Anyone else waiting to hear? Completely see the point of wanting to reduce footfall but will be pretty disappointed if we can't use the scheme this year. This year is getting on my nerves now!

Can you use the vouchers immediately after claiming them in the app? There's some specific things I'm looking for and want to check they're in stock in our branch before I swap the points

AuntieMarys · 08/11/2020 21:14

I'm planning to use mine on Wednesday as part of my normal shop there....spending it on wine as we always do. Think we have £100.

Ikeameatballs · 08/11/2020 21:14

I have over £100 worth of Nectar points but I can only convert £50 worth.

Going to do it on the app on Weds. Do you have to specify the categories again or not, I can’t remember how it worked last year.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/11/2020 21:22

No, no specifying. Just the max of £50 converted to £100 on each card.

Yes, last year I went round scanning the things with the smartshop app until I'd reached the limit then converted the points on the Nectar app and scanned the vouchers on the app at the till.
Blankiefan · 08/11/2020 21:29

Can you use them in Argos?

NoWordForFluffy · 08/11/2020 21:30

No, you can't use them in Argos.

Thimbleberries · 08/11/2020 21:33

Any recommendations for the Taste the Difference wines? That's about the only thing that I'd be likely to buy from that list of categories I think.

buckeejit · 08/11/2020 21:40

Thimbles - red or white? The TTD range is generally fab. I have a great wee book about best wines in the supermarket-will find it

buckeejit · 08/11/2020 21:47

@Thimbleberries try this site

http://www.bestwinesinthesupermarket.uk/members/WineSearch.aspx

I like the French SB, the Cremant de Loire is great & the SA Pinotage, Barbera d'asti, st chinian & Chateaux Boyess? Are all the ones I'll be stocking up on

NoWordForFluffy · 08/11/2020 21:53

I enjoyed the Gewurtztraminer last year. The New World stuff tends to be good, I find.

Thimbleberries · 08/11/2020 22:12

thanks!

myhobbyisouting · 08/11/2020 22:48

It'll go ahead, it's only days away and people have exchanged vouchers now. Too much of a headache to cancel it.

I'm going for wine and sparkling wine, books for me and as gifts, some new crockery, pyjamas for the kids, birthday gifts for December birthdays, a home fragrance I buy every year, a new decoration (again, every year) and anything I fancy clothing wise Grin

EasilyDepleted · 08/11/2020 22:56

Tip for finding the TTD wines in amongst all the others on the shelves - they usually all have purple neck labels.

I'm going for wine, fairylights, books, knickers, socks and I will look at kitchen stuff but I really don't think there's anything we haven't already got from previous years. One year I ended up using it on printer cartridges.

onelittleclara · 08/11/2020 23:14

I normally do books, games and houseware but our branch has a separate floor for these and it’s now had to close this off for the new rules state it can only sell them on the same floor as the essential stuff. Seems very unfair some people get to use them and others will not, unless they want alcohol.

Bikingbear · 08/11/2020 23:15

I never thought about the shops being restricted in England. Are they like Wales not allowed to buy 'non-essential' or is it more like the first lockdown?

If it's more like the first one that if the shop can open, then all stuff can be sold. I can't see them changing it.

myhobbyisouting · 09/11/2020 04:23

@EasilyDepleted thank you! I have never thought to buy printer cartridges and we need some

Raindancer411 · 09/11/2020 04:38

@Blankiefan You can use nectar points in general in Argos, but not doubled up ones.

I cannot take part this year as our local store is being done up. They have split the normal groceries from the toys/games and clothes. As of the local down they have it in a separate unit so have had to close it for the lockdown Confused

TheDrsDocMartens · 09/11/2020 05:51

Our nearest is an hour away. I’d have gone and done other shops normally but not bothering this time.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/11/2020 08:14

I think it's a bit sneaky that the closing of some non-essential areas has been done by stealth. Apparently it's in the government guidelines that if it is in a totally separate area - like an upstairs - then it should be closed off. You notice that the government didn't actually announce it though (because they saw the reaction in Wales, no doubt).

I'm going to Liverpool to spend my points as my local Sainsbury's has absolutely bugger all in any category other than wine as it's tiny.

Thegirlhasnoname · 09/11/2020 08:34

The response by nectar on Twitter whenever somebody asks if it is still going ahead, despite the lockdown guidelines saying only go shopping for essential items is that it’s going ahead in store and they’d encourage customers to use the nectar app for more flexibility

It would make much more sense for them to open it to in store or online in my opinion

...but I haven’t set foot in a physical supermarket since January and would specifically be going into store to spend the double up vouchers on baby clothes so perhaps my view is a little skewed!

Blankiefan · 09/11/2020 10:03

Does anyone's app have an error message on it about Double Up? When you log into mine it says "DOUBLE UP - Uh oh, something's gone wrong. Please contact our customer carline on XXX and we'll have this sorted in no time."

I've just sat on hold for 10 minutes to talk to someone who told me to uninstall and reinstall the app (which I did and made no difference) who then said I was getting that screen as the vouchers aren't available until 11th Nov. I explained that I hadn't requested a voucher and that it was just on the home screen of the app. He tried to suggest it was normal and would sort itself out on 11th.

I'm assuming that's BS and that I'll be sitting on hold again for half the morning on 11th trying to get it sorted out.

Or does everyone have the same error message and I'm just being precious?

NoWordForFluffy · 09/11/2020 10:10

I'd think it's as they said: you can't get vouchers until 11th.

I have it on the app, but can only get info about categories. No error message though.

Inspirationpending · 09/11/2020 10:12

I’m hoping it still goes ahead
Got the maximum amount to spend.

Surely Sainsbury’s can put a queuing system in place if footfall is too high. Hoping people will be sensible about it as it’s on for a few days

duckduckswan · 09/11/2020 10:26

Can you use the vouchers for click and collect does anyone know?
