2, obvs! Why wouldn't you?!

OP posts:
pussycatinboots · 15/10/2020 11:44

Cheers fluffy I knew you'd understand Xmas Grin
A few more 2s would be handy to convince DH that I really need more fairy lights Wink
Oh, and I realise that I need to hide the tree stand🤦🏻‍♀️, so I will be buying some sparkly paper and wrapping some empty boxes to disguise it this year. 😇

CrazyBaubles · 15/10/2020 12:02

On the basis that everyone needs more lights, I'm all for option 2 as well puss

Also - what about a tree skirt or wicker tree stand?

TheWoollybacksWife · 15/10/2020 12:05

Boots 2. Obviously

Also what about thiss* wicker tree skirt to hide your stand.

Another vote for option 2.

WreckTangled · 15/10/2020 12:12

Always more lights. We have a wicker tree skirt.

pussycatinboots · 15/10/2020 12:53

Yes, I get the wicker tree stand/skirt thingy, but I do let the cats in there sometimes (when the sun is out and it's fairly warm) and I know I'd be left with a chewed/nibbled skirt and bits of wicker everywhere, a substantial vets bill and a very cross looking Matilda.
This is on top of baubles scattered everywhere, bits of tree on the floor and glitter...endless sodding glitter (from the baubles they've attacked) - even in their bed!
😹😹🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

pussycatinboots · 15/10/2020 12:56

Just to demonstrate how much Charlie enjoys his bit of wicker! this was after I lost the battle of the cat crate to take him to the vet and ended up paying for a bloody house call

I'm a 'more is more' kind of girl when it comes to Christmas, and especially lights. Think I've mentioned before I have 1.5x the recommended amount on my tree, love it.

If Charlie loves wicker, would he be fooled by something like this for a trip to the vet?

We've been lucky - the cats have never bothered with the tree apart from occasionally when R-Cat feels he isn't getting the attention due to him, and he'll wait until I'm in the room then eyeball me while deliberately batting the baubles off Hmm

WreckTangled · 15/10/2020 13:45

My cat doesn't care for the tree either, he's far too lazy.

pussycatinboots · 15/10/2020 14:01

Firefly He might be, but I think I'd need a bigger heavy-duty one with reinforced handles he's a hefty 7.5kg, and that's down by a kilo since his last visit and his new diet/exercise regime aren't shatterproof baubles a godsend Xmas Grin
Wreck lucky you😹😹

Xmas Grin at the "more lights , obvs" answers

I will arrange some faux candles (in glass vase or hurricane lamp thingies ) with some of those rice lights ( teeny on a wire , battery operated ) round the base . So even if my two felines take offence they cannot do any real harm.

I bought the Christmas PJs for DS and DD . He has two pairs , non festive She has a fleecey pair and a brushed cotton with tiny animals . Primark finest .

Food Processor arrived , I'm RTFI on setting it up . I was tempted to go for the 4 litre but good job I didn't , it would've been huge .

Our cats don't tend to squish themselves into small spaces but the female likes to sleep on the shelves in the small bedroom ( aka the Junk Room) where I have baskets and random storage .
Maybe they still feel that they need to make a quick getaway ?

Yeah, mine would stick a paw in and drag the vase to the floor = smashed vase, catch bleeding cat, bundle cat in carrier, drop cat at vet, call at a&e...DH can clear up the wreckage. 😻🤦🏻‍♀️

pussycatinboots · 15/10/2020 16:36

...erm, Firefly..."Think I've mentioned before I have 1.5x the recommended amount on my tree, love it." Are there recommended amounts of lights? Oh, shit. I have failed Christmas.🙊

CrazyBaubles · 15/10/2020 16:59

No cats here, but of the 3 dogs DH and I have had together, only one (which is ddog2 who we still have) bothered with tree - and we sorted that out accidentally by buying metal baubles with bells in. He went under the tree once, his bum hit the branches, shook the tree and made the bells chime. Scared him half to death and he hasn't gone near it since 🙄

I am Shock that you had to pay a call out vet fee because your cat wouldn't get in the carrier,l puss, that never occurred to me!

I have less than the recommended amount of lights too, so I've failed Christmas too.

DH is very resistant to buying more Christmas stuff because we have loads don't always use everything but once house stuff is sorted, I'm hoping to buy new lights for the tree and use the ones I already have around the house instead (I have a warm white and a multicoloured set which both go on my tree at the moment, and a bright white set which either goes around the picture rail or the bay window in the front).

I have finished work - was a disaster with IT issues all day. Having a bath with olbas oil in it in the hope it clears my head as I have a headache coming.

pussycatinboots · 15/10/2020 17:04

Crazy I had no option but pay - he broke the sodding carrier and I failed to train him to wear a harness/walk on a lead while he was tiny 😹🤦🏻‍♀️ You can always sneak one more set in. Xmas Wink

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/10/2020 17:19

Ah boots I'lll put the vases on the floor ( big chunky Ikea ones ) , female cat has form for throwing things off the table

I had to catch female cat before she landed on the smashed fruit bowl (that she threw on the floor ) .
She missed a vet trip and I missed A&E by a picometre ....I still have the scar Xmas Shock

NerosFiddle · 15/10/2020 17:31

Fluffy looks like we're going to hit the infamous 12 threads!

There's no such thing as too many lights. If I could get away with it my house would have to come with a health warning to those of a nervous disposition

NoWordForFluffy · 15/10/2020 17:47

New thread here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/Christmas/4051692-Countdown-to-Christmas-2020-Thread-12-the-one-where-all-of-the-GHs-have-finally-arrived?watched=1

It's probably not going to get used til tomorrow though.

NoWordForFluffy · 15/10/2020 17:47

Have we ever got to 12 before?!

OP posts:
NerosFiddle · 15/10/2020 17:58

Fluffy haven't got to it since I've been on the threads. But I think this is only my third year so I'm no expert.

pussycatinboots · 15/10/2020 18:05

You're just so defeatist - thread 14 by Christmas! Xmas Wink

CrazyBaubles · 15/10/2020 20:05

70 I've only ever had one near miss like that which was when Ddog 3 (RIP) ran into the kitchen just after I smashed a glass - I had to grab her as she was jumping around in excitement 🙄
Did once have to put my hand down the throat of my old family dog because he stole a pack of choc biscuits and ate them even though they were melted together and choked. Most terrifying moment for me and he tied to bite my hand as I pulled them out of his throat

I don't remember having 12 threads before and I think I've been here 4 or 5 years now...

CrazyBaubles · 15/10/2020 20:07

As we're all on the new thread I'm going to start closing this down / filling it up now...
