Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Evening all,
I have a bit of a Secret Santa present quandry. You are all very wise so
I am seeking help from the Hive.

My lovely SiL lives in Oz. I have her for Secret Santa for the second year in a row. I should have said something but was distracted by small babies when the names were drawn.

Anyway, last year we spent over budget on the gift - which was fine - but £70 on postage Blush. We did include presents for the children and some birthday gifts but still. I can’t afford to spend £100 on gift+postage this year.

I have looked on websites for a couple of Australian department stores. I think I can buy presents for the children and have them posted straight to them but I can’t see anything for my DSiL. She is into running triathlons and iron men competitions. When she lived in the UK I bought her gin, a book by Jo Pavey and cycling bits. She likes gin and chocolate too. Does anyone have any ideas of Australian shops that may have suitable presents?

Thank you so much if you’ve read all of this!

Bluewavescrashing · 25/08/2020 19:31

@Dreamingofwalden I'm not familiar with postage costs to Australia currently, but when my brother and SIL lived there for a year I went for light items eg clothing, scarves, jewellery, etc rather than heavy books, toiletries etc.

If anyone is ordering from the entertainer/ELC anyway, they have kinetic sand accessories for £2. Good stocking filler or gift along with a bag of sand. I totally missed the 'styles may vary' when ordering so was confused when I received something different to what's pictured, but my daughter will be pleased with them :)

PrincessLayer · 25/08/2020 19:33

How long should I wait for a Lisa Angel delivery? I ordered on the 3rd August and had an email on the 21st saying it was to be delivered on the 22nd. Tracking info just stops there.

nc600 · 25/08/2020 19:38

@Dreamingofwalden would she enjoy a spa day/meal/sports massage? You could book her in at somewhere local to her.

SaigonSaigon · 25/08/2020 19:53

Thornton's have a summer sale on now 😊

Scanner20 · 25/08/2020 19:58

I've used the cleanser and it was lovely, no reaction. My skin isn't that sensitive though. I've got one for my sister who has sensitive skin so hope it's ok.

I am still waiting too. Ordered 29/7...
@bluewavescrashing That's awesome. It's a £35 delivery fee to my house!

I got the Sticker books from up thread today - they are awesome. Will be keeping my eye out for the others getting reduced!
Can you have it delivered to a pick up location? (Matalan and others) I only realised you could do this recently. Much cheaper.

SecretDancer · 25/08/2020 20:06

There's a 20% off flash sale at Holland & Barrett with code FLASH20 until midnight
Works on the penny sale too if anyone wants to give vitamins as gifts Grin

@steggyandrex

I bought my daughter a switch last Christmas (she was 10). Although it's been played fairly frequently throughout the year she can go a week or two without touching it. Sometimes we play 2 player games together, sometimes she'll play by her herself or online with her friends.
There are lots of different games available, I've been really impressed with it.

Bluewavescrashing · 25/08/2020 20:21

Dd10 and DS7 are having switch lites for their autumn/winter birthdays. From Granny 😊 we have an xbox, wii and ps3 so they have various 'big' consoles (although they don't use them much at all), no phones or tablets but they do like PC games eg the zoo building one.

Idea is that they can use the switch lites as portable consoles to keep them entertained. I chose them as they seem more up to date than the DS lite for example. They love Mario kart on wii and I think will love animal Crossing.

@Dreamingofwalden Dan Murphys and BWS (beers wines spirits) are big alcohol chains that should do a decent line in gin. Not sure how rare/small batch they'll go but worth checking out as a starting point. You could look at glassware for the gin too?

I agree that spending that kind of money on postage is insane. Have you looked at surface mail if it goes now? Not sure what impact covid might have but worth checking out of that means shopping here is a possibility. To be honest though, if you can get your brother on board with doing the wrapping ordering direct from Aus makes sense.

I'll keep thinking on places to order gin from. In the meantime, would she be into toiletries (Aesop) or night wear (Peter Alexander, but it's very marmite)?
