Can we have a men’s gifts thread

There are often threads asking for ideas for specific men and I’ve often picked up a good idea from them. I thought it might be useful to have a general one to share ideas of what we’re buying, hits and misses of previous years.
So far...
dh is getting clothes, new belt (sounds dull but he’s very particular and it took me a while to track down the exact one so he’ll appreciate the effort, and his current one is looking worn), a magnetic wristband (so I don’t have to hunt for missing screws) and Bluetooth earphones
Df will be getting sports dvds
Dfil is getting a weatherstick and toffee that you break with a hammer and possibly a wireless bird box or a trip on a steam train/canal boat (still thinking about this)

I’ve had success in previous years with grid it for both men and women, and with thin optics tiny reading glasses. Though it took a bit of convincing to give them a go, both dh and fil love them.

Sugru went down like a lead balloon here though it gets recommended a lot, and I’d quite like some myself.

Just ordered a wallet ninja, that’s the type of thing that DP likes Smile I’m glad I found this thread
I’ve so far got him
Single malt whisky
Slippers
Taylor’s of Bond Street shave cream
Hotel chocolat dark chocolate batons
Diamond sharpener tool for his secateurs
He likes practical stuff and I’m out of ideas Hmm

picklemepopcorn · 29/11/2019 13:23

Looking at some of the lists makes me feel really old! They are things I'd buy my kids, not my DH.

Sadly, DH doesn't like anything he considers overpriced, so that really reduces the field a bit! Thank you for all the ideas- Not for Mr Impossible but for everyone else.

The Spicery and the cheese subscriptions are great, and all the little tool gadgets.

ignatiusjreilly · 29/11/2019 14:36

I bought DH a Nando's chilli sauce set for his birthday that went down well. 5 bottles for £10 in a gift box, ranging from extra mild to the hottest one (Vusa). They have them for sale in the restaurants.

Also got him a Grid It thanks to this thread, which he loved and has used every day in his work bag.

He's also very difficult to buy for and never seems that pleased with gifts, so I'm happy he liked these two.

Popping on as I bought dh this mini Bluetooth speaker for his birthday. Just brought it out to listen to Music in the shower as iPhone speaker is pants & am totally wowed by it. And it's tiny!

Mixed reviews on this model - we've not used it much so far but I like it. Think it's amazing to get such sound out of something tiny. Not sure yet how it's a microphone but there are lots of other tiny speakers about too

Got this for my INCREDIBLY difficult to buy for DH. It's a gallery in Brooklyn that curates a sketchbook library. You buy the sketchbook (I got him the fancy pencil starter kit as well) and they fill it up and it becomes part of the exhibit. People can walk in and look at the books and the money goes towards the project. https://www.sketchbookproject.com

I'm also going to put an IOU to go to Brooklyn and see it one day. Grin

Just bought my brother the lockpick set.

Thanks @RustyParker

Socks for the petrol head in your life. The vw gti ones are my personal favourite. But the others are great too.

WeAreTheWeirdosMister · 02/12/2019 23:06

I was shopping for an Areopress and found;
www.pactcoffee.com/christmas/on-the-go-coffee-gift-set
Its £39 with two bags of coffee and a glass to go cup, which is good as the areopress alone is £30

Getoffmylilo · 02/12/2019 23:10

A pneumatic sealant gun - I was momentarily excited when I thought it was a telescope in the picture but no, it's a sealant gun.

LuisaKelmen · 03/12/2019 15:18

Full body massage for dh.
He'll be over the moon.🙃

Bellasblankexpression · 03/12/2019 20:59

Some great ideas on here!

Here are some of the things I’m ordering or have had success with in the past:
Steak stone (this was a hit a previous year for someone else)
Dash cam
Making up a hamper
Electric toothbrush
A print of our first house together
Wood burner tools
Brandy warmer
Fancy bottle of gin
Flagon of cider
Cashmere mix lounge hoody

BearFoxBear · 03/12/2019 22:22

The Brooklyn art project is @cheesenpickles, thank you so much! DH has been saying that he needs to start drawing again, goes to Brooklyn with work, and will love this Smile

Excitedforxmas · 03/12/2019 22:53

Strange request but my Dh would love an air fryer. Anyone any recommendations

Bellasblankexpression · 04/12/2019 15:20

Aldi have one (air fryer) SIL has it and really
Rates it

Swisskit · 04/12/2019 18:35

Things that have been well received/used in the past:

Wildlife camera, with night time function to see what goes on in the garden. Takes stills and video.

CAMRA membership.

Projection alarm clock/outdoor thermometer.

Frame for a vinyl LP, to hang on the wall.

Sprinklemetinsel · 04/12/2019 18:36

@buckeejit that little speaker looks mint! I couldn't find that one, but have ordered a similar for DS23.

I've also ordered a load of stuff which won't arrive before Christmas, namely the snowflake gadget, and the wallet clip.

I might get an ecoegg for DS2. He's been complaining about how expensive laundry liquid is, since he's moved away. Or was it dishwasher powder? Hmm.

CroissantsAtDawn · 04/12/2019 19:53

Some of you buy loads!

DH has a tendency to have ideas and then buy them for himself before Christmas...

And has expensive tastes that I can't stretch to.

So far this year he has
PJs
An iPhone cover with a photo of the DC
A key ring (small and simple as he wants)
Jungle speed

Im planning on getting
Running gloves
Cycling gloves
Beanie hat

Previous hits have been PJs (he wears his until they are literally falling apart), framed photos of the DC for his office, small bag for his bike for keys and phone, cycling gloves and shorts, belt, wallet

buckeejit · 04/12/2019 20:27

Also the grid it organisers are vg. I've got a fire pit for £20 too - if its used a couple of times a year, it will be worth it. think dh & the children will like it

SaveKevin · 05/12/2019 21:59

If you’ve got a few quid to spare the Ooni pizza ovens look amazing.

  • that’s an idea not a recommendation as I don’t have the few quid spare! But they look amazing
Atalune · 05/12/2019 22:17

Dh has binoculars as every time we go away he curses that we don’t have any. I am so pleased I have got him some.
Also has a family photo print desk diary. Some bamboo socks. A jigsaw.

MissMarple0203 · 06/12/2019 21:19

Any ideas for a present for DH from DC? Ideally something that is useful. Thanks

Barbararara · 07/12/2019 18:23

I highly recommend these prank giftboxes for hard-to-buy-for men. The relief that you haven’t bought them the bizarre gadget on the box can help mitigate the failure of the gift you’ve actually bought them Wink
