One thing I love at Christmas is hearing what very young children are asking for. Those little people who's imaginations know no boundaries.

Some of the most memorable I've heard are a real live hippopotamus like at the zoo, a guitar with a stick it took the parents a bit of effort to twig the meant a violin, a pink duck, and a red wheelbarrow.

What funny things have you heard of little kids asking for?

Miss 4 was adamant she wanted a feather mattress topper. I kept checking, never changed her mind, almost 10 years later she’s still using it!

Imsayingnothing · 11/11/2020 19:02

@meringue33 thank you so much I will look into that for her. I did say I don't think father Christmas brings real animals, that's when she said ok maybe I'll accept a fake one if that's true!

twinkletoesimnot · 11/11/2020 19:12

Last year my youngest asked for an upstairs

(We live in a bungalow Grin)

Widdendream77 · 11/11/2020 19:55

@ Imsayingnothing I do like those rubbery snails but honestly the giant land snails have been the easiest pets ever and very entertaining and shortish life span so all good. Several of dds school friends have been set up with babies from our initial pair and if you would like a couple do let me know GrinGrin

Chrestomanci3 · 11/11/2020 20:05

When dc2 was 3, he asked for a bone. That was the year he wanted to be a puppy. He got a dog toy in the shape of a bone and was very happy!

caringcarer · 11/11/2020 20:43

When he was 5 ds asked for his eyes to work so he did not have to wear glasses.

carryme · 11/11/2020 20:50

My ds when he was 4 asked for a shoe horn 🙈 we got him one and he still uses it everyday (he's now 11)

GhostOfChristmasPudding · 11/11/2020 22:34

DS (3.5) asked for ‘a real brown and black steam train I can sit in with coupling rods and a tender’. He is obsessed with trains, and the fact our garden has no tracks or room is irrelevant. Apparently Santa can get those too. 😂

AdditionalCharacter · 11/11/2020 22:40

When my youngest was in reception, he asked for one of those shiny silver rings you hang towels from. He got one, and it used to be next to his bed for his favourite blanket, but now he's older it's on the back of his door holding his dressing gown.

BillyAndTheSillies · 11/11/2020 22:43

4yo DS this evening has asked for a rubber chicken and house plants. But definitely not a cactus.

Pumpkinstace · 11/11/2020 23:01

My 7 year old today...

'Why do you keep asking me about my list? You're being nosy, it's just between me and Santa. '

CaptainCarp · 11/11/2020 23:04

These are brilliant luckily for us DSS 6 is fairly easy & asked for a crane there was a slight worry of dissapointment when he mentioned wanting to sit in it.

With some gentle questioning we gathered he meant a full size one like we'd seen recently but we told him he'd have to be a bit older to go in one of those! So he said he'd be happy with a remote control one in that case.

My DN asked for broccoli on their one Christmas list as it was their favourite food at the time.

SummerTimeSunshine · 11/11/2020 23:10

Nine year old wants a recliner chair, mobility scooter and a chair lift thing for the stairs.

I can’t fathom why. He’s not disabled. He’s also extremely active. When u qyeroec these requests he said he’s seen the adverts and they “make life easier”. LOL

@Widdendream77 I have GALS and they should live 10+ years if cared for correctly.

BeaMends · 12/11/2020 00:19

When I was small I wanted a bus. A real double-decker life-sized London red bus.

mam0918 · 12/11/2020 11:51

@BillyAndTheSillies

our DS got a rubber chicken years ago, it was a silly little last minute gift, its still a popular toy any time they find it (but bloody annoying, they have a squeeker in and scream when pressed).

There school had one show up aswell, teachers would hide it on a high shelf in the sports cupboard but kids would find a way to get it and they all went crazy for it... that high pitch wail they let out will drive anyone nuts.

FeelingSmurfy · 25/11/2020 00:23

Shoes for Sophie, only problem was that was her imaginary friend! 😂

This was my friends daughter and what they ended up doing was wrapping an empty shoebox Xmas Grin and wouldn't you know it, Sophie got the exact same shoes as the little girl already had Xmas Wink

*I have shared this before, it was a few years ago now

2gorgeousboys · 25/11/2020 08:57

DS2 has over the years asked for brussel sprouts, a towel with his name on, an electric pencil sharpener and a baby sister.

Father Christmas has managed to provide all except the baby sister!

When he was 9 he refused to share his list with us so we'd get a surprise Christmas morning too, thankfully DS1 was roped in to help extract the information from him.

calllaaalllaaammma · 25/11/2020 09:37

My son said he'd put a new car on the list for me because I couldn't afford one.

LookMoreCloselier · 25/11/2020 10:17

2 yo ds asked for a spooky spoon book (numberjacks) and a cake.
1 yo ds asked for biscuits. And the following year a big chocolate santa.

I love how unmaterialistic they were then. Now its ps5 and phone etc.

ThatDamnScientist · 25/11/2020 10:23

Oh some of these are hilarious!

My youngest (5) has asked for a pink bin with a lid and with pink hearts on it for her bedroom from Santa. (Also a packet of sour cream pringles off me, a photo of Daddy in a pink frame from Daddy and a santa hat and 96 crayons off her sister!)

Frogshoe · 25/11/2020 11:53

My DS who is five has asked for a real blue tit and a bird box for his bedroom. I have got him a bird box but only a toy plush blue tit Grin

walkwalk · 25/11/2020 13:21

DD2 has dictated her list to me:

Dinosaur
Chocolate
Dots (??!)
Special bear
Glasses like mummy

All manageable I guess!
