Pinkdaydreams how about a arranging for a massage at home. My elderly mum loves this.

PinkDaydreams · 29/10/2019 11:18

@TwistedAnkle I’ll find out if she’d like a massage, thank you for the idea!

Shitfuckoh · 29/10/2019 11:18

@PinkDaydreams a hamper of selection of tea, biscuits etc? I used to get the task of blanket, slippers etc so I'm not the best with ideas

PinkDaydreams · 29/10/2019 11:25

Unfortunately she can’t eat biscuits etc but the tea is a nice idea. I could do a personalized mug to go with some fancy tea bags too!

I have a couple of Matalan codes which expire at midnight tomorrow.
PM me if you would like them.
One is £10 off £50 and the other £15 off £75

Long time lurker here, I was on the thread last year and got some great ideas.

The personalised ordnance survey maps went down really well with the in-laws, you can choose where they are centred and then choose your own wording/photo for the front.

I’m looking for a smallish wooden garage for an almost 2 year old (happy to do not wooden though) if anyone has any suggestions? The studio one looks quite cute but not sure of the quality.

Thanks everyone for all the time and loveliness here, it’s such a nice thread!

mummymilkfloat · 29/10/2019 12:31

Oh and does anyone remember those biscuit tins from M&S a couple of years ago that you could record your own message on? My grandma still has hers with my daughter saying merry Christmas on it and I was hoping to do an updated version, was it just that year?
Thanks!

Suxurblood2eatuthen · 29/10/2019 12:34

@mummymilkfloat they have some nice wooden garages in the ALDI toy sale, I wanted one but we have a big ugly plastic garage that was a present so we are stuck with it.

ClaraLane · 29/10/2019 12:40

@PinkDaydreams How about a personalised calendar with family photos? Or a photo mug?

IDontDrinkTea · 29/10/2019 12:42

Someone was asking for barbie house recommendations a few pages back... this seems quite bargainous

barbie

mummymilkfloat · 29/10/2019 12:42

@Suxurblood2eatuthen thanks so much. Don’t know why I hadn’t thought of there, it looks great I’m going to order it now! They’ve got some lovely stuff haven’t they

catanddogmake6 · 29/10/2019 12:43

@PinkDaydreams I’ve sent Nan a mini Christmas tree in previous years. Bloom and Wild do one and last year i found a farm that sells them. They are table top size come with battery powered lights and some baubles. I know Nan would never want/ be able to put up a full size tree but that is at least some decoration. Nan was able to do it herself but it’s not complicated for someone else who pops in to sort either. I guess it depends where she lives but would work almost anywhere even in a home.

catanddogmake6 · 29/10/2019 12:46

This is the one I found in Country Living last year and was cheaper. Also sell mistletoe

DillieDoily · 29/10/2019 12:47

3 x Dove Men sets for £14.57 delivered (so less than £5 each and they are about £15 each elsewhere) with metal water bottle, towel and full size toiletries . You have to select the pack of 3

That seems to be a skimming link?

Suxurblood2eatuthen · 29/10/2019 13:28

@mummymilkfloat I know, I'm very resentful of our garage nowGrin I'm glad I helped someone lol

@PinkDaydreams when mil was ill I (we!) gave her a bed jacket - she had a dressing gown that was a long one if she went downstairs but when she suddenly needed to spend lots of time in bed having a cosy bum-length dressing gown meant she could sit in bed to read, watch telly, talk to visitors etc and still stay cosy and feel decent without having lots of the dressing gown ‘skirt’ to deal with getting in the way while in bed.

You can get blankets and cushions with photos printed on - either one big photo or collages of 2 or more. Great either for family photos or places that she loves that can’t get to any more.

If she can’t read, a friend gave her great gran a kindle that was able to read the daily newspaper out to them every day which they loved. They didn’t use it for many other things but despite bad eyesight they were able to get it to do the news and have a book on the go and it made them very happy to have a bit of control and to feel they were reading rating than having to watch TV news.

TheGlaikitRambler · 29/10/2019 13:44

DH has asked for a decent metal detector, any recommendations?

LikeSilver · 29/10/2019 13:45

@Sneezein3s we had the same problem with the official Barbie house, it was a right pain. We got a wooden Kidkraft one which has been great and is the right size for Barbies. We paid just over £100 I think, but you could probably get a secondhand one on fb marketplace or something? Ours is still immaculate after years of play.

Reastie · 29/10/2019 13:51

Theglakit no idea if they still exist but I bought one for dh a couple of years ago from maplin and works great

@LikeSilver thank you - are they the ones in Costco? I don’t mind spending a bit more if it’s going to last and not cause constant distress Grin

Also sorry I can’t remember who posted about the HP books but mine have just arrived and are absolutely gorgeous, my favourite bargain this year. They’re so glossy and beautiful and for me!! I’ve give them to my DD1 to hide from me so I can look at them properly on Christmas Day. Lovely gift for any HP and look much more expensive than £10!!
