Could we have an advent calendar thread?

I thought it might be nice to have a thread to chat about advent calendars.

My dc are trying to pick between Lego Starwars

Lego Harry Potter

and pokemon

I’m thinking of getting dh either a marshmallow or a more sensible coffee advent calendar.

I really like this Mr Holmes mystery one but can’t think of anyone who’d appreciate it.

I love an advent calendar!
I've order a hand dyed yarn one for myself. Dd is getting the smallest body shop one.
Ds1 - wants the fortnite funko pop one which was available last year, hopefully someone still has stock
Ds2 - wants a roblox one. Can anyone help find one? Might have to get star wars lego instead
Ds3 - maybe playmobil or smiggle

Alternatively I'll buy a fill your own one and buy loads of superzings to fill them with.

NewYorkIvy · 19/09/2020 09:57

Has anyone seen a Roblox or minecraft advent calendar? Both of mine are obsessed

Maxineputyourredshoeson · 19/09/2020 10:19

@AHippoNamedBooBooButt have you tried Zavi? They have lots of the Funko pops ones. I got DD1 the HP one from last year for half price.

I’ve accidentally ordered myself the marshmallow one, I haven’t had an advent calendar for years Grin

Maxineputyourredshoeson · 19/09/2020 10:21

Actually here’s Zavvis link (I spelt it wrong before) they have lots of Playmobile, Lego, friends all sorts really.

I've just ordered the L'Occitane Luxury one (£99). I added on a soap for £9 and there was an offer of a gift set for £12 (worth about £20, I think).

Because this came to over £120, I got free delivery, a free gift set and some free sample sachets. I bought it via Quidco which gave me 9.9% cash back.
So I've spent £121 and got a calendar, two Christmas presents and some soap which is the one I usually use. And I'll get about £12 cash back at some point.

I feel smugly bargainous!

TrickyD · 19/09/2020 13:29

I like the ones that are for the 12 Days of Christmas, rather the 24 of Advent.
The 12 days versions make good Christmas presents, whereas the Advent ones need to be given at the end of November else they are a bit pointless.

thelegohooverer · 19/09/2020 13:48

I like those too Tricky D, and in a way they feel more in keeping with tradition. I think that the 24 days ones can be good for people who find December tough - a little daily pampering to get them through the worst of it.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned as haven’t read through but if your not bothered about knowing the content of the advent calendar check out ELTORIA on YouTube- she mainly does beauty ones but there are a few others thrown in too

Love advent calendars. My oldest (12) has always had Lego alternating between star wrs and city, I find it a struggle to find ones for older boys, this year I saw the marvel funko pop one on offer at zavvi half price so he has that.
My middle child (10,girl) she is always the fussiest and has had playmobil, smiggle, Lego before. This year she is getting the funko pop Harry Potter one.
My youngest daughter will be in eight in Nov the past two years got the lol one which she loved. Not as into lol now but there is an our generation one that looks lovely and I know she would love. It's not out yet though they only started it last year so hoping they do it again this year, though it was around thirty pounds.
I'm getting the nightmare before Christmas funko pop one. Previous years Iv had Yankee candle, jelly belly beans and home made ones.my hubby this year got himself a lynx one in the January sales, think he only bought case it was cheap lol. Previous years he had an electronic one which was good.

maxineputyourredshoeson · 20/09/2020 10:34

I’m not sure if it was on here or somewhere else that someone was looking for these, but I just saw these on Amazon.

Could we have an advent calendar thread?

Adding to an old thread I’ve saved I’m going to get this Thomas one for my 2 year old.

Not sure which one to get for my 3 year old. I’ve seen a Disney cars one but it doesn’t feel very Christmassy so might look at the play mobile one.

LucyCharlotteP · 18/10/2020 09:52

I’ve got my 11 year old DD the revolution advent from Superdrug it’s half price at the moment. I ordered my 4 year old barbie mad dd the barbie one from Amazon. I’ll probs get my oh the brewdog one.

I know this is an old TV read but thank you OP! My DS is 11 and into Sherlock Holmes. This will be perfect!
goose1964 · 18/10/2020 13:51

Only adults here ,I've got the Yankee candle one, DH has a beer one. I'll get DS1 who's living at home again one. Last year he had a mars bar one.

Thehollyandtheirony · 18/10/2020 14:12

I’m getting a Lakrids liquorice one. It has two pieces each day so I might share with DH.

PhoebeFriends · 18/10/2020 14:13

Has anyone had the Whittard hot chocolate advent for 2 people? I am tempted as an early gift for my parents but at 60 pound am dithering - maybe it will be reduced on Black Friday?

FredaFox · 19/10/2020 18:56

Oooh thanks for the idea @Thehollyandtheirony just got a Lakrids for my mum, been looking for one for her, she loves liquorice

reluctantbrit · 19/10/2020 20:25

@PipersOrange

For any tea lovers this brand is great - I have their monthly subscription [[https://birdandblendtea.com/uk_en/catalog/product/view/id/13046/s/tea-advent-calendar/category/496/ tea advent calendar]]
That depends, I found them far too adventures for someone who loves black tea. I was actually quite disappointed from the calendar one year.

We have a white wine one for me, beer for DH and DD has a bath one from Winter in Venice.

We share a fillable one where we get a piece of chocolate.

We had a Sleek make up one last year for DD, it was a bit meh, too many lipsticks.

IDontMindMarmite · 20/10/2020 10:59

Thanks for all the brilliant suggestions, DSis and I just bought my mum a L'Occitane advent calendar for £53 which she'll love.

I've got myself a Mini Reese's Peanut Butter Cup calendar from the supermarket and DH has the Cadbury's one.

I would be tempted to get my sister a cheese one but don't like the look of the one's i've seen in my brief search.

reginaphalangeeee · 20/10/2020 12:13

I’ve got a “Friends” advent calendar and can’t wait to open it! I got my son a marvel pop figure calendar.

UndertheCedartree · 20/10/2020 17:58

I have got a Crayola one for DD(8) which looks pretty good and I think she'll love as she adores stationery. For my Pokemon obsessed DS(13) I got the Pokemon figure one.

Thos is the first year ever I have bought one for myself. It's in an effort to take care of myself as much as I do others. I have got the Nivea Ski lodge and I'm ridiculously excited! I then thoyght I better get my DP one and got him the Monty Bojangles chocolate one.

So I've spent a small fortune on Advent Calendars! Most years I just get the DC a picture Advent Calendar for a few pounds! I think we'll all enjoy our Christmas treat, though Smile

TheLastStarfighter · 20/10/2020 20:46

@Stompythedinosaur did you get the Sherlock Holmes one? What’s it like? I was tempted, but reviews make it sound like it’s essentially just 24 bits of paper. I love the idea though.

@ElfDragon I was just about to buy that musical calendar before I thought to check out this thread. It looks lovely! What is the music quality like? I got a bit carried away thinking it was real vinyl (which would have been awesome!)

2Rebecca · 21/10/2020 13:55

For the past 2 years I've got the nbtea advent calendar nbtea.co.uk/store/en/gifts/265-tea-advent-calendar-5055574319718.html
It doesn't show in many searches because nbtea is largely a 1 woman business but she chooses an interesting array of different teas for the sachets. I like Pact coffee's advent calendar too but was too late to order one this year although they may get more in early November.

2Rebecca · 21/10/2020 14:36

The nbtea might be "too adventurous" for black tea lovers though. A mix of green tea, oolong puer, black tea, white tea and some flavoured teas with flowers etc. Only 1 or 2 I'd add milk to
