Thread 10 - the one where everyone starts writing the bargain info *in bold*

999 replies

Reastie · 03/10/2020 12:04

NEW INFO PLZ READ
**please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

@Sneezein3s I think there’s a 15% discount for signing up to their emails. If you are already signed up I expect your dh/dp/brother etc will want to buy it!!

@Cherryrainbow congratulations. Newborn snuggles are the best.

JustanotherTuesday · 04/10/2020 15:46

@NoWordForFluffy Thanks, I've tried googling but I cannot find any codes. The tree I like is already £20 cheaper from there than The Range, so I am saving, just I would like to get even more of a bargain Smile

newnamesameold · 04/10/2020 15:53

Matalan 5 off 25 online code SMED5-5RV-00PEFX-ACE

Matalan 15 off 75 online code SMED15-5SW-00J8UB-2E4

NoWordForFluffy · 04/10/2020 15:54

I bought in 2017 with WELCOME2017, so might be worth trying variations!

Have you checked their Amazon / eBay listings to see if they're cheaper?

JustanotherTuesday · 04/10/2020 16:05

Thanks. Yes I tried that with 2020 and no luck. Looked on eBay and Amazon and neither stock that tree, I'll probably order it and then they'll do a code.

Sneezein3s · 04/10/2020 16:06

@VividImagination that’s exactly what I planned to do, but checked amazon at the last minute and it was cheaper on there. Thanks for the help

EvilHerbivore · 04/10/2020 16:15

@Cherryrainbow congratulations

Anydreamwilldo12 · 04/10/2020 16:23

@Luxplus Shock
@Cherryrainbow congratulations!

I’ve been looking tidying and now have a dedicated present cupboard and a stack of cardboard boxes to go out for recycling.

sorryiasked · 04/10/2020 16:37

sweaty betty sale, says up to 50% of but actually quite a lot with a higher discount here

TheSeedsOfADream · 04/10/2020 16:45

@Cherryrainbow

Going to get myself a cuppa tea, go through the smyths catalogue and catch up on the bargain threads this evening :D

Had my baby girl on Tuesday night :D Left hospital Friday, still feeling like I've been hit by a bus but its nice to be home with the family and get used to a new normal x

Congratulations Cherry and family and how lovely we are keeping up the Bargain Thread Baby tradition! Brew
Lockdownhairdontcare · 04/10/2020 16:49

@Yeknom localH&M has a tunic and leggings set around £10. Got DN it as she wanted pyjamas but none available, so soft and lovely for price.

Raindropsonrosesand · 04/10/2020 16:52

@Sneezein3s - DD likes real tea in her tea set too Smile She has this one which is bigger than the tiny ones, although the teapot and milk jug are still too small: you have to keep refilling in the kitchen which is a pain. Cup and plate sizes are OK.

An actual tea set would be a better size, but it's nice being able to unpack the set from the basket and lay it out. Not sure how she would store a real set.

Cloud1921 · 04/10/2020 16:53

@PinkDaydreams we went to our local food bank, who are amazing, locally run not part of any big charity. We just told them that we wanted to help a family have a nice Christmas, and asked if they had anyone they thought we could help.

We made it clear we didn't want them to know who we are. They immediately told us about this family, so we agreed to put together a lovely parcel of food and presents. The dad goes to the food bank every week and the staff there are going to ask him to make sure he comes on 23rd December at a certain time. This way we can get him fresh meat etc aren't constricted to tins etc.

So far we have all the normal sweets and treats we would have at Xmas in the box, picked up the kids selection boxes in home bargains today. We are getting a game for them all to play, getting a full Xmas dinner for them. I also want to put in some fridge and store cupboard items as well as some toiletries.

A lovely poster earlier suggested buying a making toy, so for the 11 year old I've bought a STEM building kit from Tesco which was half price in their sale.

Need inspiration for the 7 and 13 year old. Thinking of getting dad some nice toiletries.

My family always club together ever Xmas to try and help some kind of cause, last year it was an elderly man on his own who had no food, electric etc. It was a local thing, and one of my friends helped him directly. We used to be very very poor, so now we are a bit better off we do try to help wherever we can.

I think my problem this year will be buying too much.

Sorry for the long ramble!

Raindropsonrosesand · 04/10/2020 16:54

I'd definitely get porcelain rather than melamine for a 6yo though. I think the delicate, 'real' look is what appeals, certainly to DD.

Yeknom · 04/10/2020 16:56

@Lockdownhairdontcare ahh thanks. I can't see it on the app. It still only has the pink tshirt she already owns and otherwise it's just ninjago. I'll try and pop into my local store in person

wizzie021 · 04/10/2020 17:05

Ethical Superstore are doing £10 off a £70 spend as well as free delivery atm.

It’s not the cheapest, for obvious reasons, but if you’re trying to get zero waste presents, little ethical stocking fillers, posh chocs or good quality clothes it’s very good.

I got my daughter a little whistle and a seed bomb for her stocking and a T-Shirt for DH, as well as some other bits and pieces. And a few bars of Divine Chocolate to me over the £70 Wink

BicycleMadeForTwo · 04/10/2020 17:07

@Cloud1921 What a lovely thing to do. We always buy extra toys to put in the local kids Christmas collection but I like the idea of helping the whole family. It’s definitely going to be a hard one this year for more people 🙁

recklessgran · 04/10/2020 17:12

Eeek @Luxplus didn't he know? Ha! Ha! another DH like mine whose ears are ornaments when it comes to Christmas........ I'd be eyeing up the patio!
Many, many congratulations @Cherryrainbow we all love a thread baby - I've lost track is baby cherry the first thread baby this year?

Fueledwithfairydustandgin · 04/10/2020 17:22

@lexloofah I’m not sure if it’s just an NE thing. Sorry not very helpful.

ClaraLane · 04/10/2020 17:31

Congratulations @Cherryrainbow - hope you feel more like yourself soon!

@recklessgran My threadbaby was 8 weeks old on Friday 😱

TheSeedsOfADream · 04/10/2020 17:32

@Cloud1921 Flowers what a lovely thing to do. That made me a bit teary and inspired me to think of doing something similar. Thank you.

Lands End sale
Now for today only 72% off sale items. There's not much left, but I got DD her new pyjamas which is a Christmas tradition. I got them from LE last year and they are good quality. 2 pairs, 1 jersey 1 flannel, should be £64 but got £36 with the sale plus the extra. You don't need a code but it's on the banner on the front page. Bits and bobs of gloves and scarves too. 6% cashback with Quidco.

CantStandMeow · 04/10/2020 17:42

Matalan codes available, £5 off £25 spend and £15 off £75 spend available PM me if you'd like it

Luxplus · 04/10/2020 17:44

@recklessgran ha ha yes he knew but thought given they all are bought on a discount it wasn't a big deal but the doll dd2 was still 45 pounds so not really cheap either. But on the positive side, they've been playing all day with the new toys and absolutely love it.
