Can we have a men’s gifts thread

There are often threads asking for ideas for specific men and I’ve often picked up a good idea from them. I thought it might be useful to have a general one to share ideas of what we’re buying, hits and misses of previous years.
So far...
dh is getting clothes, new belt (sounds dull but he’s very particular and it took me a while to track down the exact one so he’ll appreciate the effort, and his current one is looking worn), a magnetic wristband (so I don’t have to hunt for missing screws) and Bluetooth earphones
Df will be getting sports dvds
Dfil is getting a weatherstick and toffee that you break with a hammer and possibly a wireless bird box or a trip on a steam train/canal boat (still thinking about this)

I’ve had success in previous years with grid it for both men and women, and with thin optics tiny reading glasses. Though it took a bit of convincing to give them a go, both dh and fil love them.

Sugru went down like a lead balloon here though it gets recommended a lot, and I’d quite like some myself.

The most successful presents I ever bought DH were a Camembert baker and a contigo cup. They're the only presents he's ever been actually pleased to receive! Both has been very useful and well used.

Has anyone received the Heel tread socks yet?
It’s showing mine aren’t despatched yet but ordered over a week ago.

I’m struggling too! Past hits have been a secrid wallet, a cornerstone razor and monthly subscription (he was surprised by it in the day but now reckons it’s fab!) camelback water bottle for his bike and armani watch.

Any wine buffs?
The Cuisinart Automatic wine opener went down well with our family wine buff along with the current year's Supermarket wine book.

I’ve used heeltread loads of times, so they are legitimate, I think the socks are despatched from somewhere in Europe- Portugal springs to mind.
I accidentally duplicated an order once and their customer service was good, so give them a shout to chase up.

Can anyone recommend a shaving set? He’s decided he’d like to wet shave and use a brush and soap thing that you lather up (old school). Preferably something made in the UK and non plastic!
He was bought this last year and loves it (coffee snob) and uses the aero press.

DH is 'of a certain age', and we were teasing him about the fact that he needs to start taking care of his skin etc. He agreed. So I ordered the Mankind Christmas Box, which arrived today. It was £55 and looks fabulous, although I haven't opened it! The contents are valued at nearly £400, including one product that is £99, which DH would never go and buy, but will definitely enjoy trying.

Just a thought - if it might suit anyone!

Whyisit have a look at Taylor of old Bond Street. They do sets of shaving cream and a brush. You can get them from various places including amazon. The shaving cream lasts a decent amount of time, DP really rates it.

Finally bought DHs presents, he has been very hard to buy for this year. It's his 50th next summer, so saving the big ideas for then. I normally have a theme to his gifts, this year its golf.
His gifts are ;
Tiger woods book
Galvin Green golf top
Galvin green golf cap
Galvin (bloody expensive) green gortex jacket
Titleist pro v limited edition the open golf balls
Lindt chocolate golf balls
Giant lindt ball with chocs
I'm quite pleased with my choices this year and relieved hes sorted.

Thanks for the ideas on this thread I have bought DH the cool towel, which is just the thing for using on his exercise bike. He does get excessively hot. Also for when he has a migraine.
I've also bought him some cushions from the London Transport Museum with a specific print from one of the lines in on it. I appreciate this is niche but he'll love them, he was drooling over them when we went.
I think some kind of chocolate and beer to finish off. It's a relief to have him ticked off the list.

DP is an overgrown emo kid so he has

  • a mug and a key ring that say “I’m emo, but in a Gerard Way”
  • a chopping board that says “Cut my life into pieces, this is my chopping board”

He loves Button Poetry so I bought all of Rudi Francisco’s books.

4 t shirts from Etsy with various horror movie scenes on and a quiz book on his favourite horror series.

A Rob Zombie pop vinyl

And a limited edition vinyl record - but the release date has been pushed back to 30th December!

men are a nightmare to buy for - my male relatives i) keep changing their minds about what they want ii) refuse to make specific requests iii) have near Christmas birthdays (I got dh one of those recycled hose bags for his birthday - they are brilliant). I'm done now though -

dh - trainers, jumper & shirt, a lovely cashmere scarf he will lose in about 10 minutes (from the kids), a couple of albums on vinyl, guitar strings (fuck me they are expensive), DVD box sets of Yes Minister & 'Allo 'Allo, some shower & shaving stuff from Murdock London, might get him some booze

dad - some albums (vinyl), couple of books (a thriller & Mary Beard Rome one), box set of A Touch of Cloth. I make him a couple of fruit cakes too

brother - wine ... he is impossible to buy for - earns more money than the rest of us put together & wants for nothing - I only ever get him consumable stuff.

brother in law - tequila & some Le Creuset mugs (TKMaxx is great for Le Creuset)

My nephew (17) is getting amazon vouchers - all he's interested in is computer games!

This is an amazing thread.

Thanks to you all I’ve bought the Brooklyn sketchbook for a very hard to buy for brother who loves art, and I’m getting socks for my DH with dogs on. Thinking of some of the other things you all have suggested here too.

Think there might be a hair product, but amongst all of the others, it might still be worth it for you.

My DH is soooo hard to buy for because he NEVER asks for anything. Not even a casual; "Oh that's nice!' 😭
However there are a few fail saves.
Suits - he LOVES a new suit!
Jeff Banks shirts.
Cufflinks - one year I bought him a proper cufflinks box bc he has sooo many!
Shoes.
Belt/wallet.
M&M's - every year I hunt around for a 1kg bag of them.
Any kind of gadget with buttons or wires 🤷‍♀️😂
Pamper stuff - the proper manly charcoal ones.
Beard wax.

I try to get creative with his gifts. I find notonthehighstreet.com is a fantastic place to look for inusual/personalised gifts.

@peoplepleaser1 havent read all so might be repeating but while I think on ... do plays bass he just got himself a loop pedal and my friend who plays normal (?) Guitar happened to get one at same time. I dont really know what it is but think it records what you play so you can put different stuff over the top. Bit vague sorry but they were both really happy that they had them.

I had a read through the posts and will offer a few recommendations based upon what I have seen and maybe they will help someone!

Wet shaving: www.shaving-shack.com/parker-55sl-gr-semi-slant-double-edge-razor-graphite.html

I have a collection of DE Razors and this is simply the best!!

Bluetooth Earphones: If they are sports (running esp. or cycling) then www.cyclerepublic.com/aftershokz-trekz-air.html
I use these for running and they are great for the job!

I must say, these are also shockingly good for the price! www.amazon.co.uk/Headphones-TaoTronics-Bluetooth-SoundLiberty-Waterproof-Black/dp/B07P5XQBGF/ref=sr_1_13?keywords=tws&qid=1576181687&sr=8-13&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

Mens bracelt!! pig and hen

fountain Pen: well they can of course cost from v. cheap to thousands .. but a rather nice little stocking filler is the wonderful TWSBI ..www.penheaven.co.uk/pen-brands/twsbi/twsbi-fountain-pens

Wallet: A secrid is great! www.londonluggage.co.uk/collections/miniwallet

..
for reference, I am 49 and would happily receive any/ all of the above!!
