Afternoon.

Here we go again! It feels slightly bonkers setting off again before today is over, but it's tradition, so who am I to argue?!

Thanks for the flowers everyone. I have high hopes for 2020.

But in the meantime, we're keeping busy and getting healthy. That was a big part of us getting the allotment!

It's a full sized plot, PJ. 50ftx50ft (or yards, I can't remember). Bit big for us, really, I don't know what we're going to do with 1/4 of it. Raspberry canes, maybe - something low maintenance. Once we properly start growing I'll hopefully have a better idea of what we can use it for. One of the plots a bit further down has a bit that's meshed over, like for brassicas, but it must be 20ft x 10ft, and tall enough to walk in. That may be a future diy project...

I love the name Alice. It was on my list of girls' names, but then DMIL had a cat called Alice...

I couldn't use my Nana's name - even she hated it. She was named after a maiden aunt. It began with 'H'. Any guesses? (It'll kill some time on a Sunday evening Grin)

Oh, well done Flouncy!! Thought the game would last longer than that! Might be a good name for a cat, I suppose Grin

Think she'd have liked Henrietta better, MrsM.

Gertrude was going to be my next guess. Okay, I'll go for Geraldine like the Vicar of Dibley Grin

Mrsmadevans · 05/01/2020 21:25

Ahh it's a smashing name Fanny one of my faves Smile

Fanny my Mum is known as the dragon because Dad's name was George Grin

FireflyGirl · 05/01/2020 21:28

Cross post Grin Grin

I like that, MrsM

My Nana's sister was called Peggy, so you'd obviously think her given name was Margaret. It was only when my mum tried looking her up for the family tree (she died quite tragically, at 15) and couldn't find her that we found out she was actually called something completely unrelated!

Mrsmadevans · 05/01/2020 21:29

Just watched Dancing on ice, recorded it earlier, can't bear Pipsqueak but liked the show. Millionaire is on now Smile

Firefly , my Mum is a dragon , the kids used to call her that in Tesco where she worked as well Grin

Mrsmadevans · 05/01/2020 21:44

I think a lot of ppl called their dc after relatives years ago hence the same names cropping up Grin
My Dad's family were littered with George, William, Reginald , Walter & Charles for the men. Jack, William , Ivor, Thomas on Mum's side. The women were a varied lot, Susanna, Bessie , Polly , Alice, Annie.
Just watching an Ad for White House farm it looks good .

FireflyGirl · 05/01/2020 21:44

Grin I think they went a lot more for family names, and had a lot more kids!!

I just wonder what names our grandkids/great grandkids will have. I don't think they'll be named after me - mine is very 1980s!! Could come back into Vogue I suppose. Like 'Gary' Grin

Mrsmadevans · 05/01/2020 21:48

Has Gary made a comeback Firefly ? Shock
