Just that really, inspired by posters on the bargain thread talking about craft paper and ribbon.
Has anyone started wrapping yet? If so, please can we have some pics!

I like to get up very early in the morning in December, put all the Christmas lights on and make a big pot of Christmas coffee. Sit down by the tree, with a mince pie, pop on a Christmas film, and start the wrapping.

No theme, apart from DH and DD, all family presents go into individual sacks.

This year, I've got brown Kraft paper with red and green ink and stampers, and as a half-term activity, I'll let DD do some decorating. Then, we'll use her paper for her friends, and the presents she's made/picked for her GPs.

I've started! I usually wait but this year all I'm doing in December is drinking baileys and eating Christmas stuff

Vebrithien · 22/10/2020 18:47

@SuperFairy

I haven’t started wrapping yet but if anyone spots any bright jewel coloured paper please can they post here! Bright purples, pinks, teals and lime greens are what I’m after! I’ve spotted one pack that sort of meets the brief online at Next so far.
I saw these sorts of colours in a M&S outlet last week. All 1/2 price a roll, assumes this meant they were last year's colours. Could be worth looking?
MyHouse2011 · 22/10/2020 18:53

This is totally outing. I’ve made these gift tags, they’re going to be fired in our kiln then I’ll glaze them white with red or gold on the words and then re-fire them.

The Works had a nice range of navy blue based papers here

Ooh thank you @Vebrithien 👍

didireallysaythat · 22/10/2020 20:00

I'm in. I want to use brown paper - I'm fed up of buying paper I can't recycle. I've also got a load of ribbon from my flower subscription packaging I want to reuse.

Can anyone point me to big rolls of brown paper online?

PinkDaydreams · 22/10/2020 20:06

@didireallysaythat there was a poster on the bargain thread that bought a massive roll off Amazon, it was only cheap but I can't remember exact price sorry.
@MyHouse2011 your home made tags are beautiful! I wish I was creative, I haven't got any patience at all!

@SuperFairy I've had those colours from the card factory in the past, maybe worth a nosey if you have one near?

Here's a fabric bag I made, with a felt letter G so I remember who it's for!

And pics I found off Google of cute ways to wrap with brown paper.

I have made Christmas drawstring bags in various sizes - made them in about April, from palm of you hand size to about 3ftx5ft!

elQuintoConyo · 22/10/2020 21:24

FFS the Google pucsvfidnt attach and I lost half my message Hmm

I googled 'wrapping paper brown christmas' and found lots of lovely ideas with printing, different ribbon designs/styles etc

elQuintoConyo · 22/10/2020 21:26

Same, binary made them 10+ years ago still going strong.

I give gifts in fabric to people I see in person do I get the wrappings back : I've made birylthdsy ones, too. But for presents sent abroad or for children, I use paper, more fun for them to rip.

DC love seeing the bags every year, "this one had my trainset in last year.... I remember this from my Switch!" etc. It's joyful.

Risingsuntheearth · 23/10/2020 02:28

@MyHouse2011

I was thinking about making those with air drying clay. Unfortunately I don’t have a kiln.
I haven’t bought the presents yet but I always get very excited about wrapping. I have in the past put edible candy canes on presents.

Fueledwithfairydustandgin · 23/10/2020 06:56

I tried to make tags like that a few years ago. I can’t remember what I used. I don’t think it was salt dough but something similar but then I over browned them in the Aga 🙄 I might try again. They looked nowhere near as good as the poster above.

CamdenLurker · 24/10/2020 08:15

Take a look at Rhiannon Ashlee vlogs on YouTube for fantastic Christmas wrapping ideas, I stumbled across them a few years back and now me and dd1 get excited for them every Christmas.

Yay I love wrapping jumping on here, last night I ordered some gift bags for the kids presents and I cant wait for them to come just very cheap bags so I can hand stuff off. I will try and find a pic of last years wrapping of my bottles.

We have wooden stamps and the kids stamp on plain brown paper then I use a different ribbon for each person. But all within a colour pallet.

Dh would go mad if we used foiled opera as it doesn’t recycle.

2020hello · 24/10/2020 10:10

Thank you @PinkDaydreams

pinkksugarmouse · 24/10/2020 12:02

I have very few people to buy for and as DD will be 18 she will get fewer presents than when she was much younger so very little wrapping. I have always avoided glitter paper but this year will try the brown paper and string with maybe some foliage.
I wouldnt want to wrap too early. It would be weird to wrap Christmas presents before the tree is up. 🎄

N0ManJan · 24/10/2020 12:09

I’m doing brown parcel paper with string and threading dried orange slices and maybe some foliage through. I’m considering getting some fancy ribbon from The White Company for some so they look a bit different. It’s DS first Christmas but he’ll only be 7 months so not sure I’ll wrap his things, but I do tend to get carried away so we’ll see!
