps me entertained.

I've not tested it Wreck but I'm pretty sure my mum would be a bit upset if I gave her a generic multipack card 🙄. I give my parents a 'mum and dad' card because she displays cards for weeks and I like getting MIL a nice mum card because she gets so few that really appreciates it - I feel like they need to be fair (there's a clear flaw in this logic though because FIL gets a multipack card) 😂

I've done some washing, tidied kitchen and am now logging back on for an hour. My dentist has moved my appointment up to tomorrow so I'm losing work time and I have a deadline on Thursday.

MarshmallowManiac · 17/11/2020 19:41

DH is going round the shop to get chocolate for I'm a Celeb YAYY easily pleased Grin

Enjoy your walk Biddy hope it makes you feel better. Love a walk as feel it clears your head.

TheWoollybacksWife · 17/11/2020 19:51

Enjoy your walk Biddy

I picked up some sugar craft poinsettias from a local cake decorating shop today and I've ordered some ribbon from eBay to finish off my little Christmas cakes. I'm going to have to post MIL's so I don't know whether to ice it in fondant which might get a bit squished in transit or royal which might crumble. Any opinions?

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 17/11/2020 20:16

Woolly I would go for the Royal Icing as I think it might travel slightly better. I had to smile to myself going round the roundabout near your house on my way to work this evening as I realise I am imaging myself waving at you as I go round 🤣 Several houses have put Christmas lights today, I saw about four or five on my way here.

BiddyPop · 17/11/2020 21:17

Yes, particularly bad day but windy night helped clear some cobwebs. Followed by entire family watching bake-off together.

NoWordForFluffy · 18/11/2020 05:30

Morning. Awake early. Joy!

I hope today is better for you, Biddy!

I think royal icing too, Woolly. And then wrapped in grease proof paper, bubble wrap and put into a small box which is filled with cake / bubble wrap (so it's wedged in) and then into another box. That will keep it as safe as possible for transport, I think.

OP posts:
NoWordForFluffy · 18/11/2020 05:33

Oh, and every year I'm bemused by the 'it's too early to even think about Christmas' brigade I see. Who appear to view planning for Christmas as a personality failure!

I bet they plan for birthdays and other events with more than 37 days to go!

I mean, do it when you like, but planning for it isn't a failing!

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 18/11/2020 07:13

Morning. Wfh.

I agree, those who don't plan it seem to think it makes them better than those who do. I suppose if money was no object I wouldn't buy so early (it's hard storing it all) but even Christmas visits have to be booked in the summer. If I go on holiday I start planning it from the moment I book it Grin it's nice to have something to look forward to.

I've got a meeting today on teams and quite a bit of work to do.

pussycatinboots · 18/11/2020 07:17

Morning.
Bloody neighbours.
Noisy Asda delivery at 11 just as I had nodded off woke me up, then as I'm nodding off again he brings out all the bloody packaging and makes as much noise as possible stuffing it in his already full recycling bin. Tosser.🤬
That's better.
And the It's too early hypocrites who buy their cards and paper in the sale the year before? I know where I'd like to shove it.
Fail to plan, plan to fail. It's not even something that's going to be cancelled or where the date moves FGS.🤷🏻‍♀️
I might be a bit tetchy this morning.
If he didn't have a bloody ring doorbell I'd ring it to wake the binny fucker and run off!😂

NoWordForFluffy · 18/11/2020 07:34

Loud John next door is a binny fucker. Always at 11pm. Knob.

I'm permanently tetchy, I think. It's my resting state of mind!
