New thread again. Doesn't seem 5 minutes since the last one! 😂

How did you manage to miss Bake off Fluffy? We have been going on about it for a few days. The phone lines were down when I got to work but were not broken long enough for me to take advantage of.

pussycatinboots · 23/09/2020 06:28

I watched bake off 🤣🤣
You're in for a treat when you see it on catch-up, it didn't disappoint.

DH playing Grand Theft Duvet (and winning) and a sore jabbed arm means I've given up on sleep.

In other news - we have rain!

NoWordForFluffy · 23/09/2020 06:53

Morning!

We have rain too. I've opted for a 'rest day' rather than running. Which is actually sensible, so it's probably a good job!

Our Freeview signal has gone shit since we moved the TV to clean the carpet and we've no clue why. DH took all the aerial out and put it back in, to no avail. So I just went on autopilot to iPlayer where you can watch live without the signal ruining it. It just slipped my mind. I'll watch on catch up later.

We have rain as well Boots.

NoWordForFluffy · 23/09/2020 06:59

Oh, in other news after Boots scaring me about point theft I spent £100.00 in Nectar points last night on wine and snacks for Christmas! They have their 25% off 6 bottles going on, which is on top of some already discounted ones. Oyster Bay ends up at £6!

I have 11 bottles for us and 2 for DH's dad's birthday from the one in NZ (he sent money to DH to buy some NZ wine for him!). Plus enough snacks to fill the house. Xmas Grin

Well, I will when it's delivered next week, anyway!

I have £200.00 left now. Which I'm hoping to use £100.00 of when it's Double Up, if it happens.

OP posts:
pussycatinboots · 23/09/2020 07:03

Sorry about that. It's DH fault - but then the twat leaves his Nectar Card in the sun visor 🤦🏻‍♀️ I might just sneak it out next time he goes for a walk...

Is the TV aerial from a lead or a socket? If it's a lead, is it tucked under the carpet? There might be a join or a break if it's an old cable and the water has got into it or it might have become impaled on a gripper rod.

WreckTangled · 23/09/2020 07:06

Morning! We've had rain overnight and it's cloudy now. I watched bake off and am fully regretting all the shit that I ate. Never mind start again today. Ds loves football, all my stress for nothing obviously. Plus he got his new season kit so he's happy about that.

I'm actually in the office today which is a novelty. Had an awful meeting yesterday where we spent an hour going through how to do something that I can do with my eyes closed.

NoWordForFluffy · 23/09/2020 07:07

It comes through the wall, straight into the TV. And don't mention water in it, as we had it replaced last year due to that. DH might change the end to see if anything happens!

We don't leave ours lying round, but it's a fair number of points to lose, which we'd rather not risk!

NerosFiddle · 23/09/2020 08:10

Morning

Did you see the town in Wales that lost their internet because they turned off the tv?

Going for my flu jag today.

FireflyGirl · 23/09/2020 08:57

I saw that, Needs. Made me chuckle! Makes you wonder what they were watching at 7am every day!!

I've just seen that Terry's are doing a chocolate orange and cranberry bar. I'm not sure how I feel about that - orange is the only fruit flavour I tolerate with my chocolate!

FireflyGirl · 23/09/2020 08:59

Neros. Stupid auto correct!! I've just got a new phone, and it's more stealthy about changing my words!

NoWordForFluffy · 23/09/2020 09:03

Sounds about right, Neros! Sometimes turning it off and on again isn't the right thing to do! 😂😂

My jab is on Sunday. Followed by an eye test.

CrazyBaubles · 23/09/2020 09:12

Firefly did DS get off to school ok did he trip when you pushed him through the doors? 😂

Wreck I really feel for you with your DD. My sis is 2.5years younger than me and we were bloody hard work for a long time - and if one of us was being nice, the other probably wasn't. Not sure how my dm still likes us tbh!

Fluffy what is the veg challenge you mentioned?
Love the cheese cross stitch but I await your complaints about the many shades of yellow and brown Grin

puss I saw your post on the other thread about Grand Theft Duvet 😂

I saw that Neros. It did make me giggle - I was a bit disappointed that it was all resolved with them promising not to use it. I wanted some kindly person to buy / donate them a tv.

I need to book my flu jab.
Busy work day today (I've been at my desk since 7:30) and had 1 meeting already.
I've put Bake Off on now and I'm on the fence about Matt Lucas. I usually like him but I'm not convinced yet. Hopefully he'll settle in to it. I'll keep watching though - because I love Noel if nothing else!

If anyone here wears glasses, can I ask where you get them from? I need a new set after my eye test last week and trying to work out the most cost effective place - I don't need anything fancy but my lenses generally need to be thinned. I'm wondering about ordering frames online then having the lenses done via the opticians?

pussycatinboots · 23/09/2020 09:19

Fluffy Barnard Castle? or Specsavers?🤣🤣🤣

Crazy Honestly, the cheeky fucker was like a bloody swiss roll and I was frozen!

Nero Yes, I saw that. I suspect it's one in a kitchen and they got up and put the news on while having breakfast every day. Ours used to go off/come back on every morning at 6.30 - then NDNs got a new boiler and it hasn't done it since...🤔🤨

NoWordForFluffy · 23/09/2020 09:23

Firefly, is it orange chocolate with bits of cranberry? I might be able to go for that! I like the fruit chocolate from Cadbury.

