@Trumpton I know! I always buy myself some just for eating at this time of year Xmas Grin and have kept the offcuts from neatening up the edges of my dad's cake to eat with a cuppa tomorrow morning.

@lucysmam It would be wrong to start eating marzipan at 7 o’clock in the morning wouldn’t it !

I do like marzipan on the cake, but I'd never eat it 'raw'. Lidl sell bars of it coated in chocolate- sorry, but I really draw the line at that kind of abomination!

Hi Poncetastic people
I'm a lurker on your lovely thread and wanted to let you know Nigel Slaters winter book is on the 99p deal on kindle today. I know its been discussed here. I've bought it and am looking forward to reading it.

Xmas Shock @thenewaveragebear1983 marzipan is amazing! & a treat reserved for the festive season for some unknown reason (in my house, anyway!).

I dropped my friend's cake round this afternoon...her cat tried to climb into the box! & the dogs were very excited to see me. Not sure if that's a good thing tbh Xmas Hmm

I'll finish off my dad's tomorrow evening but dd2 wants to help so I suspect it will feature many plastic figures...

The paperwhites!! I had forgotten about these, I looked up loads of bulbs and vases etc a while back and forgot to buy any of it! Will have to add it to next year's poncetastic Christmas.

Decided it would be a good idea to paint the cloakroom mirror frame , shelf, towel rail and loo roll holder to cover the ancient orange pine . Paint is called Once ! Hmm 3 coats later and 16 hours drying time between coats !
Still it looks better, DH now decided we need a white toilet seat . He has asked , nay begged, me not to paint the existing one !
Am I the only one still poncing ?

I have over the last two weeks demolished two chocolate covered marzipan bars bought in Aldi, probably 2500 calories apiece Xmas Blush

Still a little poncing going on here along with lots of laundry - three DDs who live out of town are descending on me tomorrow evening and I am making up beds for them all.

The tree is trimmed, and I am making a garland for the mantelpiece out of some red ribbon. It will drape down and on it I will hang our little red felt stockings and the grey flannel hearts from the Ikea set I bought in December in the second hand shop. We don't do presents in stockings here, just a few chocolates, with the presents under the tree. I embroidered the DCs' names on their stockings when they were all small.

So many beautiful things, work has been so busy lately I've not had a chance to do anything. Planning a huge day of baking on Christmas eve as DP is working.
I've got caramel brownies, gingerbread, homemade marzipan (provided I can find the ground almonds), stolen (provided I can make the marzipan) and maybe some basic sugar cookies.
I'm also a marzipan hater but family love it so I'll make some and DP can taste test to decide if it's good enough to take with us as a Christmas offering.
We're not in the UK so all baked goods/puddings need to be made.
I might also try one of those puff pastry trees I keep seeing on Facebook as breakfast as I can get frozen puff pastry easily

They're beautiful, Trumpton!

I still need to frame my cross stitch and I have more baking to do on CE. I'm not sure how much yet; as much as I can do, I think! Definitely more mince pies, plus Nigella's muffins and some cookies too. Maybe 2 types. And cheese straws.

We're away at present, so it's all on hold!

Did you buy one today, Trumpton?

Report
Trumpton · 22/12/2019 18:13

Yes we did ! Success !

NO ! it’s damaged in the box !

DH has to do M&S pickup between 8 and 8.30 in the morning so he can exchange it on his way home .

Not a happy bunny !

That's bloody typical, Trumpton. I hope the replacement is more sturdy.
