Morning. Welcome to our new thread.

We maybe have rain today. I really hope we do! I have no ides when we last had it.

I'm baking with the kids today plus potting some plants on. Exciting. No idea where they'll go, mind you!

Only 2 days left of furlough. Yaaay for the financial side and booooo otherwise! 😂

Haha Fluffy not a crap sister at all. I don't expect you to remember what I am doing at any given moment. It's amazing I remember.

Hi Woolly, I can sing pretty well. I sang at the schools proms at the Albert Hall many years ago. It's the Zoom part I am not as convinced about.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 05/05/2020 07:20

Ha I love that I inspired a discussion about matching kettles and toasters Grin we got a matching set as a wedding present. The toaster is the original but the kettle went up in flames (literally) a few months ago but I managed to get one that still matched.

It is £20 which I feel is quite expensive Mrs but as you can see the fruit and veg is of very high quality and the guy lives round the corner so I am happy to support such a local business.

Sainsburys shop arrives in an hour and only one product not available (wasn't even able to add flour though so that's not available still, have bought a load of baking mixes instead to keep DS happy).

Morning! Another sunny day today! It's good because the greenhouse gets the early morning sun on it, then full sun later on.

Supermarket this morning, then work, then more potting on at lunch time, then work, then watering the allotment! That's my day done then! 😂

That's good going on your shopping, Most. At least you got some form of baking item. 😁

Morning!

why how long are you off work for?

Wreck I think Christmas will be a much quieter affair this year but it may not be a bad thing - having less pressure to fit in everything may end up being quite nice.

puss we have a matching kettle & toaster. Used to have a microwave that matched too but that broke! I don't generally like having things too 'matchy' but we bought them all at the same time on some sort of deal I think

Firefly you absolutely wouldn't want to hear me singing 🙉 I'm enthusiastic but very out of tune Xmas Grin

woolly I hope the new painkillers help. Frozen shoulder sounds awful.
Also, I've been having a look at A Quarter Of. Never heard of them before but intrigued now...

I shouldn't have laughed at your ruined washing fluffy but couldn't help it.

We are struggling to find veg boxes that are worth the money here. Who are you using most? Yours looks lovely.

I'm still sad about the birds. Bloody magpies will be chased away when I see them, I definitely don't like them anymore!

I'm in bed trying to guess the weather. It looks bright but I can hear the wind so I'm guessing it's quite cold out there.

Plan for today: some online training courses for work, walk, Do some admin I've been ignoring, fuss the dog and do something crafty.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 05/05/2020 08:24

Sounds like a busy day fluffy!

It's meant to be cold down our way today crazy and then warm after that :) the veg box is from Good Taste Foods, not sure if they deliver to your area but worth checking :)

I think if things are still limited at Christmas I will go crazy on decorating the house and make it into a proper Christmas grotto :)

FireflyGirl · 05/05/2020 08:55

Sounds like a great idea, most. We had glitter tinsel curtain things like these at work last year, it was like walking into Santa's grotto every time you walked down the corridor! Might get them for the house this year 😁

I can manage the 12 days of Christmas, MrsM, though I love it when it's sung as a round. I'd have to brush up on Carol of the Bells - it's probably the only carol I've never actually sung at church/school. I join in when it's on the radio, but there's a lot of improvisation.

I think enthusiastic is better than tuneful when it comes to Christmas carols, Crazy Grin

We're forecast lovely weather until Thursday, then it cools off over the weekend. Drops to 2 on Sunday night, so still too early for me to plant out, but I have run out of compost for potting on and need grobags for my tomatoes to get them settled in the greenhouse. I'm awaiting BJ's plans on Thursday with baited breath 😉

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 05/05/2020 09:07

Enthusiasm definitely preferred with carols. I can't sing to save my life but go for it with carols :)

We have hot weather until Saturday and then on Sunday it drops about 10 degrees and like you fire we will have a cold night so not moving anything out until that is over.

Forgot to mention that my new hoe arrived yesterday so excited to get down the allotment and test it out :)

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 05/05/2020 10:08

Morning everyone I should get up but can't be bothered.