OP posts:
NoWordForFluffy · 23/09/2020 09:30

😂😂😂 It is actually Specsavers!

Crazy, I get a certain amount of cash back for opticians through a sort of health insurance at work, so where I get them from depends on the level I get from each employer! I got them from Boots last time (generous allowance), but I won't get any this time for now. I'm using the allowance from this employer to get the eye test, then will see what the allowance is from the next one to get glasses! Though I suppose I could get the eye test money back from work. I should ask! Then I'll buy some online, I think. And then maybe more once my new employer's cover kicks in!

I've attached the veg challenge info. Basically, you can get up to £3.25 in bonus points if you buy enough fruit and veg over a set period.

Crazy I always used Specsavers (long story about my eyes, but basically I wore them from being 4 to mid-twenties, then didn't need them anymore. I always had the lens thinned, they can do that as well). DH gets his from there, and DS had his first pairs from there, but then their kids selection wasn't that great last year so we went to Boots. I liked to be able to try the frames on, as I have quite a small face and a lot of the adult ones looked ridiculous.

DS skipped merrily off into school without even looking back at me, no pushing required. It's actually quite funny how completely unbothered he is, especially compared to some of the other kids who cling to parents for dear life. I console myself it's because I am incredibly boring at the moment.

I had to cancel my flu jab at the weekend, rearranged for 8th October. Called my gp to see if they can fit me in earlier, but their clinics don't start until the end of next month. I want mine ASAP on the off chance I can pass antibodies to baby.

It hasn't rained here, but it's grey and miserable, and actually quite chilly compared to yesterday when it was about 22 degrees!

TheWoollybacksWife · 23/09/2020 10:00

There was a huge thread yesterday on Twitter about scenarios for the JL Christmas advert - including a contribution from JL themselves getting right into the spirit of a very funny thread. Someone tagged Specsavers into the suggestion that they do a Christmas ad - featuring a man in a car with the soundtrack of 'Driving Home for Christmas'. The ad ends as he spots the sign for Barnard Castle with bonus points if the actor is a Dom-Cumm-alike.

DH has designated me the booker of the flu jabs - we want 3 appointments for me, him and DS. I don't mind but he wants me to book the ASAP as there is likely to be a high demand for them. Again perfectly reasonable. However the online booking system currently only goes as far as mid October. We need to go during DS's half term which starts the week after the currently available appointments. From Saturday our appointments should come into view. I said I could go into the pharmacy and book them in person on Saturday and thus hopefully guarantee 3 appointments either consecutively or at the same time plus I can give all the personal medical info at once without the possibility of someone else booking one of "our" slots while I'm dicking about going in and out of the app. That's not quick enough apparently. I need to do it now 🤦🏻‍♀️ THE APPOINTMENTS AREN'T THERE TO BOOK YET.

NoWordForFluffy · 23/09/2020 10:06

I would suggest he takes over that particular task, Woolly! How have you not lost your shit yet?!

I should find that Twitter feed, it sounds ace!

Woolly, they aren't doing the Quality Street at JL this year. Boooooo!

@NoWordForFluffy

Woolly, they aren't doing the Quality Street at JL this year. Boooooo!

Nooooooo 😢😢😢

Re the appointment malarkey I'll just do what I've done for the last 31 years. Get it done but according to the real timeline not one that I magic up from the ether. I'm happy to book them. I've got the time (and the patience) but dear lord it's a trial sometimes.

CrazyBaubles · 23/09/2020 11:15

I've never tried Boots opticians. I was with Spec Savers for a long time but they messed up a prescription years ago, causing quite a few migraines and they refused to acknowledge their mistake for ages so I switched to Vision Express.

It's been raining all morning here. It's very grey and festive cold too.

Oh Woolly I am 😠 on your behalf. Not sure if this will work with your DH - when we have something similar, I just say hand him the phone and tell him to get on with it and wander off. Doesn't really happen anymore....

My next meeting has been cancelled 🥳 so I can slow down a little now, which is good because I sound awful and am still tired.

CrazyBaubles · 23/09/2020 11:18

I was sent this link Woolly - is this the twitter thread?

https://twitter.com/jonathandean_/status/1307760112443035651?s=21

TheWoollybacksWife · 23/09/2020 11:24

That's the one Crazy. Some very bleak scenarios there but some of them made me snort.

Don't get cross on my behalf. I'm the queen of passive aggressive and everyone defers to my organisation skills. So he knows I'm right - he just hasn't admitted it to me yet 😂

pussycatinboots · 23/09/2020 11:38

Crazy My glasses are from Boots. They've always been really good.

Woolly I come wet foot and soggy from Asda. Sorry, they've none - not even the single (which I guess you could have bought 2 of and patchworked into a double)

re: flu jabs, I booked ours with Lloyds online and managed to get 2 consecutive ones - no questions, just email address, as they do the rest during the appointment (they're 15 mins apart) they do tell you to hang around for 15 mins afterwards (to see if you have a reaction) which is odd as the Docs surgery hasn't every time we've had them there 🤔
