Thanks @Anydreamwilldo12 for thread title

please read the thread is moving so fast atm and it’s pretty hard to keep up! I was just wondering on people’s thoughts on this so did a super quick questionnaire here . I’m not sure we’ll find a perfect answer to suit everyone but would love your feedback on if it’s an issue or not.

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

@fourquenelles that is GORGEOUS. Mine is no where near as fancy but I'm filling it with lovely miniature Star Trek figurines until my furniture arrives 😂😂

wibdib · 01/10/2020 17:52

Anyone thinking of buying stuff from Kano last year I bought ds a build your own laptop kit and it was half price over Black Friday. Can’t temember if it was Black Friday proper or Cyber Monday or generally around then, but I got it thanks to a tip off from these threads last year so they may hold a clue...

No idea if they will do the same this year as last year, but might be worth risking a wait if they don’t have big discounts yet...

PinkDaydreams · 01/10/2020 18:15

Has anyone seen any offers on train sets please? Brio (or any brand) type wooden ones I'm thinking of. I know supermarkets normally do their own brand. Had a nosey in tk maxx but they didn't have anything. Thank you!

Puffalicious · 01/10/2020 18:15

Thanks Metabilis I love BAM.

I got the ''Brio World Farm train set'' on offer from Amazon. It was 19.99 when I bought it, it's gone up to £25. Amazon reckons it's RRP of £70 which seems quite high to me but I thought it was a good buy for what I paid for it.
JinglesWish · 01/10/2020 18:25

@PinkDaydreams for train tracks, go to Ikea for the basic and expansion packs. Then go to John Lewis for special bits. Both really great quality and price. Last I bought my DC the JL train mountain, lifting bridge, station platform, train wash, train shed (see attached photo).

We have so much train track inc Brio (half gifted, half bought). I wouldn’t bother with Brio branding. Also, the sets you get from Argos etc include things like pointless wooden trees that don’t really feature in my boys’ play

JinglesWish · 01/10/2020 18:28

With photo. I think this train shed was £20. Really lovely quality and they use it for cars and dinosaurs when not playing trains

@thelegohooverer yes! Can't confess that to anyone in really life Xmas Grin

IggyAce · 01/10/2020 18:34

@PinkDaydreams recommend the IKEA wooden train track we brought it for DS when he was a train mad toddler, we still have it and it’s occasionally played with by ds or friends dcs and ds is nearly 10.

@wibdib I see a loo now too! 😂

Grrrpredictivetex · 01/10/2020 18:41

@Goldistheanswer

Thanks Grrrr that’s so kind of you but I’m not near London. I’m having a horrid day though and your kindness has bought a big smile to my face knowing there are kind people out there.
Glad you've had a smile. Maybe another family member can order for you or a friend nearby?

Can also vouch for this train shed - amazing quality at a great price!
@IveGotALovelyBunchOfCoconuts £49 - I bought direct from company. I don’t have Prime but also trying to spend money at other retailers then just Amazon this Christmas.
Thanks @MooseyMoo - I'm going to keep an eye on the Kano website too. I often use Amazon for price comparisons and to use CCC to help give me an idea if I might get something a bit cheaper, but definitely take your point about supporting other retailers! I feel less guilty if I use smile.amazon so that a charity benefits, but its nice to support smaller businesses when we can, especially now ☺️

Dreamingofwalden · 01/10/2020 19:08

@PinkDaydreams we have a real mix of train sets. A big box of mixed stuff I picked up on marketplace, some Brio, some IKEA, some Lidl.

Last year there were Brio sets and Bigjigs stuff reduced around Black Friday. I would buy some basic track from Ikea, Lidl etc and then some special additions from BigJigs, John Lewis or Brio.

The engine shed mentioned by @JinglesWishis a big hit in this house. We also have the farm set that @Shitfuckoh mentioned. I bought it for £40 from John Lewis. My son enjoys the magnetic bale element. When in TK Maxx have a look for Hape train sets - I bought a lovely starter one in there that still gets played with lots.

PinkDaydreams · 01/10/2020 19:20

Wow thank you for all of the suggestions, I'm really grateful for them Smile
Yes I'm finding that alot of the sets have pointless signs/lamp posts/trees etc that won't get played with. That train shed is perfect as my son likes opening and closing doors (awaiting an autism diagnosis).
I've had a look on eBay and it seems to hold its value well too. Thank you for the caution against brio, it's good to know that non branded is just as good.
Now to decide on what to get!

Does anyone else get a lovely feeling when you click on this thread and find 2 or 3 whole pages of bargains to read through...quickly followed by a mild panicky sensation that you might have missed out on an amazing time sensitive deal? I may be getting a little addicted Xmas Smile
Yes! Grin
1stTimeMama · 01/10/2020 19:24

@PinkDaydreams I get my sons train track from, randomly, a website called Pramworld. They have some good discounts on BigJigs, with an extra 5% off usually. They have a similar 3 engine shed as above, for £16.99.

zigzagbetty · 01/10/2020 19:39

@FrolickingLemon

Just had a CCC alert. Sanctuary hot cleanser back down to £2.99
Thanks for that just got 3 for presents Smile

thelegohooverer · 01/10/2020 19:48

It’s been a while since we played trains here and we had all kinds of tracks and I can’t remember which one had plastic connector pieces. I think it was Ikea but I had a look on their site and I’m not sure if they make it like that anymore. It was so useful though because you could take out with brute force a plastic piece or put one in to have a male-male or female-female piece when you needed one to connect a complicated loop. I was hoping to be able to say something useful like buy the Ikea stuff for that reason, but I don’t know if it was Ikea, or they’ve changed it. Might be worth keeping an eye out for the older stuff second hand if it has changed. I know you can also buy track connectors and adaptors but it was handy not to have to shuffle around the bottom of the box and just switch a piece quickly.

@PinkDaydreams if second hand is an option then Ebay/Facebook can be the place of bargains for sellers local to you if they're not willing to post.