Crazy I am off till next Monday a whole 7 glorious days off.

I love the idea of putting more decorations on the house at Christmas.

NoWordForFluffy · 05/05/2020 10:31

I walk past a house on my way back from the allotment which still has its outside decorations up. Maybe they should get them turned on!

I love those 'curtains', Firefly. I might get some if it's looking a bit like it'll be a damp squib otherwise.

I think I need to pot some more beans on at lunch time. French ones this time. They're in little pods in a seed tray, so need a bit more space to last another couple of weeks!

I'm putting tomatoes in pots, I think. Though I also need pots. A trip to Wilko may be required.

I can definitely be enthusiastic with carols! Xmas Grin I can make up for lack of tune-holding with that!

BiddyPop · 05/05/2020 11:09

Morning all, back to work after the bank holiday yesterday. Which was very busy in fact, so I didn't get a chance to catch up.

That does look like a lovely selection of fruit and veg Most, we don't really have veg box options here. We don't have matching toaster and kettle either, like Neros we've gone through a few kettles, but the toaster is still the wedding present we got more than 20 years ago (although it is a little damaged at this stage).

Why a morning (or even all day) to do nothing would be well worth it if you have 7 days off!! There is always later.

On the question of a zoom choir for carols, I would always have said I was enthusiastic but off-key (according to my home critics) but we have a workplace choir since last autumn, and I have not been kicked out of that yet! It's a very fun choir, all about participation, but we do some interesting things and I am in the altos (the ones who are lower than sopranos, and usually have the interesting harmonies to do) Grin - so I'm happy to join in enthusiastically on that basis. As long as there are no solos.

I spent a fair amount of time potting on here at the weekend, and sowing some more seeds, including some lettuces for DD. I also had to spend time moving plants around, to make space for her to play football in our pocket hankerchief sized back garden without killing any more baby plants....(although she is in competition with the slugs on that front!! [grr]). Hopefully we can start to use some salad leaves this week.

Thanks for the storage bin comments - I enjoy sewing when I get time, I just haven't had time in recent years. But I am slowly getting better at it. I don't really do clothes - more mending and a few crafty things. And I am finally finding some time to do things Grin yay!!

Doris is really cute Crazy - I wish I could crochet, you can do so much more with it than knitting!!

Hi to everyone I've unintentionally missed!! [waves]
Better get back to some proper work....

NerosFiddle · 05/05/2020 11:56

I haven't a note in my head but I love to belt out oh holy night.

I want to go all out on decks this year. The tackier the better. Must get a wee look online. I tried festive studio last week but they've closed their website.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 05/05/2020 14:17

Oh Holy Night is one of my favourites Nero.

pussycatinboots · 05/05/2020 16:34

Afternoon.
I'm tone deaf so even though I love listening to Carols from Kings, I couldn't hit a right note if I tried Grin
Been to the vets with Charlie this morning. It's an eye infection, so he's got some drops, painkillers and had his (overdue) booster. I sat in the living room all night with him to distract him from rubbing it. I think he got more sleep than me!
Had a nap after lunch and he snuggled up on the bed next to me, so I think I'm forgiven for taking him Smile

NerosFiddle · 05/05/2020 17:05

Why you wouldn't like it after hearing me sing it Grin

Boots, poor wee Charlie. Hopefully you'll get some sleep tonight.

pussycatinboots · 05/05/2020 17:24

Thanks, Neros. He's asleep in the sun upstairs at the mo.

It sounds like we have 2 possible choirs, one that can sing fairly well and one that can murder a tune Grin
I'll put requests in for Once in Royal David's City and O Little Town of Bethlehem please - they're my favourites Grin
And if you want to go "modern/pop" Driving Home for Christmas by Chris Rea

fluffy there was a bit on gardeners world where they were making small compostable pots from loo roll inners and junk mail (much origami involved with those).

