Could we have an advent calendar thread?

I thought it might be nice to have a thread to chat about advent calendars.

My dc are trying to pick between Lego Starwars

Lego Harry Potter

and pokemon

I’m thinking of getting dh either a marshmallow or a more sensible coffee advent calendar.

I really like this Mr Holmes mystery one but can’t think of anyone who’d appreciate it.

I was sad last year, because John Lewis didn’t do their gingerbread biscuit advent calendar - but I found an almost identical one on Yumbles, so I have ordered it already.

I got DS the Lego Harry Potter one, but an older version as it looked better IMO, wasn't as impressed with the 2020 version.

this one

I want one for me as well, but not sure what maybe body shop, my mum will probably get a gin one Grin

I got this advent calendar last year, and it was a big hit with everyone.

It was my calendar, but the dc all enjoyed changing the record and playing the tune of the day too.

The Tinc stationary advent calendar has always been really good - dd2 had it for a couple of years, and really loved it.

Does anyone have any ideas for a 16 year old with SN? I think she would like an actual calendar (I mostly do ones I fill myself, but her younger siblings have had actual brand/theme ones a few times, and I think she’d like an actual calendar to open but no idea what!)

Ds wants a Lego one this year, probably the Star Wars one. Not sure what to get for dd2, but I can usually find enough bits and pieces to use. Dd1 is trickier. I usually do: a few nail varnishes, a couple of Christmas books/stories, maybe some hand cream (this didn’t go down too well last year though - don’t think she sees it as ‘fun’ enough!). I have done hair clips before too, but she’s got loads now. What else could I put in for her?

I’ve just remembered - I also read this to dd1 and ds last year, and they really enjoyed following Winston’s adventures throughout advent.

I love the music calendar ElfDragon

I would love a Clarins one. DH isn’t into things like this, mainly because his late mother always treated him as a child right up until she passed away last year.

Jacquie Lawson cards always have an online Advent Calendar. A game or puzzle every day with music and animation. About £3.50 or less if you buy several. Easy to send as a small gift as no postage is involved.

The dc usually get Playmobil advent calendars which have been amazing but we have more Playmobil than we need now!

I have some empty beauty advent calendars so may make one with chocs or similar.

DS is having Traidcraft Chocolate Advent calendar it's £3.99 but is entirely fair trade and sustainable.

I'm umming and aahing about a thomas the tank minis calendar or a Playmobil one but we have a felt Advent calendar too which will need filling so three seems excessive (he'll only just be 4) and a lot of buggering about on a school morning Grin

Hi, great thread thank you for starting it.

Has anyone had a disney junior advent calendar previously please? Ds has asked for it but it seems to be on American amazon only. It's on pre order for $29.99 with delivery at $29.11. I just wondered if it's likely to be released in the UK. Thanks

Any idea if the Smiggle advent calendars are in store? £5 postage is painful.

The Holland & Barratt beauty calendar is out today. I know it was really highly rated last year and sold out quickly. Am going to give it a go

I've got the Playmobil and Lush ones for DD so far. No doubt I'll end up buying a couple more when the other character/toy calendars come out.

I've bought myself the John Lewis beauty and the Soap and Glory calendars so far too.

Best part of December Grin I'm impulsive when it comes to gimmicks like this, I'll end up with about 5 or 6.

I have done a homemade jigsaw calendar like Andylion for a few years now.

Started with a 50 piece jigsaw when DC1 was 3 or 4, then gradually got bigger ones each year, but now I tend to cycle through the same 3 1000 piece jigsaws rather than buy a new one every year - the DC greet them like old friends.

DH and I spend several November evenings putting it together in readiness for advent.

DH is getting himself a Lego one.

I really want a Hotel Chocolate calendar with truffles, not solid chocolate. Which means I'll probably get the sharing one to share with DS.

Thanks for the Brewdog recommendation, have ordered it for DH! Fortnite and Pokemon calendars here for the dc and I’ve ordered a display case for the figures as one of their presents to keep them all tidy!
