Thanks @sorryiasked for thread title

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Hoverboard type things- any thoughts? I know there was talk a few years ago about them exploding Confused and being dangerous, but was that maybe just one brand? Any recommendations?

Really struggling for a 'wow' present for our 6/7 year old boys. They have scooters and bikes and we have a switch. Aware that (thanks to this thread) our daughter has lots of BIG parcels to open and theirs are tiny.

We have plenty of lego and playmobil (passed down from older cousins etc), trains, castles. Feel pretty stumped.

Lockdownlumpy · 06/09/2020 09:53

I'm going to go left field with a water bottle if anyone needs a budget one eg for kids to take to School.
Mine is from wilko, was less than a fiver. Has that kind of matt powder finish iyswim.
I've had it at least 3 years, still no leaks and this summer when it was 35 degrees (abroad!) it sat in blazing sun for a whole afternoon and my water was still chilled.

Lockdownlumpy · 06/09/2020 09:56

I have the same problem - my DS turns 7 just after xmas and I've no ideas for birthday. He's asked santa for lego but don't want to do that birthday and xmas.

Some kids are here have a hovercart which looks pretty fun, however if I remember correctly it's actually not legal to use a hoverboard anywhere except private land.

Actually, I'd also like to suggest Klean Kanteen for water bottle/flask. They are NOT cheap but pretty indestructible and mine has been going strong for 15 years. I ended up buying them for our kids too, only negative is if you loose one you're gutted because they are so £££.

QVC has a Philosophy deal as their tsv, todays special value, today. Eau de toilette 120 ml, body spritz and a big and a smaller shampoo/bath/shower gel, plus a gift bag. Comes in 3 different fragrances. Just under £50, plus postage today, normally £90.

@Restlessinthenorth I also got the barbie plane and pilot when down to £38 on Amazon last week so worth keeping a lock out on there, although ccc didn’t pick it up for me. But also another vote for the barbie helicopter, I saw it in real life shopping last week and it’s HUGE and just as impressive looking in the packaging as the plane and more budget friendly so could get a doll too? There are some barbies in the 2 for £15 at Argos

ClaraLane · 06/09/2020 09:59
Melissa and Doug Puppets back down to £4.99 :) amzn.to/3i6HpPD
Yesss thank you, just got a set!

Hophop26 · 06/09/2020 10:01

I actually preferred the helicopter, far cooler, and was tempted to return the plane and switch them but can’t bring myself to when the plane was such a good price

I was just about to recommend a KK too, I love mine and it’s definitely indestructible!

I know there has already been chat about TonieBoxes but I didn’t pay any attention because I didn’t think I needed one! DD who will be 6 next month has asked for one for her birthday. I am not sure if she is too old for one now? Any one got any advice please?

My little Christmas bargain is that Very have 4 lovely mugs (waterside hug in a mug), I bought a set for home but when they arrived they’re so cute I’ve ordered another set to split for teacher presents. My plan is to fill with chocolate and a mini Baileys.

Elskerdeg · 06/09/2020 10:03

Thank you for the puppet alert @Adelais

Sneezein3s · 06/09/2020 10:06

Ah I’ve just seen that the Very mugs are back to £20 for 4. I only paid £14 for mine. Still a lovely gift though - they’re really nice to drink from

Elskerdeg · 06/09/2020 10:11

More for a Christmas meal than a Christmas present perhaps, but ALDI have lots of cast iron stuff online today including casserole dishes

Smileatthesmallthings · 06/09/2020 10:12

Does anyone know if the Typo metal bottles are any good? They have plenty in the sale for £6.

woodwaj · 06/09/2020 10:13

@Sneezein3s the tonieboxes are suitable for all ages imo. My ds is 5 and has had his for prob nearly 2 years. We started out with stick man etc and now his fave is the minions one which is a full length audio book of the film. I think its growing with him well

@danuta22 I bought that set for £30 at Debenhams online (excluding the large product) quite a while ago. Obviously everyone has different tastes in perfumes but im just not on a fan of it. If i had to describe it I'd say mild soap?!

FrolickingLemon · 06/09/2020 10:13

@Trumpton Amazon deal of the day - Pop bottles. Very like Chillys. Great reviews. Great price. Black one £13 ish. I've just ordered the zebra one for DD

lucysmam · 06/09/2020 10:17

I agree with LockdownLumpy about the Wilko bottles. We have five of them here & not had a problem with any leaking. Drinks are always kept cold too. Haven't tried a hot drink in them although dd1 says her friend used hers for hot chocolate on the way to school last year.

Sneezein3s · 06/09/2020 10:18

@woodwaj thank you. It was the Minion Tonie that she was looking at and the Toy Story one. She loves the Worst Witch books - it’s a pity they don’t have them.

Can you pause the story etc?

wibdib · 06/09/2020 10:18

@Methenyouplus4 how about something like a GoPro or tough camera? Quite small in size but quite popular at that age if they don’t already have one.

And then one of the big blow up dinosaurs blown up and then wrapped to be a massive parcel under the tree...

ClaraLane · 06/09/2020 10:22

Have you looked at the Yoto player instead? They seem to have far more choice than the Tonie boxes and the cards you can record your own stories onto are much better value IMO.
Methenyouplus4 · 06/09/2020 10:31

wibdib I think our 6 year old would like to wrestle the giant dinosaur, though I would worry it would be played with for 20mins then ignored/popped (in landfill), and we try to avoid presents like that.

They already have the activity watches (can't remember which brand but bought from grandparents last year) which have a camera and they aren't hugely interested in that function.

woodwaj · 06/09/2020 10:31

@Sneezein3s yes you just take it off to pause it. Although I think it starts at the beginning again if you swap tonies inbetween. You are supposed to be able to rewind and fast forward by tipping the box to the sides (there's a short tutorial video available) but I've never mastered it/tried properly. At first i was concerned it would be a bit of a one hit wonder and they'd stop releasing more but they haven't so far. And a big pro for me DS has autism
He is clumsy he breaks EVERYTHING. Its easy for him to use and hes not broke it!!

Mamagotskills · 06/09/2020 10:34

Got £30 off an oodie with OODIE30 still seems crazy expensive but my daughter will love it

dollypartonscoat · 06/09/2020 10:34

I'd recommend SHO bottles. Email them with key worker ID and they'll send you a 50% off code bringing a 500ml bottle down to less than a tenner.

Aldi have their cast iron cookware on special buy today and the plum range is nice. The big pot at £24.99 is a bargain, can't wait to use mine on Xmas day Grin

buckeejit · 06/09/2020 10:35

@Lockdownlumpy I bought 3 of those Wilco chilly bottles last year & was pleased.

Not a particular specific bargain but universal good gift is an electric hot water bottle. I've had them for years & they seem to last a year or 2 at the most but still great, I love them so much. £10-£15 on amazon/eBay
