One thing I love at Christmas is hearing what very young children are asking for. Those little people who's imaginations know no boundaries.

Some of the most memorable I've heard are a real live hippopotamus like at the zoo, a guitar with a stick it took the parents a bit of effort to twig the meant a violin, a pink duck, and a red wheelbarrow.

What funny things have you heard of little kids asking for?

I’ve actually laughed out loud at these requests Halloween Grin

My niece (last week when I asked DSis what she thinks they would like) said a mud puddle and Babybells. She’s 2.

One of the girls in my class was so excited to tell her friends today about a pink pencil sharpener she had seen at the shops and she was putting it in her Christmas list because the shops were now closed.

Furry trousers, I love it!

APipkinOfPepper · 09/11/2020 18:38

Not so small anymore, I think testing if Santa is real, but DD has asked for something to stop her and her brother arguing!

pollywollydoodler · 09/11/2020 18:46

My daughter aged 5 asked for 'a can of spisy beer to mine self and a crumpet with jam on the one side and sum butter on the uther ' for Xmas
She got them but didn't finish the ginger beer Smile

WitchesSpelleas · 09/11/2020 18:52

DS aged about 4 asked Santa for a lamp. Santa then asks, "a magic lamp like in alladin?" "no" replies DS, just a lamp like from argos"

Grin Your DS is brilliant!

mam0918 · 09/11/2020 18:56

@VioletSunset

My 6 year old won't tell me what she wants off santa, because it will ruin the surprise Hmm let's just hope santa gets it right
that was totally me as a child - I loved keeping secrets, everything must be a suprise for everyone (Im still kind of like that now lol).
letsgomaths · 09/11/2020 19:10

@WaxOnFeckOff I love the snooker referee's gloves - very classy!

I know an 8-year-old who requested "something really big, so my parents cover my eyes and take me to it". (Her friend had received a bike the previous year, and was blindfolded before a big reveal.)

babypossum · 09/11/2020 19:20

@Christmasbiscuit

My 8yo has put "toy potato" on his list. Think he's trying to test if Santa is real!
Could that be Mr Potato Head?
DuzzyFuck · 09/11/2020 19:27

@Christmasbiscuit Or the stuffed one that Matt Lucas had produced during the first lockdown?

Thank you Baked Potato....

Last year DGS aged 2 said he wanted Halloween, I wonder if that was inspired by his Mum's favourite film, although he loves Halloween.

Imsayingnothing · 09/11/2020 19:30

For Christmas this year my daughter has asked for a penguin she says it can be real or fake!

NerosFiddle · 09/11/2020 19:33

My ds and dd (2&3) asked for a cup of tea and a biscuit last year.

Widdendream77 · 09/11/2020 19:34

My dd asked for a snail for Christmas aged 3 so we got her two giant African land snails which were amazing and we still have their offspring four years laterSmile

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/11/2020 00:13

At 3 my Gdd asked for ‘a real baby, boy or girl’.

She did get one a bit late - shortly after the following Christmas.

timeisnotaline · 10/11/2020 00:37

Aww these are great. The white gloves to clean snooker balls Grin
We mostly don’t ask ours so we can just get them things we think they’d really enjoy until they are old enough to properly want things but nursery asked my dc1 when he was 3. He wanted a big yellow car for him and a big white beard like Father Christmas for his 4mo brother... I ended up finding a book second hand where Santa’s beard is removable and tries out other places before coming back to Santa. Nailed it

Cattenberg · 10/11/2020 00:51

DD (2) used to want a sledgehammer like her Granddad’s, but has luckily forgotten about this. She has actually asked for oranges and hair clips in her stocking. Nothing else. I think Father Christmas might manage that.

My friend’s 4-year-old DS wants “a real chainsaw” for Christmas and has told his friends he’s getting one. His friends think this is very cool.

Bikingbear · 10/11/2020 00:51

@NerosFiddle

My ds and dd (2&3) asked for a cup of tea and a biscuit last year.
And did Mr Claus manage to deliver warm tea and biscuits???Grin

Some one mentioned kid hiding the list. My friends son was testing Santa and refused to let mum see the list. She hunted his room while he was at school, found the list and was a very smug mum on Christmas morningSmile

Some of these are so so funny. I really thank everyone for sharing.

Ds (3) wants a strimmer and a can of petrol to go in it - not a toy one, a real one, he's very specific.

burglarbettybaby · 10/11/2020 01:05

Our nearly 6 year old wants a shrinking machine (to shrink everyone)
Grin

BrokenNotDead · 10/11/2020 01:11

@mrsswayze You should get him 1 of these www.amazon.co.uk/Hasbro-Yellies-Flufferpuff-Voice-Activated-Spider/dp/B07FMCX3V8?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

BrokenNotDead · 10/11/2020 01:17

@Cattenberg and @RonaRossi they sound like my daughters! 1 wants a toy box like mummy's (it's a huge red mechanic's tool chest and drawers 🤦‍♀️) and the other 1 wants an axe and a bigger axe 🤣

BrokenNotDead · 10/11/2020 01:19

This was the 1st list my son wrote on his own 🤣 he's still as obsessed with shoes now!

Funny Santa requests from young children.
mrsswayze · 10/11/2020 01:32

Brokenotdead that was indeed what I bought him a green one

Graphista · 10/11/2020 02:12

Ones I've been asked for/heard of include:

A cloud

A pink dinosaur - not a toy one a real one!

A brain that can spell Sad

"Working" balloons - they meant ones that were already inflated! Parents happy to oblige with a large box of inflated balloons much to child's delight. Parents videoed both hilarious and totally heartwarming! Chlld really couldn't have cared less what else they got that year they were just so delighted to get the balloons!

@Parkermumma07 One year my dd asked for parsnips! Apparently we weren't having them often enough for her liking

A dn asked for a bag of frozen peas to be just theirs! Set aside for their frequent bumps and bruises (takes after his dad my bro too much! Adrenaline junkie! Why ride a bike normally when you can stunt jump over your brother using a makeshift ramp?!). Parents obliged with a labelled pack of birds eye peas! Didn't matter they defrosted a little as weren't going to be eaten

Rainbow farts Grin
A chainsaw Grin I can absolutely see certain of my dn's asking for something like that!

but DD has asked for something to stop her and her brother arguing!

I'm afraid what came to my mind upon reading that was the pic attached and Morgan Freeman's version of god in Evan almighty -

If someone prayed for the family to be closer, do you think God zaps them with warm fuzzy feelings, or does he give them opportunities to love each other?

I know...like that'll work! Grin

Rachellow · 10/11/2020 02:12

Not quite the same but we’ve had some great presents chosen from my much younger little brother. When he was 3 he really wanted to get his dad some green string so he could see in the dark. Black string was too scary apparently. The next year he got me a wooden mushroom found at a craft fair it is my fav veg but I wasn’t aware my love was that obvious haha. His Santa list only had a chocolate orange and carrots (for the toy bunny) and he got quite upset actually when it was suggested he might want more. This was also the child who wanted to be a spider when he grew up for years.

Graphista · 10/11/2020 02:13

D'oh forgot pic rookie error