Mrsmadevans · 05/05/2020 17:36

Afternoon everyone Grin
Have been to look after Bob & Mum, there was a bit of a panic on because he's had a notice that his car tax hasn't been paid & he had a warning notice for a fine if it isn't paid . I would have done it online for him but his daughter has been there looking for it, not for Bob btw but because she wants to use his car . Which l wasn't very happy about because Mum went up there to keep her safe but there is nothing l can do about it . Mum & Bob are so hopeless regarding their safety and this virus they can't see anything wrong in Bob's Dd going there Hmm
Not just that but she lives with a whole crowd of ppl all coming and going. Ask her to get him a tub of his usual coffee from Sainsburys though & the answer is, well there is no answer just silence Hmm
Seems as if they are just like my family , does nothing and expects everything Hmm
Boot so glad Charlie is ok and has been seen by the vet Flowers hope he gets better very soon l am sure he will Smile
Nero Why another love for o Holy Night here too Smile
The Festive shop is in Cwmbran l think Nero , Was it you Crazy or Most who went there last Christmas ? I seem to recall someone did Smile
Woolly sorry to hear your shoulder is hurting you again Flowers
Hope it feels better very quickly Smile
Most your veg box looks absolutely wonderful l kid you not the veg looks so fresh and healthy, it made me feel better looking at it ! £20 well it's not a fortune is it and l think it's a great investment to eat the food that makes you feel good Smile
Fluffy on Gardeners world they had a young lady who made her own pots out of magazines & newspapers and yog pots , Did you see her?
We love Gardeners World, a little oasis of loveliness Smile
Biddy well done on the potting & the choir! Smile
Fire 'I can manage the 12 days of Christmas, MrsM, though I love it when it's sung as a round.' you are a girl after my own heart l love songs sung on a round sigh sigh Smile

Mrsmadevans · 05/05/2020 17:41

Cross posted with you Boot Smile we think alike re the compostable pot making !
'Driving Home for Christmas by Chris Rea' love it ! one of my faves when he sings
'l take a look at the driver next to me
He's just the same
Just the same .
lt makes me cry , l don't now why, l am a funny one with a nose like a pickled onion Grin

Mrsmadevans · 05/05/2020 17:42

Guess which choir l am aiming for Grin

WreckTangled · 05/05/2020 17:56

I can carry a tune but am not great.

Another boring day ticked off. At least it's going to be nice from tomorrow 22° Saturday then like everyone else cold on Sunday.

Mrsmadevans · 05/05/2020 18:10

Wreck they give us a fab next 3 days m'dear yay!

FireflyGirl · 05/05/2020 18:12

Once in Royal David's City and O Little Town of Bethlehem are my favourites too, boots.

I used to sing DS to sleep with them when he was tiny, and Away in a Manger. When I was brain dead in the early hours, they were the only songs I could remember all the words to. And 'Room on the Broom', randomly??

He was a March baby, so bit random singing carols in the middle of summer Blush

WreckTangled · 05/05/2020 18:13

I'm going to get a disposable bbq for Saturday. DH will no doubt be working until 5/6 so that'll be an easy one I can do for the dc.

I'm so cold I've just got into bed! Think I need an early night once I've put ds to bed.

Had a nice dinner; Birdseye veg burger with roasted tender stem broccoli and goats cheese.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 05/05/2020 18:20

I have been to Festive previously Mrs but not last year :)

My favourite carols are Joy to the World, Hark the Herald Angels and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.

My mini greenhouse fell over in the window and needs repairing and my leeks went everywhere Sad Have repotted them and just hoping for the best. Heavy things in the bottom of the greenhouse now!

Mrsmadevans · 05/05/2020 18:43

lovely tea Wreck sounds as if you are tired lovely Flowers
BBQ sounds a great idea Grin
Fire I used to sing so many songs to my Dd1 , not Dd2 though and l don't know why Grin, 'Sunshine through my window' by Gabrielle' was our song Smile

Mrsmadevans · 05/05/2020 18:47

Most it was probably you Grin the time goes so quickly Grin
Dh had that happen with his Catcus it fell over and kills the three of them the catcus he was devastated . Had them for about 23 years poor thing, me l always hated them but not enough to push them over Grin
