Could we have an advent calendar thread?

I thought it might be nice to have a thread to chat about advent calendars.

My dc are trying to pick between Lego Starwars

Lego Harry Potter

and pokemon

I’m thinking of getting dh either a marshmallow or a more sensible coffee advent calendar.

I really like this Mr Holmes mystery one but can’t think of anyone who’d appreciate it.

in home bargains they had a squishees one for 8.99, and some nice candle ones for about 4.99. I'm sure there was a makeup and jewellery one too x

PhantomErik · 07/09/2020 18:25

DD almost 12 would like a make up/nail varnish one (although she barely uses any make up or nail varnish!) Must be cruelty free - any ideas please?

DS10 new lego Harry Potter - he had last years one.

DS8 - a dinosaur/animal toy one but not sure which.

Soubriquet · 07/09/2020 18:31

My kids have got a story book advent calender this year

link

LazyDaisy10 · 07/09/2020 18:54

I've got dd the playmobil Christmas ball one, any ideas for 14 year old ds? Hes not really into grooming/ smellies and probably too grown up for Lego but I'd like to get him something other than a chocolate one

TailEndCharlie · 07/09/2020 19:32

Heard today there wont be an M&S beauty advent calendar this year so that is that idea gone.... anyone know of any other beauty ones? Does John Lewis do one? I cant afford the charlotte tilbury one but would love it...

flower11 · 07/09/2020 20:55

After reading this had a look on Amazon and just ordered the Disney storybook one for ds for £12 , seemed to have good reviews.

Bananaman123 · 08/09/2020 19:44

For teenage girls makeup revolution looks good on the surface but i dont think they are worth the money, better to buy 25 gifts from superdrug when 3 for 2 on makeup and get s5uff they will actually use.

M and s lovers might like Rituals, they are on sale now or loccitane. Ive had both a few times now and love them.

LadyofMisrule · 08/09/2020 20:50

I saw a facebook post where someone had bought 15 bottles of ale and wrapped each of them in a pair of socks. It looked great.

CaptainSpirit · 08/09/2020 21:27

Ooh I love advent calendars, we only started getting them last year!

This year the kids have Playmobil Santa's Workshop and Happyland, as well as a big Disney storybook one that comes out every year (kids will be 3 and nearly 1 come Christmas). I think I'd like a Yankee Candle advent calendar for myself but I'm going to take some ideas from this thread!

Last year DD1 and I shared the Primark Micky Mouse bauble calender (LOVED that one), and she had Playmobil 123 Christmas at the Farm and I had a Chupa Chups Lollipop candles.

Flackattack · 08/09/2020 21:33

Gutted!!! I had the M&S one for the first time last year and it was brilliant!
Got my son the new lego Harry Potter one in a lego deal on John Lewis so had 20% off and playmobil 123 for my Daughter.
Got a men’s next one for my husband last year - some great stuff if they like toiletries - few too many bears items but was £60 Shock

Flackattack · 08/09/2020 21:34

Beard not bears . . . I would have enjoyed the bears

tryingtocatchthewind · 08/09/2020 21:47

It’s another playmobil Xmas in our house. Novelmore (castle) for DS2 who is planning on asking Santa for the castle and DS1 has recently fallen in love with Back to the Future so I’ve pre-ordered the Playmobil Back to the future one.

And lucky old me managed to win the medium Body Shop one whoop, I would never spend that on myself usually

FilthyforFirth · 08/09/2020 21:51

DS 3 has the pirate playmobil one which he will be simply delighted with. He still plays with the Christmas train from his toot toot one a few years ago but literally nothing else, so definitely not a good one.

I am desperate for an actually good, different one each day, cheese one! DH got me the cheese one a few years ago and it was just 4 boring cheeses on repeat. I wasnt impressed!

Going to get a lego one for DH, not sure which one yet

DisneyIsMyHome · 08/09/2020 22:14

DP and I always get each other an advent calendar! He's had electronic ones where you build a radio, beanies, naked marshmallow and lego ones... I've had nail varnish, body shop and fortnum and mason tea lovers calendar! I have no clue what do get him this year Hmm

1000mangoesinabirthdaycake · 09/09/2020 01:05

I'm getting the marshmallow one for me. DH is getting the brewdog one. 2 year old is getting Playmobil 1,2,3. I don't know which one to get for DD who will just be 5. Lego looks a bit too old, Playmobil a bit too similar to her sister. Any suggestions?

InDreamland · 09/09/2020 11:45

If you fancy treating yourself and love beauty products I've just received an email about the Fortnum and Mason advent calendar which is selling for £195 but allegedly has £800 worth of products in it - this calendar contains 14 full-sized products and 16 deluxe samples. Bit steep for me but for someone who loves and spends lots on beauty products would probably think it's fab.

Tiggles · 09/09/2020 13:15

I have got the boys a build your own RC car one this year. Arrived today and box is massive!

The sherlock Holmes one sounds right up my street. Off to Google!

Have you got a link for the car?
Nikori · 09/09/2020 13:27

I got myself the Lindt calendar last year. It was heavenly. I just get chocolate ones for the kids.

Tiggles · 09/09/2020 14:22

@sobriquet this one
www.amazon.co.uk/Revell-Control-01022-Advent-Calendar/dp/B07MTW6VSP/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=revell+rc+car+advent+calendar&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1599657634&sr=8-2

There is a helicopter one too but that gets poor reviews that it doesn't fly. Apparently the car does work at the end.

Soubriquet · 09/09/2020 14:23

Thank you!

Looks awesome. Might be something I could get ds next year as he’s only 5 at the moment.

and I’ve already bought him a storybook one

Figmentofimagination · 09/09/2020 14:37

We've already got the Disney book advent from 2 years ago. Will reuse that one but now have the mr men book advent as well as DS (3) has really enjoyed the Mr Men series over summer.

I will be getting a picture advent from my mum. She still gets me one every year except now she says I have to share with DS 😭

I'm looking at the 12 days of Disney socks from Boots for myself. Last year I had the Disney bauble advent from primark which DS loved hanging on the tree.

DH will be getting a chocolate one as usual. He's not fussed as long as he gets chocolate. Doesn't even need to be expensive, just has to be milky bar or Cadbury's.

Luxplus · 09/09/2020 17:48

@mangoesinabirthdaycake is she in to barbie? My dd is 6 and is getting the barbie

mummymilkfloat · 09/09/2020 19:30

Do the Lego advent calendars ever get reduced? First year of looking at them!

Also any ideas for 2.5yo DS? He had the happyland one last year which was pretty good.

Thank you!

FuzzyPenguin · 09/09/2020 19:37

I have preordered the Pokémon one. Is it really that bad a deal? I didn’t think it as too bad as you get 18 figures and the battle packs cost loads. Maybe a re think then?
